It’s the most wonderful time of year! It’s the time when Stephanie and I get together on Halloween to celebrate Christmas!

Thanks to Hallmark’s addition of 40 brand new holiday movies, the channel has decided to bust out the yuletide cheer in October. How else are we supposed to watch all the forlorn women wandering around the Christmas tree lot in winter white coats fall in love with the ruggedly handsome guys in red and black buffalo check jackets?

It just makes sense.

Although Stephanie and I base our recommendations on three sentence synopses and a cast roster we located on the website (CLICK HERE) and the Hallmark Christmas channel app (which you should download), it’s clear that the suits in the front office tossed some cash at this year’s selections

How do I know?

We go to ROME!
We go to New York!
We go Graceland (again)!
We go to Dollywood!

Fingers crossed that it’s a hard candy Christmas.

I was minority intrigued with their Sigh No More album, completely obsessed with their Babel album, and have lightly stalked lead singer Marcus Mumford for the better half of a decade.

It’s not weird. Everyone calm down. I do the same thing with Our Host Chris Harrison and Chris Pine.

It’s what I call being a TRUE fan.

’Tis the seasons my friends!

No, I’m not talking about Thanksgiving turkey or yuletide cheer. I’m talking about autumn and all of its amenities.

For some of you, it’s the invasion of pumpkin-spice infused things, including but not limited to: coffee, muffins, for some reason Oreos, hand sanitizers, candles, and Burt’s Bees chapstick.

For others, like me, autumn means we can break out the orange tea towels, scatter some leaves around decorative gourds, and finally fill the glass bowl on the coffee table with candy corn.

It also means that football season is here.

In this episode, Some Guy in Austin and I discuss football in pop culture. (You’ll understand why he and I are friends we you hear our first two topics.)

Between movies and a few TV episodes, we had a ton from which to choose. Although it was hard picking favorites, I’m sure you already know one of my guesses.

I’ll give you two hints. The first is Tim and the second is Riggins.

IHGB #134 -- Downton Abbey Oct 03, 2019

There’s a cold front rolling into Texas and we expect temperatures to dip into the high 80s any day now. But since it still feel like the surface of the sun outside, my friend Stephanie and I hightailed it to the movie theater to beat the heat.

What did we see? I’m glad you asked.

We saw Downton Abbey and it was everything I wanted it to be.

Was it a blockbuster hit that will break records? No. Was it super intense or full of mystery? Not at all. In a word, it was a delight. The gowns, the swelling musical score, and Lady Violet’s fantastic dialog.

It’s all there for you. Including the ghost of Matthew Crawley.

I’m sorry. That’s a lie. I shouldn’t joke about such things. It’s still hard for some of us to remember that devastating episode.

RIP Matthew.

It’s time for another “It’s a Love Story” episode and for some of you, this is a doozy. For others, you may be annoyed by all the laughing. And coughing.

You see, when I invited Mama to join me again on the show, she insisted on talking about The Sound of Music even though I told her it was more of a musical than a romance.

Instead of disowning me for suggesting such a thing, Mama got sick about an hour before we recorded, but she still wanted to go on. So she invited my sister Jamie to join us.

My mother hacks up a lung, my sister wheezes, and I sort of sing. What more could you want in a podcast? FYI: I’m going to apologize now for the cold open. But I won’t apologize for the closer.

It’s one of my favorite things.

Oh, and we also discuss the hot mess that is the movie version of the beloved stage musical CATS.

Does it took ridiculous? Yes.
Is it going to crash and burn? Probably so.
Will I be there opening weekend? You better believe it.

And I’ll be wearing my CATS t-shirt I purchased when I saw the musical in 1988. I’m sure it still fits.
