On Sunday Kaerem Abdul-Jabbar criticized Lebron James. Kareen said some of Lebron's acts were "embarrassing" and "beneath" him. 24 hours later Kareem went on Sirius XM radio and apologized for his remarks. Kareem said he didn't mean to criticize Lebron. Really? What did you intend to do then? What a joke!

Episode 157: A's Fans All Talk No Action Apr 05, 2022

Show notes

Oakland A's owner John Fisher has been taking a lot of flack for having such a low pay roll and trading away the team's best players. On today's episode I explore the role of owners and discuss what is exactly you want from your team's owner. To me it is very simple. An owner has a responsibility to put a good product on the field or court. John Fisher has done that. A's fans don't show up. The A's are near the bottom in attendance numbers every year, The die hard A's fans are very loyal, but there aren't enough of them. To me, Fisher has done his job. The A's have been very competitive during his tenure as owner and the fans have stayed away. What is an owner to do? It works both ways!

Grant's Rant: 4-4-22 Ben Simmons Embarrassment Apr 04, 2022

Show notes

Ben Simmons has filed a grievance to challenge the $20 million in salary withheld by the 76ers. So a guy doesn't need to show up for work and when he does he goes through the motions and gets kicked out of practice by Doc Rivers. Simmons didn't play in any games, was unprofessional and didn't live up to his terms of his contract. Now he wants his money? Embarrassing!

Episode 156: Walking Down Memory Lane Apr 01, 2022

Show notes

On today's podcast i talk about some of the amazing athletes I covered early in my career. The topic came to mind after a discussion on Listen App about Kurt Warner. I actually announced a game in Des Moines, Iowa when Warner was playing in the Arena League for the Iowa Barnstormers. Obviously, nobody knew that they were watching a guy that would be come a Pro Football Hall Of Famer. It got me thinking about some of the other big time athletes I covered in my career. I talk about some of the big time hockey players I announced in college and then share a story about bartending for the New York Rangers one night in Rye, NY. I look back on my career and I am truly blessed.

Grant's Rant: 4-1-22 MLB'S Dumb Extra Innings Rule Apr 01, 2022

Show notes

Welcome to April which means the start of Major league Baseball. It also means the continuation of a rule that I hate. Once again. extra inning games will begin with a runner on 2nd base. I hated it when the rule was first implemented and I still hate it! How about a compromise? Play 3 or 4 innings of extra innings the conventional way and if still tied go to runner on 2nd. I'd be ok with that at least!
