    Show notes

As we approach SDCC, we interview Voltron Legendary Defender Story Editor Josh Hamilton, the writer of the episode we review: The Belly of the Weblum, and you'll hear the worldwide debut of "Hear Me Roar", a new Voltron-inspired song from Random Gibberish, who will be performing the song at SDCC Comic-Concert!

Josh Hamilton has written more than 8 of the 24 episodes of Voltron Legendary Defender from Seasons 1 and 2. Now, he has additional responsibilities as Story Editor and we talk to him about that, as well as the process that the writers go through to get the episodes from story to screen. You'll love this insight into the making of Voltron Legendary Defender!

Another fantastic interview in this podcast includes the worldwide debut of a clip from "Hear Me Roar", the new Voltron-inspired single from Random Gibberish, a Musical Comedy and Geek Rock Band from San Diego. We talk to keyboardist and lead singer, Matt Sernaker (left, below).

This song will performed for the first time ever at the 8th Annual Comic-Concert at Whiskey Girl in San Diego at the corner of 5th and G streets, at 6 PM PDT on Sunday, July 23rd. (This is a 21 and over ONLY show) If you're at SDCC on Sunday evening, have a blast at this SDCC after party!

The Blade of Marmora Review Jul 12, 2017
    Show notes

Marc and Greg review Voltron Legendary Defender: The Blade of Marmora, the 8th episode from Season 2 on Netflix. Our Voltron Fan Spotlight, Cubbie (aka CB Mako) from Australia, a long-time fan of Voltron AND the Podcast, joins in on the review. We also talk about Voltron books, Playmates Toys Diecast Voltron figures and SDCC.

Cubbie (@cubbieberry), who has long been a fan of Voltron and this podcast, has been involved in Voltron Fan Fiction for quite a long time as well, and dabbles with fan art and cosplay, too!

Also, these were the literary writers festivals where she was part of a panel and discussed fandom and fanfiction:

When we started reviewing The Blade of Marmora, we talked about Trevor Devall, who plays Antok, and that he hosted a podcast called VoicePrint with Trevor Devall and Guests for many years, where he interviews Voice Actors. We had trouble finding it on iTunes, but here is a link to his Facebook Page for the Podcast Group, where if you request to join, maybe you can get Trevor to bring back this podcast:

Trevor hosted an episode with Voltron Force voice actors back in 2011. If you can get the audio, here's a link to the episode:

    Show notes

He's back! Neil Kaplan joins us to review his favorite episode from Voltron Legendary Defender Season 2: Space Mall. As we found out as we talked to Neil, he recently revealed to the world that he is the voice of Ghaul in the video game, Destiny 2. He also goes into detail about several other recent gigs he has had the pleasure of lending his talents to, which are very interesting. Of course, Neil gives us loads of laughter as we step through Space Mall, a fan favorite, and some his own fanboy moments from the episode. Thank you, Neil Kaplan, for joining us and making this such a special podcast for all Voltron fans!

    Show notes

Irene Fernández joins Marc and Greg to review Voltron Legendary Defender Season 2, Episode 5: Eye of the Storm. And Marc and Greg find out that Irene has a lot of real-life experiences that match with what the characters are going through in this episode. After the episode review, Marc and Greg preview episode 100 of the podcast, and let fans know how they can be on it, and win Voltron Swag!

People who have listened to the podcast will remember we interviewed Irene at the Voltron Collective Party at NYCC back in October of 2016. This time, you get to hear Irene clearly, without all the background music playing, and you'll learn she's just full of interesting tidbits that really help in the review of "Eye of the Storm", especially that she's actually lived through hurricanes in her native Puerto Rico. We had a lot of fun going through Coran having the 'slipperies', Pidge learning Altean, Keith and Lance's visit to the pool, and Hunk making Scaultrite cookies.

Here are some screenshots from "Eye of the Storm":

Greening the Cube Review May 28, 2017
    Show notes

Marc and Greg review the 4th episode in the 2nd season of Voltron Legendary Defender on Netflix: Greening the Cube. We are introduced to the Olkari, who help Pidge gain a greater bond with Green Lion, and in a sub-plot, Keith seems to have something on his mind that he hasn't told anyone on the team.

We enjoyed reviewing this episode because it really showcases Pidge, and her unique abilities, and we learn a new power for Green Lion. Keith seems to have his arms folded throughout the entire episode, but we all know what's on his mind. It was nice to see that we are all made of the same cosmic dust, and it harkens to the mission of Voltron, the coming together to defend the universe from evil. Now that the Olkari and Voltron are allies, it will enable Voltron to be better prepared to take on Emperor Zarkon, when the time comes.

Here are some screenshots from the episode:

And here is a doodle of Ryner shared by Co-Executive Producer Lauren Montgomery on her Twitter account:

Doodled a Ryner then used #paintschainer to fill it in. That program is crazy!!!#VoltronLegendaryDefender pic.twitter.com/xkAIOofRDX

Now that you've heard our review, we welcome your thoughts and we'd love to hear your perspective on the episode. Feel free to hit us up on Twitter @LetsVoltron or Facebook. You can also send us an email at letsvoltronpodcast@gmail.com.

Benjamin Kaltenecker (Line Producer) Interview May 19, 2017
    Show notes

In this podcast, Marc and Greg interview Voltron Legendary Defender Line Producer Benjamin Kaltenecker. Benjamin, other than having his last name as the cow character in the second season episode, Space Mall, has a huge responsibility at DreamWorks Animation for making sure every episode of the show is on time and on budget. We learn more about his job and everything that goes into making episodes of Voltron Legendary Defender on Netflix.

Benjamin Kaltenecker has the distinction of graduating from the same University as Greg Tyler, the University of Dayton in Ohio. Small world! Beyond that, we learned so much more in this interview. Did you know you can have a job working on an animated TV show, and not have any skills in art or animation? Benjamin gives us the whole process from Pre-Production, Main Production and Post-Production for how an episode of Voltron Legendary Defender is made, as well as his own personal journey that brought him to where he is now at DreamWorks Animation. You may have to listen to this podcast interview several times before you get it all down. There's so much going on, and literally hundreds of people, that are involved in bringing together this high-quality production.

Oh, and of course, Benjamin tells the story about how he was named after the cow in Space Mall. Kaltenecker has become a fan favorite, and Benjamin even gives us insight into an easter egg you might not have noticed, or if you did, what it comes from. And Benjamin Kaltenecker also had the opportunity to introduce an episode from Voltron84, another offering of pre-selected episodes of the Original Voltron: Defender of the Universe series, from Netflix. The episode he introduces is "Secret of the White Lion", and Benjamin goes into more detail about why that episode was so special for him.

Here's a rare behind-the-scenes look at how Marc was costumed while talking to Benjamin Kaltenecker during the recording of this podcast:

Also in this podcast, Marc and Greg discuss a suggestion that came from one of the fans by email. And there are lots of New Era hat designs available in the Voltron store. There are two new t-shirts mentioned in this podcast. Here are links to those 2 shirts:

    Voltron Manga Style T-Shirt

    Vintage Lion Force T-Shirt

For our next podcast, we get back to reviewing episodes from Season 2 of Voltron Legendary Defender with our review of Episode 4: Greening the Cube!

As always, Thanks for listening! Let's Voltron!!
