    Show notes

This week, I sit with down Nigel McDaniel to talk about where he came up from, music, how he got into radio, his podcast @thenewwavepodcast, and so much more. I been trying to get Nigel in the chair for a minute. So dope to see other people in the city doing dope shit in their own way. You can hear Nigel on WAMO 100.1 or on The New Wave Podcast. I been listening to his podcast for a minute so I'm excited to chop it up with him and see how it came to be. Don't sleep on this one.

    I'll Call You Right Back #71 - Sam Meyer May 23, 2019
    Show notes

This week, I sit down with my first best friend of my entire life, Sam Meyer. Sam is my cousin and probably who I spent most of my childhood with. Ever since we were young I always looked up to Sam. I was lucky to have a brother and cousins that were older than me so they showed me the ropes. We talk about growing up and how Sam's father owned a video store in White Oak, Pa. ET Video was where my love of movies blossomed so it was cool to talk to her about what it was like growing up and owning a movie store before we had anything and everything available at our fingertips. Thanks, Internet. After graduating from highschool Sam served in the Navy. We talk about what it's like being a female in that world of mostly men, her being one of the few females in her position of Electricians Mate First Class, what it was like being in command of people, and what day to day life is like on an aircraft carrier. After leaving the military, Sam took a job working as a Show Control Technician at Gringotts Bank in Universal Studios and I ask her all about that. I love Harry Potter and it was sooo sick to hear all about that world behind the scenes. This whole episode is so great. I'm so proud of Sam and all the incredible shit she's done. She's a badass woman and she has a great story. Enjoy it.

    I'll Call You Right Back #70 - Matt Christie May 16, 2019
    Show notes

This week, I sit down with Matt Christie, who is the owner and executive chef at the best spot in town, Streets on Carson. If you've ever listened to an episode, you probably know I ride for Streets on Carson like it is my own. - A year ago, I asked Matt to come on the podcast and talk about his roots, where his love of cooking came from, and the process of opening his own restaurant. Its a great conversation and you can hear all about that on EP 22 but this week we talk about so much more. - Streets on Carson specializes in "Street Foods From Around The World" and today they have a brand new menu dropping. We talk about the process of picking new dishes, the special ingredients needed to cook some dishes, where recipes come from, and how Streets executes the delicious recipes so that they are still authentic to their homes. I've always been fascinated by restaurants but I've never had the opportunity to work in one so I never fully understood how one works. This week that changes. I filled in as a food runner at Streets for a few days so I got to see how a professional kitchen is ran. The timing, prep, and process of a functioning kitchen is mind blowing and we talk all about it. We also talk about how I fucked up and dropped two full plates of food down the steps as I was running them to a table. SMH. This whole conversation is great. I love Matt and his wife and I am so happy to know them and have them supporting what I do with the podcast. Enjoy the episode and thanks for listening as always. - HEADS WILL ROLL MAY 19TH @ STREETS! Follow @franssim_stuffs and @betmursfor info!

    I'll Call You Right Back #69 - PK Delay May 09, 2019
    Show notes

This week, I sit with down with @pkdelay. PK is an extremely talented artist who focuses his energy on rap and hiphop. PK and I talk about everything from when he first started writing to where his unique style & "drip" came from. @pkdelay is currently working on a project where he releases a FREE track every single day FOR A YEAR and we talk about the motivation behind that. We also talk about the music industry in Pittsburgh, developing his style over the years, playing shows, working with people like @leveonbell, and much more. I like PK Delay a lot. I always see him grinding. His work ethic and his consistency with these tracks he's been releasing is so dope to me. To release a track everyday for a year is a huge goal to set and I'm trying to support him anyway I can. I been wanting to sit down with him for awhile and I'm excited to finally have a chance to peek inside his mind. Enjoy this episode.

    I'll Call You Right Back #68 - Chad Medved May 02, 2019
    Show notes

This week, I sit down with myself. Don't worry... this is not going to be a regular thing. I have just always wanted to try a solo episode. I think it takes a lot of skill to do it correctly and I want to see if I can, so any and all feedback is welcomed and appreciated. If you've been listening to the podcast then you probably know a little bit about me already but in this episode I'm going to talk a little bit about myself, @illcallyourightback, where the ideas for my merch came from, and my trip to California I just got back from. I'm excited. Like I said, this is not going to be a regular thing. I have dope guests coming in the next weeks but you need to step out of your comfort zone to cultivate growth. I hope you enjoy the episode and thanks for listening.

