Cindy Stiene emailed from Madison, AL (jes' next door to H'ville): 'Hi, Marc Gunn!!! Glad to be part of the Celtic Music Mag list - don't know why it took me so long to join! I've been listening to your podcast for YEARS!!!!! I did receive the free MP3 tunes with no problems! I've added them to my music library of over 5500 tunes so they are in good company!

Just a tiny bit about me - I'm a recently retired engineer in Huntsville, Alabama and was an amateur whistle player in the Celtic community here. I used to play with some of the members of SlipJig and Black Market Haggis during the old Finnegan's Pub open sessions until the pub closed. While I've let my whistle skills wither, I've kept up with the world of Celtic Music and thoroughly enjoy listening to your show and Thistle & Shamrock. I've always felt that mix gave me the broadest exposure to new and old tunes, musicians, etc. There's just something about Celtic music, whether Irish, Scottish, Galician, Welsh, etc. that just grabs you and won't let go. Please keep up the good work you do to showcase the latest and greatest musicians out there. Slainte!"

Kerrydan tweeted a picture: "Hi Marc! Really loved listening to this instrumental show on my brisk lunchtime walk along the Red River in Winnipeg, Canada. In between tracks, you'd swear you could hear the ghosts of Scottish and Métis fiddles joining in."

Nash from the UK emailed: "Hey Marc, Tried to confirm my subscription and although I am taken to the "thanks for subscribing" page, I still have not had the sign up email / zip for the albums. Waited a few hours, put your address in the contacts, but no joy yet. Maybe there are some leprechauns at work....?

Nice podcast – just a suggestion. Could you put the tracklist / artist in the show notes? It's great that you play a few songs back to back to not interrupt them, but by the time you then announce the artist / track name, I sometimes struggle to match them up."

Hey Nash, thanks so much for writing. If you signed up to the email list and did NOT get an email back, I'd suggest you check your spam folder or trash. I don't know what those leprechauns are up to, but they can be troublesome with email.

One more suggestion for everyone who is subscribed, reply to one of the magazine emails. That will hopefully insure that future emails go straight to your inbox and not to your gmail promotions or anything like that.

As for the podcast suggestion, Nash, everything you mentioned is there. If you look at your podcatcher, you should be able to find all of the tracks and time listings for the artists in the show. If you can't find them there, please let me know. But you can also find them on our website at celticmusicpodcast.com

Jim & Judy Wolfe emailed about the Flute/Whistle special idea: "Hey Marc, been listening for many years and one band I discovered on the podcast that fits the bill is Flook. Sarah Allen's flute, and Brian Finnegan's whistle are great examples for you to consider. Keep up the good work."

A few episodes back, I suggested a flute/whistle episode might be in order. So I decided to set that up as our new Patreon Milestone. We are thirty dollars away from a 2-hour Celtic Flute & Whistle special.

Chrissy Willow emailed: "Hey, Marc! I followed your podcasts years ago until Google Listen was retired and lost track of you. I'm so glad to see your podcasts on Google Play and have begun following again! The reason I write is because I'm trying to locate a song you played years ago. It was a ballad of a woman who walks the strand and calls up storms to dash the sailors' ships on the rocks. I've searched all over the place but can't find it, and can't remember enough of the lyrics to help. Thus, I'm hoping you might remember the song. Thank you so much for bringing such wonderful Irish music to my life. Have a lovely Saint Patrick's Day!"

Happy St Patrick's Day my friends. This is an extra-special episode of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. Every year since 2005, I release an article titled "17 Free Celtic MP3s for St Patrick's Day". I follow it up with a podcast that highlights all of the music that you can download for FREE! This is that podcast.

I want you to listen to this show. Then head over to the shownotes at celticmusicpodcast.com, and follow the link to download all 17 tracks in this show with no strings attached. It's a simple ZIP file that you can download to your computer, unzip, and start playing. It's super easy.

And this is sort of what you get every month when you become a Patron of the Podcast as a Song Henger, pledging at least $5 per month. You get a full album of Celtic songs and tunes from many of the artists featured in this show.

Follow the link in the shownotes.

Of course, if you enjoy any of these artists, then I hope you will find a way to support them. Start by signing up to their mailing list and learning more.

I want to send out a big thanks to Apple Podcasts. They gave us a big feature this week in the app, just in time for St. Patrick's Day. Welcome to all the new Apple Podcast subscribers. I hope you enjoy the show.

If you're not following us on Facebook, I don't know what's up with you. Every time I see a band share a St Patrick's Day show, I share it on the feed. And of course if you're in a band, use the hashtag #CelticMusicNews if you want me to see it.

Last week, I release a new CD inspired by the TV show Firefly. While I play a lot Sci Fi Drinking Songs, I got my start playing Celtic music. That's why I released Celtic Music 6-Pack. You can now own six of my most-Celtic albums packed full of Irish and Scottish Songs. You can even get them at 50% off. Go to CelticMusic.org/6pack for details.

At least my photographs from Ireland and Scotland are digital--zeros and ones are so much lighter than prints."

I hope the move went well Karl!

