Show notes

As promised, today is a sort of rant off between Zack and John. Zack goes off on the NBA and the crazy Covid protocols and John gets after the Cleveland Browns. Both did a good job but let me know what you think too. We'll be doing it again so let's see who can bring it. I look forward to your comments!

Grant's Rant: 1-14-21 James Harden represents everything that's wrong with pro sports today. Jan 14, 2021

Show notes

As you know, I've been ranting on James Harden for over a month. The Houston Rockets may now be a better team because of his moving to the Brooklyn Nets. I hope so. Now he can see what he can do to disrupt another already challenged team. He's going to get to play with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Well, at least Durant. We know where he is on game night. Isn't it clear to league leadership that players are going to demand the teams operate around what they want vs the other way around if they don't get their arms around this mess? Let's talk about it for a minute today.

Every year around College Bowl time the conversation bubbles up. Big 10 vs Pac 10 vs SEC. After so many years of less than stellar performances, let's just call it what it is. Big 10 is good. That's it. Not great. If you want to know more about how I come to that conclusion, then be sure to listen up today. Let's end this annual discussion.

Grant's Rant: 1-12-21 What is going on with Kyrie Irving? Jan 12, 2021

Show notes

Seriously now. If you or I had acted the way Kyrie Irving is acting, we would no longer have our jobs. We get paid, we go to work and we support our "team" ...our company, our fellow workers, right? So why does the NBA allow this sort of behavior to continue? Why do these players the team so desperately needs for many reasons, get to simply disappear? What's with Kyrie anyhow? C'mon, if you need help, get it and we'll all understand but this just not showing up is unacceptable. Enough already Kyrie. Time to play ball. Show up. And the same for the league. Stop it already. Get control of your players and hold them accountable. I've got more to say about it all in today's rant.

Episode 29: How a parking space created a lifelong relationship. The beauty of sports. Jan 12, 2021

Show notes

You know I could go on forever about the value of sports and it's impact on so many things, including life in general. I have a particular story that I want to share for it's value in so many ways that began with a parking space and led to a lifelong relationship for two families that just happen to be Alabama fans. One of those families also happens to be the family of Jordan Battle of the University of Alabama football program. You have to hear the story of how this relationship occurred and what incredible people his parents are. It truly is one remarkable story that really highlights the value of sports to bring people together. And, for me, I was the fortunate one to be able to hear the story firsthand from those who created it. It is truly unbelievable. I hope you enjoy it!

Grant's Rant: 1-11-21 What on earth has happened to the Sacramento Kings? Jan 11, 2021

Show notes

Just days ago I ranted about the lunacy of Marvin Bagley's father tweeting about trading his son and harping on Luke Walton, the Kings' coach. And then De'Aaron Fox's father chiming in and then De'Aaraon having to get a last word in. And the Kings were playing well. That was then and this is now. Marvin looks like he's forgotten something in the locker room and the team has been embarrassed by both the Toronto Raptors and setting a franchise record for points against an opponent for the Trailblazers. I thought I was watching men play boys at times. Sporadic hustle, little heart and certainly a lack of demonstrated determined team play. What the heck is going on in that locker room? Good thing fans aren't allowed in as the few who chose to go see them play would have certainly been booing at points in each of these last two games. It's also a good thing the arena is empty now. It might be that way when they re-open if something doesn't change and change soon.

Grant's Rant 1-8-21: Jim Harbaugh. Michigan Wolverines, should he stay or should he go? Jan 08, 2021

Show notes

Why does a losing coach get to call the shots? I don't care what his name is or what he wants to do going forward, make a decision and let everybody get on with it. Why is Jim Harbaugh dealing with the Michigan Wolverines like this. Enough already. He needs a deadline so everyone else can move on, with or without him. Let's talk about this shall we?

Grant's Rant: 1-6-21 Chris Webber's mini-series on the Fab Five is too late. Jan 06, 2021

Show notes

Chris, it's too late. Your teammates from Michigan have already spoken about the Fab Five. There have been numerous stories told and videos made already. Problem is you just refused to participate when you had the chance to join in with the guys and set the stories straight. But you can't for some reason and now, 30+ year's later, you're finally going to tell your story? How about you just apologize and move on? There's no secret here. I'm sorry but this is one mini-series I'll not be able to watch.
