38. Praise to the Lord, the Almighty Aug 23, 2021

Show notes

Psalm 103:1

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name.

This hymn is a hymn of PRAISE taken straight from the PSALMS. We are so excited to bring this hymn to you all this week. The original German words were by Joachim Neander and we only know this hymn because of English translator Catherine Winkworth. She translated Neander's text almost 200 years after he wrote it.

This hymn has truly stood the test of time and has crossed languages and borders. Please sing along and let's praise our Lord, our Almighty King of Creation together.

37. By His Stripes We Are Healed Aug 16, 2021

Show notes

Stump the Twins! This hymn is definitely one that not only stumped us, but it seemed to stump the whole internet!

We could not find a recording of this hymn anywhere. We had never heard of it and were determined to bring light to this little-known hymn and honor the hymn writer, Thoro Harris, for his incredible contributions to church music.

This hymn came in as a request from the creator of A Hymn A Day, Ashley. She brought this hymn to our attention and we hope we did it justice. You can find Ashley on Instagram (@hymn.a.day) and on Facebook (A Hymn A Day). Follow her to get lovely, inspiring stories about the hymns EVERY DAY!

Thank you for listening to this episode on Thoro Harris. With the hundreds of hymns to his name, we will definitely be revisiting him in a future episode. Please reach out to us on social media or by email and let us know what your experience with the hymn is. Have you heard it before? We are so curious!

Thank you and God bless.

Keep singing!

Show notes

Psalm 51:7

... wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

We are diving into the hymn of confession this week, Whiter Than Snow, by James Nicholson and William Fischer. Inspired right from Psalm 51, this song is a beautiful prayer, a longing for cleansing and wholeness. We pray that this episode will be a blessing to you all.

These hymn writers' stories make us want to visit Philadelphia. What a city! Full of history and brotherly love... AND two very special churches, Wharton Wesley and St. George's, PLUS one very special cemetery.

35. The Eastern Gate Aug 02, 2021

Show notes

We love our friends on social media! This request came in from a Twitter follower and it's a totally BRAND NEW hymn for us. Could this be a new game of... Stump the Twins? You really stumped us with this one. Not only did we not know this song, but we had never heard of it nor the hymn writer.

Join us this week as we dive into the Eastern Gate. What is it? Where is it? What does it symbolize? What was the hymnwriter Isaiah Guyman Martin thinking when he wrote it?

Martin wrote several eschatalogical hymns and we just love talking about and singing about HEAVEN. At the end of the episode, sing along with us for a Name That Tune segment all about HEAVEN. Please let us know what heaven songs you'd like to hear in the future!

Soon and Very Soon.... we'll be singing hymns at the Eastern Gate. What a WONDERFUL thing to think about!

A loyal listener and friend of Hymn Talk Twin Talk requested the wonderful hymn for this week's episode. Thank you, Jill, for suggesting Love Lifted Me by James Rowe and Howard E Smith. We love this song!

We remember singing this song with its bouncy, playful rhythms at church. As children, we thought it was just a fun song to sing and sway to. All these years later, taking a close look at it for the podcast, we just fell in love with it all over again.

We hope you love it as much as we do. Please share the episode with your friends and consider leaving us a review on itunes. We would love more people to know about Hymn Talk Twin Talk.

31. Fill My Cup, Lord Jun 28, 2021

Show notes

Episode 31 is all about the beautiful song by Richard Blanchard - Fill My Cup, Lord. This came in as a hymn request from a very special person in our Hymn Talk Twin Talk family. Listen today to find out who this special person is!

God wanted this song to be written and Richard Blanchard himself said, "There have been a few moments in my life where things have come from God, there is no other way to explain them."

"Like the woman at the well, I was seeking...." Richard Blanchard's testimony is 100% relatable. We search for things that will satisfy and this song points us directly to God. Praise the Lord!
