106: Are you missing out on Charitable Real Estate? Mar 11, 2021
    Show notes

My guest today is Cami Baker. Known as the Charitable Real Estate Strategist, Cami has created Cause Marketing Campaigns for the largest real estate companies and nonprofits to come together to "Make Money and Make a Difference". When she heard that there is a Secret Real Estate Niche that is funding nonprofits by the Billions every year, Cami got to work to come up with a WIN WIN WIN solution!

As an HGTV House Hunters veteran and Top 5% Realtor, Cami truly understands the real estate market and how important it is for the agents to get paid what they are worth. When you add her fundraising strategies with Make a Wish, Ronald McDonald House and hundreds other nonprofits you get a Certification Program that teaches Realtors how to FUND their nonprofit friends!

Real Estate is Hot, and Fundraising is not. Not since the pandemic anyway, and Cami is on a mission to have $1 Billion in real estate donations to nonprofits worldwide by 2025.

Here's what to expect during the episode:

    • What is cause-related marketing, or in Cami's words, purpose-driven marketing?
    • You don't have to be Bill Gates for you to be able to give back.
    • The three elements that make charitable real estate work. How effective is it in the first place? Are there any risks involved?
    • The reality that nonprofits might be missing out on the opportunities of charitable real estate.
    • Reasons why people might want to donate real estate and where you can find them.
    • Why there is virtually no downside to taking advantage of this opportunity, even to the donors.

    105: Recruiting a Diverse Workforce: One Executive's Experience Mar 04, 2021
    Show notes

My guest today is Daniel Hodges. Daniel is the President & Co-founder of Peaces of Me Foundation, and a JD candidate attending University of Baltimore School of Law. Previously, Daniel volunteered in various roles, including teaching at his church. He also volunteered with the National Federation of the Blind.

Daniel received his BA in educational studies from Western Governor's University. While pursuing this degree, 2 of his 3 children underwent chemo for a rare form of eye cancer inherited from their mother. Daniel's daughter was born needing immediate treatment for her cancer. My former wife and I spent the first several weeks of her life dealing with this while the State of Colorado formally evaluated our ability to parent - threatening loss of custody - solely based upon our blindness.

    Both children turned out fine.

Most of his advocacy experience has been obtained through informal interactions; helping friends and family navigate through various hurdles. These experiences are what led him to pursue a law degree, and ultimately launch Peaces of Me.

Here's what to expect during the episode:

    • Daniel's process of starting his nonprofit from scratch.
    • The impact of entertaining the possibility that doing things differently could bring significant improvement.
    • Understanding that all people, regardless of disability, are human beings with varying attributes that can benefit a board.
    • Creating "universal access" is not as cumbersome as others may have thought.
    • Tips for nonprofit leaders who want to recruit staff or board members with disabilities.

Rising Ground currently supports more than 25,000 children, adults, and family members across New York City and Westchester County with programs that range from foster care, family services, and intimate partner violence prevention and survivor support, to special education, intellectual and developmental disabilities services, and a sanctuary for unaccompanied migrant youth.

There he managed a growing operation with 400 - plus staff, an annual budget exceeding $22 million, and programs serving more than 900 individuals and families each week.
