Creating a Judgement-free Zone Around Mental Health - Alessandra Torresani Nov 11, 2022
    Show notes

Having made her television debut at just 9 years old, Alessandra Torresani is well-known for her roles in The Big Bang Theory, Caprica, Arrested Development and Malcolm in the Middle. In our interview with Alessandra, she gets candid about navigating adult life as an actress after she was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 at the age of 22. Despite being discouraged from talking about her mental health openly, Alessandra realized the importance of encouraging stigma-free conversations about mental health after she decided to share her story.

She said, “I’m Alessandra Torresani, and I am bipolar. Who wants

to talk?” It turns out, a lot of people did. This “talk” kick-started

her advocacy to normalize talking about mental health issues, and she has since

started her own podcast, called EmotionAL

Support, where she discusses mental health with her guests.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    - Alexandra's childhood and her journey through misdiagnosis

    - The importance that documenting both highs and lows has on

    receiving an accurate diagnosis

    - Alessandra’s work with NAMI, and the conference where she

    shared her bipolar diagnosis

    - How toxic positivity discourages people from talking about

    their struggles

    - Finding emotional support and comfort

    - The difference between mental health and mental illness

    - What we can do to help destigmatize the conversation around

    mental health

According to Alessandra, it's vital that we start talking about

mental health openly and encourage people to seek support and medical help when

they need it. This is the only way to foster an environment where every single

one of us can celebrate our individuality and uniqueness.

She talked about time management, building a team, finding the right people, systems, and the power of the tools. Kris also shared that her journey into the world of productivity was accelerated after her husband was diagnosed with colon cancer. When she returned from caring for him, she realized that many people she knew were working too many hours and not living the life they wanted. She set out to help them change that. What Life Will Look Like in 30 to 40 years Oct 28, 2022
    Show notes

George J. Chanos is a lawyer and a former attorney general with both eyes on the future. His foresight led him to write the books Seize Your Destiny: A Roadmap to Success and Millennial Samurai: A Mindset for the 21st Century.

However, creating thought-provoking books isn’t his only talent. George has recently been hard at work on an NFT art project called People Reign.

In this episode, George shared his predictions for the future and his latest undertaking.

George talked about how his desire to help his daughter and his nephew navigate their futures led to the creation of his first book. He quickly came to the realization that his young relatives wouldn’t be experiencing the same world that he had been dealing with all his life. Their future looked different.

Determining what that entailed led him to create his second book.

George now believes that a technological tsunami is coming for all of us and the water is currently rising. Automation will make many jobs things of the past. But if we put our minds together and ask the right questions, we can ultimately choose what our future will look like.

    In This Episode:

    • [02:44] - George talks about his heart attack and what he learned from the experience.
    • [05:25] - A letter to George’s teenage daughter becomes the book: Seize Your Destiny.
    • [06:34] - What will reality look like 30 to 40 years from now?
    • [08:42] - How do we give our children a better life?
    • [11:10] - Using your mind to overcome obstacles.
    • [16:12] - The value of different views.
    • [18:30] - How to make sense of different perspectives.
    • [37: 22] - What skills do we need to survive?
    • [45:30] - The future of technology.
    • [58:18] - The need for intelligent discussion.
    • [1:04:30] - George discusses how his passion for art led him to create People Reign.

    QUOTES

    • [09:56] - “Embrace your ignorance. And the reason why is that learning begins with a recognition of ignorance. If we think we know all the answers, why bother to learn? Right. So the reality is: is that we don’t know all the answers.” - George J. Chanos

    • [11:10] - “Frank Zappa. Your mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work if it isn’t open.” - George J. Chanos

    • [12:10] - “Your mind is a double-edged sword. It’s both your most powerful tool and your greatest liability.” - George J. Chanos

    • [15:37] - “We should learn that our beliefs and our views have no privileged legitimacy. Just because I think it’s a certain way does not mean that’s the way it is…. Just because my brain is telling me that this is reality and this is what it is doesn’t mean I’m right.” - George J. Chanos

    • [28:42] - “The more character you have, the more successful you are likely to be.” - George J. Chanos

    • [1:01:10] -“What is more important than knowledge is intelligence….Knowledge is accessible to all of us…But you have to know what question to ask. That is not knowledge. That is intelligence.” - George J. Chanos

    • [1:11:37] - “I believe it is important to speak out and to leave something behind.”- George J. Chanos

How Travis Brown Gained 90K Instagram Followers in 6 Weeks! Oct 21, 2022
    Show notes

Travis Brown jumped up to 90,000 followers on Instagram in just six weeks, and he’s joining us on today’s Insight Out episode to give YOU the tools you need to make that happen on your own social media platform.

As we dive into how his hit idea Pod Decks came to fruition, media consumption, the pressure to create viral content, secrets to a great hook, and more, you’ll learn about his journey to his multitude of business endeavors, how he hopes to help fellow content creators, and get a peek into his own content creation process.

You don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to hear about how the man who lived and breathed podcasts broadened his business and his audience!

    Let’s Meet Our Guest

Travis Brown is a social media content creator, keynote speaker, and Social Boom coach who believes in helping creatives, entrepreneurs, and business-minded individuals of the world reach their audience and their goals. While his own social media content focuses on business and income-inspired content (beginning with his unique tagline “Here’s a business idea – do something with it!”), his work for Social Boom centers on supporting and encouraging the rapid growth of anyone he seeks out his expertise.

