The Supreme Court just can't quit Donald Trump. Interestingly, the Supreme Court does nothing to help Trump's criminal flunkies: Steve Bannon just reported to prison; Peter Navarro is serving a prison term; and Rudy Giuliani was just disbarred in New York and is facing multiple criminal prosecutions. Yet the Supreme Court just bestowed absolute presidential immunity on presidents, unleashing them to commit crimes against the American people with impunity and immunity. In a very real sense, the Court gave Trump a blueprint for totalitarianism.

Glenn reviews the democracy-ending implications of this new Supreme Court ruling. Like Dread Scott and Plessy vs. Ferguson, this new Supreme Court ruling must not be allowed to stand.

The Supreme Court Throws Trump & Other Insurrectionists a Lifeline Jul 04, 2024

In an opinion by Chief Justice John Roberts, the Supreme Court disregards the plain language of a law by which Congress criminalized conduct that "obstructs, influences, or impedes any official proceeding." Roberts and the majority then delivers a gift to Donald Trump and several dozen of his insurrectionists. Importantly, in a dissenting opinion, Justice Amy Coney Barrett, joined by justices Kagan and Sotomayor, call Roberts and the majority out for their flawed analysis, saying it "is like using a hammer to pound in a screw - it looks like it might work, but using it botches the job." She further exposes the majority for "failing to respect the prerogatives" of Congress and the Executive branch. Glenn discusses why this Supreme Court opinion is an inappropriate windfall to Trump and some of his fellow insurrectionists.

Supreme Court Bestows Supreme Immunity on Donald Trump Jul 03, 2024

July 1, 2024, is a dark day in American history. A captured, right-wing Supreme Court granted immunity to Donald Trump for the crimes he committed against the American people - crimes he committed to unlawfully and unconstitutionally retain the power of the presidency after losing the 2020 election.

Now, the American people are left to be the jurors - and we will declare Trump guilty at the ballot box come Nov. 5.

Glenn reviews the Supreme Court decision, a powerful dissent by Justice Sotomayor joined by justices Karan and Jackson, and talks about the silver lining that is STILL out there.

Judge Aileen Cannon Announces She'll Revisit a Ruling by Another Judge that was Devastating to Trump Jul 02, 2024

Trump-appointed judge Aileen Cannon is unfit to preside over Donald Trump's criminal case in Florida. In a new piece for MSNBC - Glenn explains some of the data points that prove Judge Cannon's "impartiality might reasonably be questioned," such that the federal law mandates that she "shall disqualify herself form the case."

As if to prove the point, The New York Times has reported that Judge Cannon "will revisit key ruling finding in Trump classified documents case."

Special Counsel must file and litigate a motion to remove Cannon from presiding over Trump's Florida prosecution.

The Supreme Court REFUSES to Delay the Start of Steve Bannon's Prison Term Jul 01, 2024

Another of Donald Trump's criminal flunkies - Steve Bannon - is now headed to prison on July 1st, given the Supreme Court has rejected his request to delay the commencement of his 4-month prison term. Bannon was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress for defying congressional subpoenas to testify and to provide documents about the January 6th attack on the US Capitol which was designed to keep Trump in power after he lost the 2020 presidential election. Another criminal Trump flunky, Peter Navarro, was also ordered to serve a 4-month prison term for committing the same crimes Bannon committed. But this may end up being the first of multiple prison terms for Bannon. He is pending trial in New York State court for defrauding Trump supporters out of their money with a fictitious "We Build The Wall" foundation. Recall, Bannon was indicted federally for the same fraudulent scheme, but Trump pardoned him right before he left office. .

Judge Merchan Modifies Trump's New York Gag Order Jun 28, 2024

Judge Jaun Merchan modified the gag order he had placed on Donald Trump. The gag order no longer prohibits Trump from talking about witnesses and jurors in his case. However, it remains in effect to protect court staff, prosecutors and their staff, and their respective family members. Needless to say, it's concerning that the witnesses and jurors are now unprotected from Trump's reckless, dangerous, and often violence-inducing rhetoric. However, there is a silver lining. And it will come on July 11th when Judge Merchan sentences Trump for his 34 felony convictions for falsifying business records to try to steal the 2016 presidential election.

Judge Aileen Cannon Insists on Litigating Frivolous Motions, Delaying Trump's Trial Jun 27, 2024

Judge Aileen Cannon continues to give defendant Donald Trump - the very person who gave her her lifetime appointment as a federal judge - the delay he so covets. She continues to litigate frivolous motions that are forever being filed by Trump's attorneys, in an apparent attempt to delay Trump's federal prosecution in Florida as long as she can.

Glenn discusses how judges nearly always set trial dates as a way to set intermediate deadlines for motions to be litigated and resolved: no trial date, no intermediate deadlines. It is becoming painfully obvious that delay IS the point of Judge Cannon's refusal to set a trial date.

Glenn also discusses the fact that the normal practice in federal criminal cases is for judges to quickly and summarily deny motions without hearings when the defense can't meet its "burden of production" - the required showing that there is evidence and law supporting the motion they are filing.

Judge Cannon continues to prove that her "impartiality might reasonably be questioned" - which is the legal standard for a judge being required to leave the case - in favor of having a fair, independent, and impartial judge to preside over the case. Glenn takes on the seemingly unending stream of Cannon's shenanigans.

Trump says Comedian Joan Rivers Voted for Him in 2016: Problem is She Died in 2014 Jun 26, 2024

During an interview with Donald Trump for his biography called "Apprentice in Wonderland", he stated that comedian Joan Rivers voted for him in 2016, because "that's what she said". The problem is, Ms. Rivers passed away in 2014. Donald Trump is a liar, a conman, a grifter, a rapist, and a cheat. According to Glenn, given the number of voters (including self-described Trump supporters) who have peeled away from Trump since January 6th, 2021, President Joe Biden's margin of victory in the upcoming election may just end up being twice what it was in 2020.

Judge Cannon Disregards Advice from Other Federal Judges NOT to Preside Over Trump's Florida Case Jun 24, 2024

Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Canon held an all-day hearing on a largely frivolous issue raised by Donald Trump's attorneys. At the end of the hearing, instead of ruling on the motion, Judge Cannon ordered supplemental briefs to be filed, injecting further unnecessary delay into the case. And Cannon has steadfastly refused to set a trial date. On the eve of Friday's motions, The New York Times published a blockbuster revelation, "Judge in Trump Documents Case Rejected Suggestions to Step Aside." Glenn discusses the implications of Cannon's refusal to recuse herself from Trump's case and the ongoing concern regarding her lack of impartiality.