    I'll Call You Right Back #67 - Alex Young Apr 25, 2019
    Show notes

This week, I sit down with Alex Young of @intheroughstyle. InTheRough is a online media publication that highlights different creatives and details out their progression through very well done interviews. Alex interviewed me a week ago for a feature on InTheRough and I was so impressed with how well he orchestrated our conversation. I wanted to talk with Alex to hear how started writing, where InTheRough came from, how he approaches interviews from a writers point of view, and how he chooses his subjects. I am always so curious about how other people approach certain topics, so I was excited to talk with Alex and hear a little about where his story started and how he got to where he is today.

    I'll Call You Right Back #66 - Zeds Apr 18, 2019
    Show notes

This week, I sit down with @shopzeds. Zed's is a vintage and resale shop that specializes in everything from vintage Tommy Hilfiger and Polo to the most sought after Yeezy, Jordan, and Supreme pieces. I talk to Zed about how he was first exposed to fashion and where his knowledge of the industry grew from. We talk about what life was like growing up in Indiana, going to school at IUP for business management, becoming a certified barber, and realizing he had bigger goals than cutting hair everyday. Zed tells me about how he was selling clothes and cutting hair in his basement all while doing crazy numbers on eBay. As time went on, he eventually decided to open his own shop last year in the Southside of Pittsburgh and ever since there's been no looking back. His shop is my favorite in the city and it's been on fire. On any given day, you can catch all different kinds of dope shit Zed's has to offer so I wanted to see what the guy behind it was all about. This is dope interview. I love Zed's store and I strongly suggest yinz stop by to check it out.

    I'll Call You Right Back #65 - Brian Gonnella Apr 11, 2019
    Show notes

This week, I sat down with Brian Gonnella. Brian is a full time artist from Pittsburgh that has been living off his passion for years. We talk about where his love of art came from and how it's been a consistent part of his life since the beginning. Early on, Brian fell in love with comic books and hip hop music. From there, his interests blossomed into graffiti, "street art," traveling, and much more. We talk about how he transitioned his artwork from a hobby into a way to pay the bills, living on a Indian Reservation as part of an art residency that allowed him and other street artists access to unlimited blank walls to fill with dope work, how much work and money goes into the big murals we all see on the side of huge buildings, and how important it is for other people with bigger platforms to use their voice and make some shit happen within the community. I really enjoyed talking to Brian. It's always refreshing to pick the brain of creative people who carve their own path and succeed in doing what they love. Shit is crazy motivating to me. I loved this episode and I know you will too. Thanks for listening!

    I'll Call You Right Back #64 - Alyssa Fine Apr 04, 2019
    Show notes

This week, I sat down with Alyssa Fine to talk about bees. Bees and I don't get along that well but I've always been curious about them. I was on the hunt for the right person, so I googled "Pittsburgh Honey" and to my surprise I came across Alyssa's store, @pittsburghhoney. She looked super legit from the pictures on her profile so I knew she'd be the right person to talk to. I went to her shop to talk with her about how she got into this world, the process of starting your own hive, caring for your bee's, harvesting honey, pests, the endless possibilities of things you can make using bees wax and honey, and literally so much more. This podcast is filled to the brim with knowledge. I seriously learned so much. Alyssa lives and breathes honey bees and she did a fantastic job of explaining the in's and out's of the bee business. I loved talking with her and learning about everything and I know you're going to enjoy this episode. Learn something new!

    I'll Call You Right Back #63 - Ralph Martino Mar 28, 2019
    Show notes

This week, I get to go toe to toe with the great one, again. Ralph Martino was previously on ICYRB (Ep 31 if you'd like to check it out and get up to speed) to talk about his journey from being the obese guy you see in these first couple photos to the guy you see in the last couple photos. He completely changed his life. His fitness and health journey is unreal to hear about. When he was on the podcast before he talked about how he wanted to go to school for yoga and eventually become a teacher. Well, here we are a year later and Ralph has finished yoga school and he is teaching his first yoga class on Friday. This week, we talk about what yoga school is like, the type of work you're given, the process of becoming an instructor, the countless benefits of yoga, what he's going to do differently as an instructor, Sensory Deprivation Tanks, and so much more. This whole episode was crazy. I always love talking to Ralph. Do not miss this episode. I promise you this one is so good.