    Here’s What You’ll Learn

    • How to manage your expectations and anxiety for your own creative output (3:30)
    • Why testing your strategies before committing to them is important (9:50)
    • Mindless scrolling vs. conscious consumption (17:00)
    • How to do your research in this field and why it’s essential (42:10)
    • Brown’s tips for crafting hooks and calls to action (45:08)
    • His top two tools for content creation right now (57:23)
    • Where you can find his content, a community of like-minded individuals, and resources for your own growth (1:00:18)

Travis Brown’s Thoughts on Content Creation & Research

    Media Consumption:

    1. Manage the habit (and comparison) by setting a timer before you scroll.
    2. Pay attention to what’s working and what draws you in. Use this time to research!

    Creating Content:

    1. Let go of the expectation that your content needs to always succeed or go viral. Manage your anxiety about the pressure so you can create freely!
    2. Do your research by paying attention to popular content, hooks, etc.
    3. Define your outcome. What are people going to get from consuming your content?
    4. Test your ideas to see what works and what doesn’t.
    5. Once you find what works, stick with it! Your hook should remain constant, and keep your content within your niche.

    Crafting a Hook:

    1. Your hook can play on people’s fear of missing out, be a listicle, or even work to relate to your audience.
    2. Whichever you choose, you want to draw them in with a big statement that requires a reveal.
    3. After your big statement, offer your audience that instant gratification with an answer! If you wait around to reveal, you risk losing their attention.

    How to Research on TikTok:

    1. Open TikTok and filter by content made in the last three months and “most liked” content. This will show you what’s working RIGHT NOW.
    2. Look around and pay attention to hooks, video formatting, graphics, etc.
    3. Let this inspire you and fuel the success of your own content!

    Quotes

    Billy Samoa Saleebey

    • “Sometimes you gotta slow down to speed up.”
    • “Being able to pivot is a superpower.”

    Travis Brown

    • “You don’t need more information. You need more action.”
    • “Nobody cares; we’re just making chairs.” (Originally Chris Ballew)
    • “Research gives me a lottery ticket with five of the numbers already filled out.”
    • “Virality comes from predictability, not creativity.”

How to Go Viral with Brendan Kane Oct 14, 2022
    Show notes

Brendan Kane is a New York Times bestselling author and one of the most influential minds of our time. He is the author of 1 Million Followers and Hook Point. He has helped the largest brands and celebrities in the world reverse engineer how to make content go viral.

In this episode, Brendan joins me to talk about what it takes to make content go viral. Brendan discusses how the world of content creation has changed in the last 20 years and how this change has impacted the way that we communicate. He also talks about how the algorithms that control the reach and distribution of our content are only concerned with retention, and how this impacts the way we should be creating content. Brendan provides examples of how this principle has played out in the success of some of his clients, including Ryan Serhant and Graham Stefan.

In this episode, you will learn the following:

    • What is the biggest mistake content creators are making that prevents them from rising above the noise?
    • What are the best content creators doing to keep the attention then we'll talk about getting attention.

    In This Episode:

[00:02:38] - Biggest mistakes content creators are making.

[00:07:52] - Example of how niche videos can go viral.

[00:11:49] - What do the best content creators do to keep attention?

    [00:12:39] - Tension and release.

    [00:15:13] - Physics and virality.

[00:17:25] - Research is so vital.

[00:17:54] - Understanding why things go viral.

    [00:22:14] - Gold - level content commonalities.

[00:24:13] - Pacing and sound effects.

[00:25:07] - Effects on the viewer.

[00:28:58] - Creating content that matches your message.

[00:34:43] - Peaking curiosity and yourself.

[00:37:45] - What we got wrong about the algorithm.

[00:41:52] - Biggest social media lessons.

[00:44:07] - The importance of research.

Quote: ‘’One of the fundamental principles that have really changed in content and communication at scale is what we call the generalist approach of how do we make people care about our subject matter, our expertise if they know nothing about us, or maybe they had no interest in what we were talking about before. That is the key to virality. Because the truth is, we are the product of the algorithm. These platforms are not producing premium content to keep people on the platform’’

    1. Research. Gather information. Then,
    2. Define. Group research and data and narrow it down to solve a specific problem. Next,
    3. Conceptualize. Create a prototype. And finally,
    4. Deliver. Distribute the design into the world.

Then gather feedback and repeat the steps.

    How to Find a Mentor

A mentor should be an advisor, friend, and idol

    1. Get clear on the definition
    2. Go through a personal analysis
    3. Pair your goals with the right people
    4. Mentor others and give back

How to Develop Influencer Marketing Programs - Neal Schaffer Sep 23, 2022
    Show notes

We are living in the Age of Influence.

After learning about my guest through fellow podcaster and friend Dan Nestle, I became deeply curious about how and why influence matters in today’s world. Neal Schaffer is the author of Age of Influence and for the last decade has become a globally recognized leader in the social media and digital marketing space. Having written multiple books on social media and networking, Neal is a leading voice.

His successful podcast, Maximize Your Social Influence dives into all things social and digital.

In this episode, we talk about themes from his latest book that help to illustrate the enormous power of influencer marketing.

We learn why word of mouth is still the currency that is most valuable and why social media plays a critical role in inciting it!

He shares why being a celebrity is no longer the type of influencer brands need to find customers. He talks about the value of finding a community and how even micro-influencers play a critical role because of their relevance in specific areas.

We even explore how various regions around the world, like China and Japan, are at different places when it comes to embracing influencer marketing. This show, and his book, isn’t about what it takes to be an influencer, but rather provides insights about and embraces the voice of influencers to enhance your brand.
