The Little Engines That Could Apr 19, 2021

Show notes

Sometimes it feels like combo or nothing! Well, eff that s#!t! Let's harness that sweet, sweet energy in the spot between combos and synergy and ride it. Andy's here to tell us all about why it's good to use a card once, but even better to keep using it without having to go out of your deck's way to make it happen. Andy sheds light on how engines that don't combo, but generate value can be programmed into a deck and how to take note of opportunities to do so. Join us, because we could all use a ride on the little engines with a can-do attitude that'll climb the hill to victory—or at least fun. Be sure to check out the decklists Andy mentions in the episode for some dope examples of building engines. Chulane to Pasture | Alternatives Kadena & Karametra Apr 05, 2021

Show notes

It's like another curse laying on top of the commander landscape. Anyone who has gone too deep has their share of the curse. Chulane is indeed another of the cursed commanders looking for the safety of the pasture, where the commanders too good to be useful go to live in peace. Join us as Kyle and Andy outline what makes Chulane too good to be enjoyed at the commander table. Andy also offers his Kadena morphs list as an alternative that could match some of what makes Chulane so intriguing. Kyle and Andy also suggest Karametra as an alternative and compare lists. Consistency & Complexity | Approaches to Decks Mar 29, 2021

Show notes

Stop worshipping your golden idols—we're looking at you Golos. Kyle's coming down from the mount with some more purported wisdom. Prepare your godless shrines as the boys take a deep dive look at what defines deck consistency in commander. Kyle also drops some theories on how despite the impulse to explore complex strategies, complexity should be considered when trying to build for the level of consistency you want to experience. Kyle and Andy try to apply what they learned by looking at a few listener decks to see if the theories hold up. ------------------- Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/legendarycreature YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/legendarycreaturepodcast Twitter: @legend_creature ------------------- Intro and outro music artists vary each episode, but comes courtesy of the sexy souls of the following artists: Home – https://home96.bandcamp.com/ Protector 101 – https://protector101.bandcamp.com/ Dan Terminus – https://dan-terminus.bandcamp.com/ Silver Richards – https://silverrichards.bandcamp.com/

Does Life Gain Work in EDH | + Liesa Deck Tech Mar 15, 2021

Show notes

We've talked about life gain before, but Kyle's wondering if it actually works in EDH. Join us as Kyle discusses with Andy how life gain differs in other formats and what is needed to make life gain work in EDH. Kyle also sucks Andy into a discussion of the colors for life gain and if we've gotten commanders in the right colors to fully use the colors interested in the strategy. Kyle also drops his tech for Liesa, Shroud of Dusk. 3rd Annual Magical Mispronunciations Mar 08, 2021

Show notes

That's right, we've been podcasting for almost four years and still can't pronounce Magic cards to anyone's satisfaction. So we're here with the linguists to see if we can unscientifically vindicate ourselves and justify our ignorance, apathy, and regional accents. Don't listen to this one if you need real Magic: the Gathering knowledge. There is none to be had. But hey, we all know that's not why you listen to us in the first place. ------------------- Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/legendarycreature YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/legendarycreaturepodcast Twitter: @legend_creature ------------------- Intro and outro music artists vary each episode, but comes courtesy of the sexy souls of the following artists: Home – https://home96.bandcamp.com/ Protector 101 – https://protector101.bandcamp.com/ Dan Terminus – https://dan-terminus.bandcamp.com/ Silver Richards – https://silverrichards.bandcamp.com/

Putting Yarok to Pasture | Alternatives Naban & Yorion Jan 20, 2021

Show notes

Time to come back to the "Putting to Pasture" series. It's Yarok, the Desecrated's turn. Perhaps not as obviously powered, but nevertheless notorious, Yarok invites a reputation. Andy and Kyle explore what may make Yarok an undesirable. Andy offers and wizardly alternative in Naban, Dean of Iteration. Kyle then provides a blink option in Yorion, Sky Nomad.
