The Assassination Attempt of Donald Trump Jul 17, 2024

Political violence is never the answer to our nation's problems, disagreements, and divisions. Political violence was wrong when Donald Trump perpetrated it on January 6th, and it was wrong when it was perpetrated against him at his rally in Pennsylvania. There is no answer yet as to why a registered Republican decided to arm himself with an assault rifle and do what he did. But one thing is clear - if we don't do better, then things will only get worse. Then, Glenn talks about Rudy Giuliani. Within days of losing a massive money judgment for lying about and defaming Georgia state election workers Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman, Rudy Giuliani tried to hold off having his assets seized by filing for bankruptcy. However, he couldn't even do bankruptcy right. The presiding judge has dismissed his bankruptcy case, stating, "the lack of financial transparency (by Giuliani) is particularly troubling given concerns that Mr. Giuliani has engaged in self-dealing and that he has potential conflicts of interest that would hamper the administration of his bankruptcy case". With the dismissal of Rudy's bankruptcy case, Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman can now use all legal mechanisms to collect the $148 million he owes them, including seizing his assets.

The New York Times Editorial Board has published a piece detailing why Donald Trump is unfit to retake the reigns of federal power and why he poses an extreme danger to American Democracy. The piece is broken down into five parts: "Moral Fitness Matters", "Principled Leadership Matters", "Character Matters", "A President's Words Matters," and "The Rule of Law Matters". Or, put another way Justice Matters. Glenn does a deep dive into this new opinion piece and discusses the opportunity the American people have to serve as the final jury that will sit in judgment of Donald Trump.

Criminal Investigations and Possible Impeachment Sought for Abuses by Justices Thomas and Alito. Jul 15, 2024

After long-enduring obvious corruption, conflicts, abuses and potential crimes by Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, members of Congress are finally trying to do something about it. Senators Whitehouse and Wyden have formally requested that Attorney General Merrick Garland appoint a special counsel to criminally investigate Thomas and Alito for potentially violating federal financial disclosure laws, tax laws, false statements laws, etc.

In another breaking legal development, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has introduced articles of impeachment for Thomas and Alito for their alleged crimes and abuses.

Glenn reviews the new reporting on these and other related issues and argues that these actions are an important first step to address the rot at the top of the Judicial branch of government

In new reporting by Hugo Lowell of the Guardian, it turns out, "Trump plans to block Hearings in January 6 case before 2024 election." It's no surprise that Donald Trump desperately wants to stop the dozens of Republican witnesses who testified about his crimes to the DC grand jury - from testifying publicly at the hearings Judge Tanya Chutkan will hold now that the Supreme Court is returning the case to her. Glenn reviews why Trump and his lawyers will fail in their attempts to stop these hearings from being conducted prior to the November election.

Cannon Sits on Jack Smith's Motions While Granting Trump's Motion in Hours Jul 11, 2024

Trump-appointed judge Aileen Cannon continues to wear her Trump favoritism on her sleeve. A number of motions filed by Jack Smith have languished, remaining unresolved for months. As but one example, back in May, Smith filed a motion asking Judge Cannon to modify Trump's conditions of release to stop him from lying about and endangering FBI agents. Cannon has sat on that motion. However, Trump filed a motion asking Cannon to stay or pause a number of deadlines in his Florida case while he briefs-up issues regarding presidential immunity. Judge Cannon acted on Trump's motion IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS, ruling in his favor and giving him precisely what he wants. As has long been the case, Cannon's "impartiality might reasonably be questioned," which is the federal legal standard requiring her disqualification from the case. But, of course, she will ignore the federal law and continue to preside over the prosecution of the very defendant who gave her her lifetime appointment to the federal bench. Proving, once again, the fix is in.

Supreme Court Gives Trump a Blueprint for Dictatorship Jul 10, 2024

The Supreme Court didn't JUST rule that presidents have absolute presidential immunity. They actually ruled that presidents have absolute presidential immunity PLUS.

Constitutional scholars left, right, and center are excoriating the new Supreme Court opinion that 1. contradicts the expressed language of our constitution, 2. actually repeals portions of our constitution, and, in essence, 3. declares the constitution is unconstitutional. Yes, that is illogical, but that is precisely what Chief Justice Roberts and the radical right-wing block of justices did in Trump vs. United States.

This ruling gives Donald Trump a blueprint to convert America into a banana republic. And Donald Trump is exactly the kind of day-one-dictator who will do it. This ruling not only excuses lawless conduct by a corrupt president, it endorses such conduct, and thereby encourages future presidents to act lawlessly and to direct others to to the same then simply exercise his core constitutional power of the presidential pardon to pardon all of his criminal associates who carry out his unlawful commands. This is not just absolute presidential power. It is absolute presidential power PLUS. And like Dred Scott, Korematsu, and Plessy vs. Ferguson, this opinion must not stand.

Trump Endorses Military Tribunal Prosecution for Liz Cheney Jul 09, 2024

Just days after his right-wing Supreme Court justices gave him presidential immunity, Donald Trump has endorsed a military tribunal prosecution for former Congresswoman Liz Cheney. Presumably, the Supreme Court will have Trump's back on that crime as well. Now that the Supreme Court has converted the lawless into the lawful, and given that Trump made clear he will use military tribunals to prosecute his enemies (by falsely labeling them enemies of American democracy), how should President Joe Biden respond and what should he do with the new powers the Supreme Court just created and bestowed on him and all future American presidents?

The Supreme Court ENCOURAGES Presidential Crime by Granting Trump Immunity Jul 08, 2024

By granting Donald Trump immunity for the crimes he committed against the American people; the radical, right-wing block of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, actually encourages presidents to commit crimes.

Eventually, this Supreme Court opinion will go the way of Dred Scott vs. Sanford, and Plessy vs. Ferguson - it will be reversed and will go down in American history as an opinion that sought to destroy honest and honorable governing, and accountability for crimes a president commits against the American people.

But given that the opinion is in effect at the moment, President Joe Biden needs to exercise the powers the Supreme Court has given him to hold treasonous actors accountable and protect American democracy from the likes of Donald Trump and those who support his efforts to destroy American democracy.
