Last Word On Sports Media Podcast

The Last Word On Sports Media Podcast is a sports media analysis and commentary show hosted by veteran broadcaster T.J. Rives. It explores the business, television production, legal affairs, personalities, and behind-the-scenes decision-making that shape the American sports media ecosystem.
Broadcasters, public relations executives, and network producers who want to keep up with industry trends, ratings, and network movements along with fans who enjoy analyzing game calls, officiating decisions, camera coverage, broadcast rights, and network programming will enjoy this podcast featuring content beyond just the scores on the field.

    • Coverage of major TV networks (ESPN, NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC) and streaming platforms (Amazon Prime, Netflix), including broadcast booth reviews, ratings breakdowns, and production quality.
    • Off-Field & Media Controversies: Discussions on newsroom conflicts of interest, journalist ethics, legal injunctions, and off-field scandals affecting teams and media figures.
    • Officiating & Rules Analysis: Expert breakdowns of replay decisions, stadium clock discrepancies, and officiating transparency.
    • League & Business Affairs: Coverage of college football realignment, conference politics, player NIL/roster disputes, and financial crises like team or league bankruptcy filings.

T.J. Rives regularly brings on high-profile guests—such as former team executives, public relations strategists, sports media critics, and veteran broadcasters—who provide firsthand insider perspective. Rather than focusing purely on standard game recaps, the show evaluates how stories are reported, who is telling them, and the media dynamics at play. The podcast quickly reacts to emerging, real-time storylines—ranging from viral officiating audio leaks and network power outages to legal disputes—offering sharp analysis while news is actively unfolding.

He’s everywhere! Turn on a game on TV or tune in one on radio and you’re bound to hear Jason Benetti. His career has skyrocketed and with good reason: he’s very good at what he does but when I mentioned that too him he said the reason is the radio department at Homewood Flossmoor High School in suburban Chicago and the radio station at Syracuse University.
The voice of the team he grew up loving, the White Sox, Benetti also works for Fox sports calling major league baseball, college basketball and so much more.
In part one of this thoroughly enjoyable podcast, Benetti touches many bases including his comedic side ( he grew up loving Robin Williams, George Carlin and Saturday Night Live among others, his law degree and expresses his great respect for analysts Steve Stone and Bill Walton.

Chicago Wolves (AHL) Owner Don Levin | Tell Me A Story I Don't Know Mar 21, 2023
    Show notes

Minor league hockey in a major league hockey city. It’s worked for Don Levin, owner of the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. Since he formed the team in 1994 it’s won 5 titles! But Levin loves business claiming this was his dream as a six year old. By his early 20’s he owned a very popular head shop in Chicago that sold rolling papers. Yes, those kind of rolling papers. Levin isn’t into pot but made a fortune combining that with a paper company now the largest in the world!“We bought everything in the store expect rolling papers. I didn’t know what that was for," Levin says on the show. But, with successes comes some losses such as buying a movie company. One of his pictures was “Angel” about a student by day and hooker by night. Let’s say it wasn’t no, Nate’s for an Academy Award and leave it at that. Levin lost money on that venture but he’s extremely proud of his hockey team catered for families by charging much lower prices than NHL teams.
Now in his 70’s, Levin is still very active especially in the suburbs where the Wolves play. He helps people adopt dogs and claims the Wolves have given away several thousand!
