    About today’s Host:

“In 2013, a wine guru walked into my life, and I set off on a path of demystifying the wines of Europe–a section of stores and wine lists that I previously avoided. This path rewarded me with an understanding of what wine really is…a centerpiece of gatherings with families and friends; something to facilitate celebration. When visiting family wineries in Europe, I found the experience to be like an invitation to a family gathering, and I admired the passion of the winemakers for their craft. I launched Wide Roots to bring the essence of this experience to more wine drinkers, hoping to help them in unlocking this world much the same way that I did for myself. I am certified by Vinitaly International Academy as an Italian Wine Ambassador. I am also the subject of Wine Hunter, a documentary that follows my journey launching Wide Roots and my travels through the vineyards of Italy.”

Ep. 1741 McKenna Cassidy Interviews Luigi Di Majo Norante | The Next Generation Jan 14, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 1741 in which host McKenna Cassidy interviews Luigi di Majo Norante this week on The Next Generation where young Italian wine people 30 and under shake up the wine scene.

    More about today’s winery:

Di Majo Norante has been making wine from grapes ever since 19th century, as is evidenced by the old cellars underneath the square and in the old family building at Campomarino. Commitment to grape growing was inherited first of all by Luigi and then by Alessio Di Majo and continues today alongside research and experimentation. Di Majo Norante produces its own wines from grapes grown in the 123 hectare vineyard of the ancient fief of Marquises Norante di Santa Cristina. Di Majo Norante wine-making philosophy is consistent with a traditional approach to grape growing and wine production, centred on preserving all the characteristics of Mediterranean wine-making.

Ep. 1739 Italian Wine Ambassadors VIA Gita Scolastica In Marche | On The Road With Stevie Kim Jan 13, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to Episode 1739 on another episode of “On The Road Edition”, hosted by Stevie Kim. In Today’s episode, Stevie sits down with Italian Wine Ambassadors Elena Barattini, Erin DeMara, Juliana Colangelo and Fanny Breuil to recap the Gita Scolastica - VIA deep dive into the Marche wine region held last year, November 15th to 19th.

    More about Italian Wine Podcast

Listen to Elena Barattini talking about the warm welcome we got at Istituto Marchigiano Tutela Vini located in Jesi, Ancona, where its President Michele Bernetti and director Alberto Mazzoni held a masterclass regarding the 16 DOC and 4 DOCG of the area. This was followed by a quick tour of the city with aperitivo downtown, ending up having dinner based on white truffle, a fine and precious delicacy from the area, prepared by chef Elis Marchetti and his staff at the Istituto.

Day 2 was dedicated to Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi right bank and Verdicchio di Matelica, both age-worthy white wines – don’t miss Erin DeMara’s complete summary.

Juliana Colangelo sums up day 3 that was packed: wine tasting in the morning, digging deep into Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi left bank, where she found more consistency in the wines and more fruit concentration compared to the ones of the right bank of the Esino river; delicious lunch by Max Santoni cuoco at Sartarelli; more tastings in the afternoon dedicated to Lacrima di Morro d’Alba wines and producers at Filodivino, where dinner was served at the end of the tasting.

Last but not least, on day 4 we drove to Conero DOCG area to get familiar with Montepulciano driven red wines from the region and also with the upcoming new denomination all about Rosè wines. After a typical lunch, a tour guide took us sightseeing the beautiful historic city of Ancona. But let’s our Ambassador Fanny Breuil tell you something more about that!

FYI - In total, there were more than 126 wines for tasting!

    Guest Bio

More than 60 years ago, Sergio Zenato found his passion and purpose in the vineyards of San Benedetto di Lugana, in Italy’s Veneto region. Together with his wife Carla, Sergio worked the land to create a brand and legacy that continue today with his children Nadia and Alberto.

Sergio saw promise in Trebbiano di Lugana and planted roots in San Benedetto di Lugana where today, the family’s S. Cristina estate sits amidst 95 hectares of vineyard land.

He later took over the Costalunga estate in the heart of Valpolicella Classica and began crafting wines using the local Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta varieties. Over the years, Zenato raised the standard for Valpolicella and today the family remains committed to crafting the highest quality wines the region has to offer. Zenato has long been considered one of the region’s premier producers, with hallmark wines including their Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, as well as their Ripassa, Valpolicella Superiore, and Alanera Rosso

    Veronese.

Nadia is responsible for the company strategy, the sales network and marketing of the Zenato winery. On top of that, she is also the winemaker of the Sansonina company, with which she aimed to create the ‘Rosso Sansonina del Garda’ - a red wine in the land of white.
