On this episode of Let’s Be Blunt, Montel speaks with the Co-Founder and CEO of Jane Technologies Inc. After leaving active duty in 2011 as a U.S. Army veteran and Apache helicopter commander, he turned to cannabis to re-acclimate to civilian life. Because cannabis wasn’t legal at the time where he lived, he was forced to rely on the black market, where he couldn’t be sure about the quality of the cannabis he was buying. The frustration of that experience, coupled with the lack of access to cannabis for his fellow veterans, led him to co-found Jane Technologies with his brother. Iheartjane.com launched in 2017 to provide an e-commerce solution for legal cannabis retailers. Jane's unique offering provides dispensaries and brands with a turnkey e-commerce solution, including real-time POS integration, curated content directly from the brands (the best pictures, descriptions, etc.), and retail and market analytics. Prior to starting Jane, Socrates was an associate at McKinsey & Company. He graduated from the United States Military Academy and earned an MBA in entrepreneurship from MIT.

THE SENTENCE OF MICHAEL THOMPSON Nov 08, 2022

On this episode of Let’s be Blunt, Montel speaks with Haley Elizabeth Anderson and Mary Bailey about the recently released documentary, The Sentence of Michael Thompson. As canna legalization continues across America, so do canna arrests and convictions. Michael Thompson was sentenced to 40-60 years in prison for selling 3lbs of canna, and served a total of 26 years before Governor Whitmer granted him clemency in 2021. An estimated 40,000 people are still incarcerated in the US for canna offenses while canna-business has grown into a billion-dollar US industry. Haley Elizabeth Anderson directed the film along with Kyle Thrash, and Mary Bailey is the Managing Director of The Last Prisoners Project.

FIGHTING FOR REFORM | ATHAR HASEEBULLAH Oct 20, 2022

The removal of cannabis from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act is a proposed legal and administrative change in cannabis law at the federal level that can be undertaken by Congress, The Executive Branch or The United States Attorney General and has been proposed repeatedly since 1972. Schedule I is the most tightly restricted category reserved for drugs that have "no currently accepted medical use”. The scheduling of cannabis is also an issue that needs to be addressed at the state level and often conflicts with cannabis legalization laws, allowing for cannabis possession arrests to continue to occur even in those states where it has been legalized. On this episode of Let’s Be Blunt, Montel speaks wtih the Executive Director of the NV ACLU, Athar Haseebullah. Athar is graduate of Howard University and Howard University School of Law. He spent several years as a litigator for both Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada and the City of New York.

CANNABIS BIOMARKERS | ITZHAK KUREK, PHD Oct 06, 2022

One of the stigmas holding back the acceptance of medical canna, especially within the medical community, is the lack of information in a format they are trained to receive, analyze and utilize it in. On this episode of Let’s Be Blunt, Montel talks with the CEO Cannaformatics, Dr Itzhak Kurek, about how they are working to change that paradigm. Dr Kurek has published 20 peer reviewed scientific papers and holds 13 granted US and international patents cited over 2,000 times. He received his Ph.D. in Plant Sciences from Tel Aviv University and completed his postdoctoral research at the University of California, Davis, and has conducted research at the Technical University of Munich, John Innes Center Norwich, C.N.R.S Bordeaux and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories. Dr Kurek discusses how Cannaformatics is identifying canna biomarkers, and how that information will benefit patients and medical practicioners in the near future.

KevinHarrington, one of the “original” sharks on Shark Tank, lends his business acumen as an uber successul serial entrepreneur to Cannapreneur Partners as a strategic investor and advisor. Cannapreneur Partners plans to build a portfolio of canna companies, starting with Joint Operations dispensaries in MA, with expansion along the east coast.
