Ep. 788 Enrica Fontana | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon Feb 14, 2022
    Show notes

Episode 788 Marc Millon interviews Enrica Fontana from Spagnol Winery, in this episode of Italian Food & Wine with Marc Millon on the Italian Wine Podcast.

    About the winery:

It all began with the cultivation of vines undertaken by great-grandfather Serafino during the early 1900s.

Our history continues with the production and marketing of bulk wine until 1986, the year during which we began bottling wines in our cantina, thereby covering all phases of wine making from the production to the sale of bottles, thereby completely the supply chain.

The vineyards have always been managed and worked by our nuclear family: father Orazio, mother Loreta and their sons, Stefano, Marco, Alberto and Mattia.

More specifically, Orazio and Alberto, together with a team of agronomists, supervise the agricultural activities, all done manually, from the management of the plants to the harvest; while Stefano and Marco, as oenologists, deal with the wine-making process of the company wine cellars.

Over time, the “famiglia” has grown to embrace the arrival of talented collaborators, who work in the vineyards (7 individuals), and in our offices (4 individuals).

Our business is more than just a trade,

it’s our passion and our family tradition.

    Show description:

We hear that "Millennials aren't buying wine" but Diva Giles is here to tell you that's not the full story. As a 26 year old owner of a successful, award-winning wine bar, Diva brings her insights to the question of how to build a better relationship with younger drinkers. From non-wanky language to meaningful storytelling to getting over our own BS, here are the lessons we need to hear to show love to the next generation. A definite must for your wine listening this week!

    Speaker Bio:

DIva Giles is the co-owner of Beau Wine Bar, known in Auckland for its robust wine list and more-ish food, but most importantly, for being a hub for wine lovers from 18 to 80. With an approach that breaks the common rules of wine, she and her business partner Logan Birch have definite thoughts on how the wine world markets to and communicates with the younger audience. And if their success is any indicator, they're doing something we all could learn from...

Ep. 785 Elena Fucci Pt. 1 | On The Road With Stevie Kim Feb 11, 2022
    Show notes

Welcome to episode 785, another on the Road Edition With Stevie Kim, Join her as she visits Elena Fucci in Basilicata

    Learn more about Elena Fucci:

“Our winery was founded in 2000 at a time when our family was discussing whether to sell the beautiful vineyards surrounding the house where I grew up.

The vineyards were purchased in the 60’s by my grandfather Generoso, who chose to buy the highest part of the vineyard in Contrada Solagna of Titolo at the foot of Mount Vulture (an extinct volcano). Over the years that followed my grandfather and great-grandfather took care of the vineyards, selling the grapes after harvest and keeping just enough to produce some wine for personal consumption.

The winery came to life with the 2000 vintage concurrently with my studies at the Faculty of Viticulture and Enology. Initially, we were assisted by an external consultant, while in 2004 all facets of the winery were taken over in first person. The choice from the beginning, without any regret, was to stake everything on a single label, the "TITOLO" envisioning it as a high quality, first class wine or "cru". A unique wine for objective reasons related to the yields of the vineyards and the quality of the vines, considering their age. A unique wine to best represent the characteristics of the Aglianico grape and the territory of the Vulture, where the particular mix of microclimate and terroir transmits to our wine one of the best and most unique expressions of this fabulous area that is Contrada Solagna del Titolo."...

Ep. 782 Multisensory Expanding The Wine Communication Toolkit | Wine2Wine 2021 Recorded Sessions Feb 09, 2022
    Show notes

Episode 782 – Multisensory: expanding the wine communication toolkit - Sarah Heller MW and Margareth Henriquez. These sessions were recorded through Swapcard at the Wine2Wine 2021 Business Forum and are being replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast!

Wine2Wine is an international wine business forum, and has been held annually in Verona, Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and a diverse variety of wine professionals eager to develop and grow their wine business worldwide.

    About today’s session:

Verbal communication about wine, broadly treated like the default, has its limits, potentially hindering our ability to reach new customers and capture their imaginations, particularly as the market for wine expands into new regions and cultural contexts. Non-verbal communication about wine, while not yet mainstream, is being employed by different players within the wine industry to intriguing effect. The session will feature two major examples of non-verbal sensory content related to wine, exploring lessons learned and impacts on the relevant wines/brands.

    More about Sarah Heller MW:

Sarah Heller MW is a wine expert, visual artist and television host based in Hong Kong. At 31, she is Asia-Pacific’s youngest Master of Wine. Sarah created Radix, a branded platform that endeavours to engage a new generation of wine lovers in Asia and beyond through projects. Aside from all this, she is a partner and buyer for the Almásy Collection of wines; brand ambassador and design collaborator for Lucaris Crystal; she is a Vinitaly International Academy faculty member; the wine editor for Asia Tatler; chairman of WINE100, China’s largest wine competition; and a host of the television series Wine Masters. Independently, she is the creator of an art series called Visual Tasting Notes, as well as a series of educational videos that has reached nearly 5 million students. She is frequently invited to speak on topics such as the Asian wine market as well as wine marketing and E-commerce. In 2019, she was made a member of the judging committee of the IWSC
