    How Your Personal Practices Make You an Exceptional Leader, According to Kathryn Goldman Schuyler Jan 14, 2025
    Show notes

    Guest: Kathryn Goldman Schuyler, Ph.D.

    From fostering smiles in the office to mindfulness, your personal practices have a major effect on your team – and your success. In fact, what you do as a person – not just as a leader – can ripple through your organization.

    That’s one major takeaway from Dr. Kathryn Goldman Schuyler in this episode. She’s conducted extensive research on “waking up at work” – a greater awareness of workplace systems and how your actions affect them. Having a sense of humor, spending time outdoors, journaling, meditation: they can all boost positivity and morale in your team, and that boosts productivity and engagement in the process.

    Here's what Kathryn and Maureen cover:

    1. How personal practices impact your professional growth and leadership effectiveness;
    2. The many ways journaling, walking, and “mindful moments” unlock your full potential in the workplace; and
    3. How to inspire and motivate your team with a sense of humor and generally boosting joy at work.

    To Stop a Tyrant: How Five Types of Followers Make (or Brake) a Toxic Leader Jan 06, 2025
    Show notes

    Guest: Ira Chaleff, former executive director of the Congressional Management Foundation

    Tyrants can only rise with our help. And they aren’t limited to heads of state. Family heads, corporate CEOs, a town mayor: any leadership role can have tyrannical qualities. As followers, we make them possible.

    And we can push them to a better path.

    Our guest, Ira Chaleff, studies followership in-depth. He’s identified five categories of followers who play a role in a tyrant’s rise…and how they can change that course.

    Here's what Ira and Maureen cover:

    1. Where you may stand in the follower categories;
    2. The big differences between dictators and tyrants; and
    3. What you can do to improve outcomes by understanding the concepts of courageous followership.

    11 Steps to Help You Heal Divides from the Centre for Peace & Security Dec 17, 2024
    Show notes

    Guest: Mike Hardy, founder & former director, Coventry University’s Centre for Peace & Security

    Is peace relevant to business?

    Absolutely, according to Mike Hardy. Profits and stability arise from peacefulness, yet we relegate its pursuit to nonprofit and government leaders. In this episode, Mike shares both his research and diplomatic experience to show how leaders in all sectors can create, and benefit from, peace and security in their communities and around the globe.

    Here's what Mike and Maureen cover:

    1. Why you have just as much of a leadership role in fostering peace and security as any Prime Minister or President;
    2. How an experience in Iceland brought him to focus on the interplay of trust, peace, and social relations; and
    3. Why Star Wars provides a perfect model for inclusion and DEI in real life.

    Guest: Greg Moran, Former Ford Senior Executive

    How do you negotiate the best deal possible?

    Our guest, Greg Moran, shares the three key elements he discovered negotiating for Ford and other top corporations. The ultimate success, he found, came when both parties found great benefit in the results.

    Here's what Greg and Maureen cover:

    1. Why going for the win is less important than finding the win-win;
    2. Why the other party isn’t the enemy – it’s something else entirely; and
    3. Why the other side tries to instill a sense of fear in you over losing the deal.
