Husker247 Podcast: Wrapping up 2023 and the offseason ahead Nov 29, 2023
    Show notes

Matt Rhule met with the Nebraska media to wrap up the 2023 season, so Husker247 convened to discuss some of the topics the head coach hit on during Wednesday’s press conference.

Conversation starts regarding possible changes on the staff. Now that it appears Tony White is returning for the 2024 season, where might we see some changes for what the Huskers have on staff? What about on offense or special teams?

Then there’s several players who earned their own topics of conversation. What do things look like if Isaac Gifford doesn’t return? Who is the biggest potential loss among those weighing their options? How does the linebacker picture look if John Bullock goes? What about at quarterback with Jeff Sims?

After a quick break the podcast hits on the portal. What to make of Rhule’s comments about quarterbacks? Also what type of quarterback does Nebraska need for the upcoming season? Then in general what other positions should be discussed internally and sought after in the portal?

Finally there’s more thoughts on the Grant Brix commitment and Carlon Jones decommitting, as well as how things shape up with the Early Signing Period just weeks away.

Also they debate what the offensive line looks like in the future and how all the pieces are coming together in the trenches, which could expedite Nebraska’s turnaround.

Husker247 HoopsCast: Perfect November but Creighton awaits Nov 28, 2023
    Show notes

Nebraska basketball is the lone undefeated team in the state as far as hoops go and the Huskers carry that into a Sunday showdown with Creighton.

But before we get there the Husker247 HoopsCast wants to dive into the Huskers most recent wins, the 7-0 start and just how real this team might before its biggest game of the year — a home matchup against its rival Creighton.

Conversation starts with Mike Schaefer and Brian Christopherson rehashing the Duquesne and Cal State Fullerton games, where the Huskers again showcased an ability to not just get to the free throw line but also knock those shots down.

The two also discussed how Jamarques Lawrence seems to be getting comfortable and that Keisei Tominaga is coming off his best game and seems to be in the flow of the offense without needing to force shots.

Then after a quick timeout the podcast returns to talk Creighton. How do the Huskers matchup? Who can play a big role in this game? Can Nebraska get Ryan Kalkbrenner out of sorts like it did last year? Will the Huskers be able to make timely shots?

Both Christopherson and Schaefer passed on making score predictions just yet, but each gave their early week feeling for how things might play out.

    Show notes

The Sunday Side Session concluded its 2023 season run with a Saturday podcast featuring Mike Schaefer and Gary Sharp discussing the end of Nebraska’s season, another familiar Big Ten loss and the fact the Huskers still haven’t played in a bowl game since 2024.

Things start on the offensive side of the ball where the discussion begins with a few a polarizing players that are expected to return in 2024.

What are the expectations for Jaylen Lloyd, who again emerged as a big play threat with his touchdown on Saturday? Are we confident in Teddy Prochazka at left tackle for the future? What role makes sense for Chubba Purdy based on these final two games?

Then the two hit on a few other items on offense, before transitioning over to defense and discussing what the Huskers have in front of them for the 2024 season and what it might look like for the Blackshirts.

Finally where are Schaefer and Sharp with Matt Rhule after the first season as Nebraska’s head coach? What stood out? What would they change? What changes are they expecting?

It’s a long podcast that touches on both what transpired these last few few months, but also what’s ahead for Rhule and the Huskers.

The Husker247 HoopsCast returned on Tuesday to discuss the big win in Sioux Falls, the sneaky big game on Wednesday night and the debut of the random Husker hooper of the week.

Things start where the Huskers left off following a demolition of Oregon State basketball. Mike Schaefer and Brian Christopherson weave through the game, how Brice Williams proved to be an effective scorer, Juwan Gary’s immediate contribution since getting back in the lineup, the reliability of Riek Mast and how this team continues to look like the deepest roster of the Fred Hoiberg era.

After some discussions about the game things kick forward into a look at what is next for Nebraska with Duquesne on Wednesday and how the Huskers matchup in general.

Could this be a breakout game for Keisei Tominaga, who has yet to have one of those 20-point scoring outbursts that he pulled together multiple of last February.
