Ep 257 What's Trending in Aesthetics? (Chapter 2) | Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal Jun 06, 2024
    Show notes

Episode 257 showcases our hosts Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal

In our 'What's trending in Aesthetics?' mini-series of episodes we discuss topics that have been popular with injectors on social media or in the news. We'll cover controversies, big stories and themes that have got our industry talking.

In Chapter 2 we cover an article published by The Sun newspaper in the UK. This reported that Laser Clinics UK (with 50 locations built in the last few years) had suddenly been forced to liquidate several of its clinics. This decision left staff jobless and patients angry, with many having paid for treatments in advance with no recourse or refunds offered.

We discuss the global trends that have led to this, other issues that larger chain clinics often struggle with and make some predictions about how difficult the next 12-24 months might be.

Ep 251 What Makes a Good Injector & Has the Bar Been Set Too Low? | Pene Timberlake Apr 25, 2024
    Show notes

Episode 251 hosts Pene Timberlake (Nurse Practioner based in Freshwater, Australia)

Pene was one of our very first guests on IA (Episodes 3, 26 and 43) and is one of the country's most experienced nurse injectors.

We first learn about her progression from being a Registered Nurse to a Nurse Practitioner (NP). We get an understanding about what this qualification entails and why this was so challenging. We also learn about why the door for nurses wanting to become aesthetic NP's is now effectively closed.

In her first appearance on the podcast over five years ago, we re-visit the question of what makes a good cosmetic injector. With the landscape and regulations having changed so much in Australia, we explore the deeper issue of whether the bar has simply been set too low to become an injector? We ponder whether the changes that have been made were actually very necessary and what else needs to be done to create a recognised 'injecting' speciality.

Ep 250 The Latest Australian Regulatory Changes – Where Do Injectors Go From Here? | Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal Apr 18, 2024
    Show notes

Episode 250 showcases our hosts Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal

Fresh from our Easter break, we first learn about Dr Jake's trips to New Zealand with Allergan, London for the ACE conference, France to visit the Allergan filler manufacturing plant and Moanco for the AMWC conference.

We then discuss our main topic and the fallout of the latest regulatory changes announced in Australia. With cosmetic clinics now banned from advertising their prices, their menu of services (that involve using medications) and before & afters photos, where exactly do injectors go from here?

Despite all the noise and pushback from the injector community, we ponder whether this is exactly what is needed. A redo, a rethink and a return to the medical model.
