Grant's Rant: 12-2-20 Buddy Hield off the bench for the Sacramento Kings? Dec 02, 2020

Show notes

Look, I really like Buddy and you'll hear more about that in today's rant but Monte McNair, Sacramento Kings General Manager says all is good. I don't think so. Covid is beginning to rear it's ugly head in the NBA just weeks before the season is supposed to start and some of the players are complaining about having to play. Buddy wasn't happy about playing off the bench last year but that strategy was working. NBA players need to pay attention to what's going on around them. Fans are frustrated, stretching to buy or keep their tickets if they choose to continue to keep them. Some are tired of multimillionaire athletes complaining while they have to scrape together are few bucks and skip a meal to attend a game. And then there's the Sacramento Kings doing what they do so frequently. Starting over. Again. New GM, fairly new coach and staff and a new mix of players now looking at a different strategy. Or not. We shall see. More in today's rant.

Episode 17: Gerry Davis umpire math. 39 + 43 = 5000 in Major League Baseball. Dec 01, 2020

Show notes

Today I have the incredible privilege of interviewing Gerry Davis, Major League Baseball Umpire extraordinaire. 39 years behind the plate and on his way to 5000 games. Unbelievable. He's only 43 games away. 2021 should get him there. What's equally unbelievable are the stories he can tell from that many years. I mean think about it. What he's seen. The players he's watched come up, build their careers and retire. Repeat that sentence several times for the generations of players that he's umped. If you like baseball, you're going to love sitting with us on this conversation.

Grant's Rant: 12-1-20 Sarah Fuller SEC Special Teams Player of the Week? Gummy bears for all. Dec 01, 2020

Show notes

C'mon now. A squib kick down the field and you're awarded special play recognition? What's going on? Absolutely agree with Sarah's accomplishments but "player" recognition for just one not so average kick? How about something different in her recognition? Give the award of the week to somebody who really deserved it. Not just a one kick wonder. I applaud Sarah, I do. But is she really Special Teams PLAYER of the week? I have a little more to say about that in today's rant.

It's 2020 and that's it. I'm also fired up about the Las Vegas Raiders but you're going to have to listen to get that fury. It's all in today's rant.

Episode 16: A very heartfelt THANK YOU to YOU. Nov 27, 2020

Show notes

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving holiday. Certainly, it's a day of family and friends and, of course, food. And more food. And then sports for people like us. And more sports. But I really want to take a minute to reflect and share some stories of gratitude and appreciation for you. Without an audience of fans and friends, there really is no show. There's no value. So it's you that makes what I do worth doing. For that, I'm grateful. For being there when I needed you in this craziest of years, thank you. For listening and making the podcast a success in such a short period of time, thank you. And for sharing your questions and stories and concerns and opinions. Thank you. I can't do this without you. I hope you appreciate my reflection on Thanksgiving in today's episode. And again, I cannot say it enough, thank you for your support.

Show notes

What better way to share the holiday of thanks giving than with appreciation for you, my listeners and fans. Please know I appreciate you and thank you for your support in this crazy year. Be sure to check out the full podcast today as I share my thoughts and memories of the Thanksgiving holiday. And for today's rant (You didn't think I wasn't going to rant about something did you?) College football is running into Covid trouble. The NFL is running into Covid trouble but the NBA is going to start in three weeks? Folks, don't get your hopes up. There's no bubble this time and the NBA players are just as human as college football players and NFL players last I checked. I said it before and I'm saying it again. Here what it is in today's rant.

Grant's Rant: 11-25-20 What's Tom Brady's problem? Nov 25, 2020

Show notes

You saw it. Tom Brady left the field after losing the game. Bolted. No handshake with Jared Goff, no acknowledgment to the victorious Dallas Cowboys. Just gone. Did the same thing in Chicago to Nick Foles. That's truly unsportsmanlike conduct. We expect better from the leader of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Oh, the Tampa Bay Brady's I mean. And that's not all today, I have something to say about Shannon Sharpe's ridiculous comments about watermelons being used as a prop. Only 5 more weeks of this crazy 2020. Hope you enjoy, share and subscribe!

Episode 15: Jason Hehir and the making of "The Last Dance". Nov 24, 2020

Show notes

Join me and my good friend , Jason Hehir, 7 time Emmy Award winner for his documentaries including "The Last Dance" with Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls, as we talk about his career. You'll hear about the challenges of making a documentary like this, how it came to be the most viewed documentary in ESPN history and what other players had to say. Scotty Pippen, Karl Malone, Isaiah Thomas to name just a few. We also touch on his documentary about the Michigan Wolverines "The Fab Five" and how Chris Webber failed to participate after repeated efforts and even an acceptance to contribute but declined. His former teammates, like Jalen Rose, would love to have him clear the air regarding the incidents that took place while they all played together. This is one fabulous discussion I think you're going to really enjoy. I can certainly tell you I did. I look forward to your comments.

Grant's Rant: 11-24-20 He Wentz from bad to worse. Nov 24, 2020

Show notes

You got it. I'm talkin' about Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles. He's playing awful. Why is he still the quarterback? The team is bad and he may be the worst part of part of it. So Philly, if you want to win, you won't with Wentz. More on my rant today.
