Episode 43: Mike Wise, sports journalist, talks sports, cancel culture and political correctness. Mar 01, 2021

Show notes

He really is a "Wise" guy! Mike Wise shares his perspective and work on what he sees in the league today. How the NBA and other sports have changed with outside influence on what used to be the norm. We'll touch on Demarcus Cousins, Adam SIlver, Mark Cuban to name a few. National Anthem or no National Anthem at games? Is there a "right" or correct answer to all the racial influence in the NBA today? It's a very interesting conversation that is impacting us all. I think you're going to both enjoy and appreciate it.

Grant's Rant: 3-2-21 Steph Curry or Buddy Hield? Who would you choose? Mar 01, 2021

Show notes

So the highlight is that Buddy Hield has scored more three pointers faster than any other player. 1000. Cool right? Wrong. Who cares? The Kings had yet another meltdown in the last minute of the game against the Charlotte Hornets and lost again. They're on track to be the worst defensive team ever in the NBA. No, it's not all Buddy's fault, not at all, but this think about getting to 1000 threes faster than any other player, really? You tell me who you would rather have on your team that can shoot threes. Consistently. Regularly. Oh... and win games too.

Grant's Rant: 3-1-21 Russell Wilson sparks a mayoral feud. Mar 01, 2021

Show notes

Yeah, you read that right. Two mayors going at it over Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks. New Orleans Mayor, LaToya Cantrell fired off a tweet "recruiting" Wilson to her beloved New Orleans Saints. Is that even a legitimate thing to do? In any event, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan fired off a fabulous response that, well, would quite possibly be a move worth attempting. Hear what she said on my rant today.

Grant's Rant: 2-26-21 The Sacramento Kings defensive debacle. Feb 26, 2021

Show notes

So which team in the NBA scores 77 points in the first half and 63 in the second? Shoots 60% from the field and 50% on their threes? Gotta be one of the best offensive teams in the league to pull that off right? And sets a franchise record doing it too. Nope. That would be the lowly New York Knicks. The WORST offensive team in the NBA. But, they were playing the Sacramento Kings. Seems almost nobody on the team cares enough about playing defense, or even trying , simply to prevent the embarrassment. Utter humiliation.

Episode 42: Sticking up for what you believe in. Feb 26, 2021

Show notes

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent on things that matter." That's not my quote but the discussion I want to have today. Martin Luther King said it. And isn't it so true? If you're a public figure today every move has to be calculated. Everything you say has to be politically correct or you'll be cancelled by those who disagree. Isn't it time we just reached out to people different than we are and tried to understand where they're coming from? I share a story about a 39 year old African American woman I met in today's podcast. She has made an impact on my life and that story can repeat itself in any city with any person of any race at any time. I hope you appreciate what I'm saying today. It's impacting all of us.

Grant's Rant: 2-25-21 LeBron James gets it. You're paid to play, the best don't rest. Feb 25, 2021

Show notes

Load management they call it. It's the term for players getting paid to not do their job. That's right. Millions of dollars to sit on the bench and just take a break. Rest. What a crock of crap that is. Fans come to see healthy players do what they're supposed to do and that is play hard and win. Not to see their favorite player kickin' it on the bench while the team is getting beat since they're not out there. And how about once in a lifetime fans who can't afford multiple tickets bringing their kids to see that favorite player play and that's the night he decides, or he and the medical team decide it's a good night for a break. Rest. LeBron is who LeBron is arguably because he knows he's paid to play. Michael Jordan, same thing. These guys don't rest. They play. I've got a little more to say about it in today's rant but if you want to be the best in the game, let me tell you, the best don't rest.

Grants Rant: 2-24-21 Devin Booker NOT an All-Star? Feb 24, 2021

Show notes

First off, you know how I feel about the All-Start games even being played this year but that's beside the point. With only 12 picks and no Devin Booker from the Phoenix Suns, wow. And to top it off, how about those Sacramento Kings? 8 in a row and 127 points last night. That would be losses and points given, not made. Oh... it's a good rant today.

Episode 41: George Karl talks teams, players and philosophy. Feb 23, 2021

Show notes

Only 9 coaches have won over 1000 games and George Karl is one of them. Good company to be in. On todays podcast we talk about the Seattle Supersonics back in the day, the Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee bucks and of course, the Sacramento Kings. And that means DeMarcus Cousins too. We'll even talk a little about his perspective on the league and how things are getting done today. hint; he doesn't really like a lot of what he's seeing. This is a very candid and open conversation that takes in a direction that could make you uncomfortable. Don't miss it as we also have a few special elements for you today too.

Grant's Rant: 2-23-21 How many more games are the Sacramento Kings going to lose before fans demand a plan? Feb 23, 2021

Show notes

What has gone wrong with the Kings? Defense had improved for their winning streak and now, 7 consecutive losses and there is basically no defense... again. What's the plan to get this team fixed? Why is Buddy Hield starting? Why not Halyburton? Yeah, let's get into it. I'm not happy with what I see coming out to attempt to play. This is a horrible situation and something has to change for the better.

Grant's Rant: 2-22-21 Golden State's Draymond Green loses another one for the team. Feb 22, 2021

Show notes

Yeah, good job Draymond. You did it again. Steve Kerr keeps dreaming you may change, but last night against the Charlotte Hornets, it happened again and with only 2 pts needed, you may have cost the team the game. Your teammates must think it's cool as this keep happening with a poor outcome. Either that or you just don't seem to care. What is it? Listen to today's rant to find out.