John Thompson emailed: "Hey Marc, I was listening to episode 338 (Christmas show) of the Irish & Celtic Music podcast and was blown away by the song "Glasgow Christmas Rain" by Highland Reign. I went on Youtube and watched just about every Highland Reign video I could find. Then I went to CD Baby, bought 3 of their CDs and downloaded a fourth. I'm going to post a message to their website to say how amazing they sound and that I heard them on YOUR show. They're from the midwest so I probably never would have discovered them without the Irish & Celtic music podcast. (I'm in Philly and the only other Celtic group from the midwest I've run into in this neck of the woods is The Elders -- another fantastic band!). You ABSOLUTELY make a difference! I've been a Celtic music fan for a long time but have only been a listener and patron of the Irish & Celtic Music podcast for the last few years. I wish I had found it sooner. Your podcast never disappoints!"

Thank you SO MUCH, John! I love hearing about which bands and songs inspire you. And that you're actually buying music.

Musicians have it tough in this day and age. I'm extremely pleased that the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast can connect Celtic bands with Celtic music fans. It's a challenge. But that's why I am here.

So keep listening. Keeping telling your friends about the show. And when this episode is over, go thank one of these bands for being awesome!

Henry Meger emailed: "Dia dhuit, Marc, I discovered your podcast last spring and have been entranced and charmed with it ever since as I catch up to date.

Just wanted to send some personal thanks. My father has been playing Celtic guitar for most of his life and all of mine, so it's been in the house since day one. I thought I had heard it all, each corner and subgenre to be found, but my library has been greatly and duly humbled by your extensive and seasoned pallet. I've shared the podcast and many of its contents with my dad, and it has enriched our Celtic cosmos remarkably.

I took the podcast with me last summer while studying abroad in Russia and it was a wonderful way to keep in touch with my roots during my commute. Having also spent time in non-Celtic Spain, the Galicia episode opened another door in my musical conception of Iberia. In short, Thank you!!

An amateur flute player myself, I would love to hear a flute-heavy episode, and I'm sure all musicians who listen to the podcast would love their own instrument-themed episodes. Just a thought that has crossed my mind (not that you don't have plenty already!) Keep up the fantastic work---it's very much appreciated!"

Thank you Henry. I haven't done a flute or whistle episode. Let me see what I can put together. I wish I had an easy way to search my archive for flute music. Sadly, I don't. But perhaps I can reach out to you and all my listeners. If you have heard some bands with flute or whistle, please email me the band names so I can make a possible list of the podcast.

Jennifer Lohman emailed a picture: "While I am listening to your podcast from Terra Alta, WV (USA) 31 degrees here today-so the dogs & I are staying in."

Stephen Reimann emailed: "Dear Celt Father, I am a big fan of your show and what you are doing to add breadth and depth to those who listen to Celtic music.

I am an Account Manager for a major Pharmaceutical company which requires an extensive amount of driving. By extensive I mean on average 60K miles each year. Your podcast enables me to not only pass the time driving between accounts, but also increase my knowledge and love of all things musically Irish and Celtic. The theme diversity of your shows is stellar. Just like Christopher Walken's SNL character, The Bruce Dickinson, needed "More Cowbell," I need more bagpipes. Any chance of another Bagpipe theme'd show in the near future?

Thank you for all you do to sharpen our proverbial musical sgian-dubhs." Stephen "Bow Tie Steve" Reimann (Rye-man)

Thanks Bow Tie Steve. Yeah. You can never have enough bagpipes. It will have to be a few months, but I'll add that to the list as well. Maybe I should add both this and the flute show as milestones...

Would you be interested in another bagpipe show as well. Drop me a line.

Jiffy emailed a picture: "Hi Marc! I listen to current and past episodes while making art in my little studio space. Most of the things I'm painting and drawing this month will be Christmas gifts (photo below shows some work in progress). The music you play always inspires, and I've discovered new favorites thanks to you. I've even rediscovered artists I lost track of over the years. Keep up the good work! Thank you, slainté!"

Gerry Corr emailed: "I am originally from Belfast and was a Step dancer in my early youth and stopped as I did not want to wear a kilt walking down Falls Road; I went on to become an accomplished athlete in multiple sports, primarily Hurling. Actually went to school with Seamus Kennedy who you have featured on some shows.

In 1980 I moved to US and I now live in Somersworth NH, next to Dover for past 25+ years. Dover is where Tommy Makem made his home and whose family are friends of ours– people from the textile mills in Armagh were some of the founders of the City. It was here where I came back to the music and started dancing again at age of 50 and picked up a mandolin that I love to play, albeit not great, but have fun

One of my daughters is married and lives in Dartmouth Nova Scotia and I fell in love with the NS Scottish/Irish music and song during my visits, she is an accomplished artist and did artwork for an album I made with a group called An Banna Ceoil several years ago; we don't play out anymore but are still playing "house" music Came across your podcast through iTunes a couple of months ago and will now be a regular; love the live sessions from the pubs

Keep the music alive Marc, it keeps us young in mind and heart. BTW I was able to download the Free Music – very easy process – just have to get them onto my phone in iTunes to carry them with me – if you have any advice on this would love to hear it." Slan abhaile agus beannacht De leat

I've received quite a few emails from people who listen to this podcast while they study. One person asked if I would release another instrumental episode. So here it is. Of course, if you'd like a good 3-hour long instrumental show, check out #204. And we have other instrumental episodes.
