Ep. 29 - The Matrix Revolutions (2003) Jan 24, 2019

Show notes

Chris and Owen jack into the Matrix yet again to build off the progress they made after patching up Reloaded. Can they successfully save the final chapter of this saga, or was it always too much to expect for a 3rd Matrix film to be any good? The Matrix Revolutions is written and directed by the Wachowskis and stars Carrie Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving, and a blinded Keanu Reeves.

Ep. 28 - The Matrix Reloaded (2003) Jan 09, 2019

Show notes

Chris and Owen imagine a world in which the Wachowskis had chosen to focus on innovative action and efficient plotting for their Matrix sequel rather than doubling down on the pseudo-philosophical wankery and bespectacled navel-gazing.

The Matrix Reloaded is written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers and stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and a whole bunch of CG Hugo Weavings.

Ep. 27 - Star Trek (2009) Dec 27, 2018

Show notes

Having thoroughly expressed their disdain for the latest Star Wars movies, Chris and Owen turn to their other true love: expressing their disdain for the latest Star Trek movies. At least this one is fun to watch.

Star Trek is directed by JJ Abrams, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, but not William Shatner, and boy that must sting, eh Bill?

Ep. 26 - Transformers (2007) Dec 12, 2018

Show notes

For a film adaptation about giant robots smashing into one another, there sure are a lot of boring humans in this movie. Take a trip down nostalgia lane as Chris and Owen attempt to deliver a Transformers script that doesn't get bogged down in military fetishism and a cynical disregard for meaningful characterization, while keeping the explosions and silly robot backstories.

Transformers is directed by Michael Bay, written by our nemeses Roberto Orzi and Alex Kurtzman, and stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, and a bunch of SFX shots Michael Bay recycled from his earlier film "The Island."

Ep. 25 - Batman v Superman (2016) Nov 29, 2018

Show notes

Chris and Owen draw their battle lines: is Batman v Superman another tragedy for the DCEU, or is it the most underrated masterpiece in modern cinema? Standing firmly together on the "tragedy" side of the line, perhaps they can work together to save Superman and Batman yet again.

Batman v Superman is directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer, and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, and Jesse Eisenberg doing his twitchout-on-screen thing yet again.

Ep. 24 - Godzilla (2014) Oct 17, 2018

Show notes

Can a little narrative revisionism save the classic and beloved giant monster from the palsy of “gritty reboot syndrome,” or was the American effort to snatch Godzilla from the hands of his Japanese fathers doomed to suck from the start? Tune in to find out!

Godzilla is directed by Gareth Edwards, written by Max Borenstein, and stars Brian Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, and an expressionless projection of American militarism named Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Ep. 23 - Last Action Hero (1993) Oct 02, 2018

Show notes

Continuing in their trend of reviewing movies that suffered such epic box office failures that the validity of an entire sub-genre was called into question, Chris and Owen offer their hot take on the last great Arnold film. Does this esoteric childhood favorite deserve the hate, or is it okay to enjoy a moderately awesome action movie with the poor sense to release the same weekend as Jurassic Park?

The Last Action Hero is directed by John McTiernan, written by Zak Penn, Adam Leff, Shane Black, and David Arnott, and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Austin O'Brien, and Charles Dance, elevating the hell out of this movie.

Ep. 22 - Solo Impressions Jul 24, 2018

Show notes

Solo finally came out in Japan, so Chris and Owen sit down to discuss their impressions of the much maligned spin off which has been touted as nothing less than the death of Star Wars. Undeserved anti-hype, or more or less on the nose? Tune in to find out!

PS: Astute listeners may notice the sounds of a Japanese mega-storm raging in the background of Chris' audio.
