How a Certified Educational Planner Can Give Your Student a Collegiate Edge  -  Stephanie Meade Oct 24, 2019
    Show notes

Stephanie Meade has been working with teenagers and their families and the college process for 30 years. In addition to providing college guidance to hundreds of teens, she and her company, The Collegiate Edge, offered standardized test prep for 25 years, as well as academic support and mentoring to a range of students, including those with ADHD and mild learning and emotional challenges. The neuroscience of learning and the teen brain have long fascinated her, and she enjoys weaving that information into her work with families. Modern parenting, and how it has changed over the last 30 years, is another favorite topic. Stephanie holds the designation of Certified Educational Planner, the highest level of competency awarded in the profession. She is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling, Higher Education Consultants Association, and Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). She has served on a number of professional boards and committees, on the faculty for IECA’s Summer Training Institute, and enjoys mentoring newer members of the profession. She presents regularly at national conferences and community events on topics related to college planning and parenting teens. In the past year, she was quoted in the Wall Street Journal and the Hollywood Reporter, and was a panelist on “Deep Dive” for Fox Nation, responding to questions about the profession raised by the “Varsity Blues” scandal.

In This Episode, You Will Learn:

    • The role of a Certified Educational Planner in your child's life.
    • Why job shadowing is a quick introduction to numerous career possibilities.

Four Challenges Holding Women Back in Business (and Life) - Dr. Cortney Baker Oct 11, 2019
    Show notes

Dr. Cortney Baker is on a mission to change the world – one woman, one mother, one daughter and one legacy at a time. But her path to popularity, power, and prosperity has required her to navigate numerous potholes. In 1993, six months after graduating from high school, she put dreams of attending college at Texas A&M on hold and instead became a single teenage mom. Watching her friends leave for college, she was instead forced onto Medicaid, food stamps and double-shifts as a pregnant waitress. Despite those immense obstacles, she launched a successful and transcendent business career. Through a combination of passion and persistence, Dr. Cortney earned her Master’s degree from Southern Illinois University and founded KidsCare Home Health. In 2005, Dr. Cortney suffered a pulmonary embolism and in 2012 endured a stroke that required a 7-hour brain surgery. Despite seemingly insurmountable health odds, she quickly rebounded, earning her doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University. She is currently the CEO and Chairman of the Board for KidsCare, a multi-million dollar enterprise providing speech, physical, occupational, and nursing services to over 2,500 children with special needs from Texas to Colorado. She has also authored Unlimited: Conquering the Myth of the Glass Ceiling and the best-selling book, The 10 Dos and Don’ts for Business Leadership: Lessons to Lead Effectively. When not getting lost or making a stop at Whataburger for her beloved Diet Coke, Dr. Cortney resides near Dallas with her husband, two children, two dogs, and a rescue cat. Dr. Cortney was named 2016/2017 Texas Business Woman of the Year.

In This Episode, You Will Learn:

    • How Cortney started KidsCare Home Health, a multi-million dollar healthcare organization in Texas, Idaho, and Colorado.

An Unconventional Life: Turning Your Dreams Into Realities  -  Stacey Robbins Oct 08, 2019
    Show notes

Stacey Robbins is an integrated wellness coach, speaker, and author of An Unconventional Life: Where Messes and Magic Collide, You’re Not Crazy and You’re Not Alone, and Bloom Beautiful. She creates experiences through her international retreats and workshops, empowering women to live from what she calls their “Brave Soul Place.”

Her career began as a professional musician when she was 15, working as a songwriter, pianist, and vocalist in solo performance as well as with many other talented artists, but when she was 27 hit a health bump that dramatically shifted her life. Through that experience and years of research of a diagnosis with Hashimoto’s (an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid and therefore every cell in your body) she has been able to speak all over the US and reach people all over the world with her healing insights that she discovered through her own sacred journey. Stacey resides in Southern California with her author, tech-geek, musician husband and their two amazing, curly-haired teenage sons.
