Sunday Side Session: Thoughts about another game given away Nov 20, 2023
    Show notes

Because of a different travel schedule the Sunday Side Session is a day late and a guest short, but Mike Schaefer takes over the microphone and provides a quick run through of some left over thoughts form the Huskers 24-17 loss to Wisconsin on Saturday.

Schaefer gives thoughts on Chubba Purdy, Matt Rhule's clock management, special teams and much more.

    Husker247 HypeCast: Wisconsin Nov 16, 2023
    Show notes

Just two games left in the 2024 regular season which makes it the perfect time to get hyped for a Nebraska-Wisconsin matchup where the winner gets a bowl bid and to claim victory in the coaching hires of last offseason, while the loser faces a must win game against a hated rival on the final week of the season to salvage the year.

It’s good that there’s some stakes because the game might lack offense given how the teams have played. The Husker247 HypeCast doesn’t lack firepower, however, as The Athletic’s Mitch Sherman joins the show to talk about the Huskers and the upcoming matchup.

Things start on offense where the panel walks through Nebraska’s quarterback options for Saturday, what the Huskers have done up front, how things have worked out for Emmett Johnson and the value of this season for Nebraska’s freshmen receivers, even if the numbers haven’t gone way up.

Then it’s time for some defensive talk and what the Huskers have received from Tony White this season, what to make of Wisconsin’s different offensive attack after the past few seasons and where the Huskers improved against Maryland.

Finally it’s time for predictions. The oddly specific ones first then picks to click and finally game predictions. Did anyone think the Huskers could walk out of Camp Randall with bowl eligibility assured on Saturday night?

Husker247 HoopsCast: Welcome back Keisei Tominaga Nov 14, 2023
    Show notes

The Husker247 HoopsCast returned to action on Tuesday morning, breaking down everything that came out of the Huskers 64-50 win against Rider.

It was ugly on Monday, but the Huskers managed to slog through it, so too does Husker247, as it relays how the offense looked and a few takeaways from the contest.

Then a discussion ensues about playing time for Eli Rice, finding the right rotation when Juwan Gary comes back, how to get minutes for other players and Nebraska’s point guard situation.

The podcast also hits on what are fair expectations for Keisei Tominaga as a follow up from last year’s breakout and how he’ll need to develop chemistry with Nebraska’s front court like he did with Derrick Walker last year.

Husker247 Podcast: QBs, turnovers and play calling Nov 13, 2023
    Show notes

The Husker247 crew gathered on Monday to discuss thoughts on Saturday’s loss to Maryland and what Matt Rhule had to say on Monday at the press conference.

The pod starts with Michael Bruntz and Brian Christopherson giving thoughts on the game and what transpired in the 13-10 loss, as well as some of the strong performances that came out of it, including the offensive line and defensive players like Javin Wright.

Then they begin to debate what Rhule talked about on Monday with the quarterbacks, the turnovers, the third down play call and the future of offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield.

Finally things finish as there’s a discussion about which of the three quarterbacks get the start in Madison this weekend.

Sunday Side Session: More questions than answers after Maryland loss Nov 12, 2023
    Show notes

This week the Sunday Side Session booked its guest with a celebration in mind as the thought was the conversation around the Huskers should be about which bowl destination fans most want to see.

Now KLIN radio host Jack Mitchell and Husker247’s Mike Schaefer are left to debate if a bowl is even a possibility following yet another preventable loss, this time at the hands of Maryland, which beat the Huskers 13-10 on Saturday.

The show starts with a discussion about Saturday’s pivotal decision — calling a pass on third-and-goal with Chubba Purdy in the game and the Huskers in chip shot field goal range with just minutes remaining.

The two debate the play call and ultimately everything that led up to it, as well as where things sit with Nebraska’s offense following the use of all three quarterbacks in Saturday’s loss to Maryland.

There’s discussion about the defense as well and trying to figure out if these Huskers have one more Herculean effort in them to drag the fledgling offense over the proverbial finish line.

Finally things finish with a discussion about the remaining two games, Nebraska’s chances and just who should get the opportunity to start on Saturday against the equally confounding and possibly more putrid Wisconsin Badgers.

    Husker247 HypeCast: Maryland Nov 09, 2023
    Show notes

The Husker247 HypeCast returns following a stumble in East Lansing to get you fired up for Nebraska-Maryland on Saturday morning.

Joining the show is 1620 the Zone host John Bishop, who gives plenty of thoughts on the Huskers, as he makes his HypeCast debut.

The show starts on offense and of course that means some Heinrich Haarberg discussion, questions about the carry distribution at running back, thoughts about the offensive line play and a whole lot more.

Then there’s defense and we look at Nebraska’s pass rush and how the Huskers backend might hold up in a game with a lot of passing expected.

Finally it’s time for predictions — the oddly specific predictions, picks to click and score predictions. Who thinks Nebraska clinches a bowl birth and which guest sees more sadness on the horizon for the Huskers?

Husker247 HoopsCast: Welcome to the season Nov 07, 2023
    Show notes

Nebraska basketball rolled in its season opener against Lindenwood in a game that was never close. However what did the opening win mean? What should one take away from the Huskers start to the 2023-24 season? Let’s chat about it!

The Husker247 HoopsCast is a new podcast venture from Husker247 focused entirely on Nebrasketball and the Huskers push to get to postseason play this year and beyond.

The first episode focuses on Nebraska’s roster and how things could play out given the light non-conference schedule in front of the Huskers this season, as well as thoughts from finally seeing a number of players in action for the first time this year.

Where are Nebraska’s early strengths? What does it look like when players like Keisei Tominaga or Juwan Gary return to action? How deep can this lineup go? Just how good is Sam Hoiberg? What can we expect from C.J. Wilcher?

All those discussions and more mark the podcast that’s exclusively designed for you the die-hard Nebrasketball fan that’s been waiting for one shining moment, entirely too long.

Sunday Side Session: Not what Nebraska was looking for Nov 05, 2023
    Show notes

Nebraska football reminded its fans why there’s no real level of trust regarding the program and its ability to take care of business as the Huskers lost 20-17 on Saturday. However loyal listeners of the Sunday Side Session can trust there was plenty of discussion about the short-term and the long-term questions for this program.

This week on the show Big Red Wrap Up host Mike’l Severe joined Mike Schaefer as the two start the show with possibly the longest discussion about punting and punt returning in Husker247 podcast history.

From there, the two found their way into Nebraska’s offensive woes and other issues that popped up on Saturday as the Huskers struggled in some part of every phase of the game.

Following a quick timeout the two discussed Nebraska’s defense and if Michigan State exposed any real concerns for the final three games and if there’s an alternative to Heinrich Haarberg for the offense, as the quarterback has really struggled with turnovers during conference play.

Finally Severe gives thoughts on the upcoming game against Maryland and if the Huskers can find their way to bowl eligibility in front of a home crowd.

    Husker247 HypeCast: Michigan State Nov 02, 2023
    Show notes

Former Husker and current member of the game day broadcast team, Damon Benning, joins the Husker247 HypeCast ahead of the Michigan State game.

Conversation begins with a little chatter about Connor Stalions and Michigan before fully flipping over to Nebraska’s upcoming game against Michigan State.

Things start on offense where Benning provides his thoughts on what the Huskers have done up front with the changes because of injury and why there was no discernible drop-off from other offensive line iterations this season. Then there are questions about everything from the wide receivers to Emmett Johnson to what’s happening with punt returns.

Then on defense Benning explains why he was high on Jimari Butler coming into the week, as well as conversations about Ty Robinson and the rest of Nebraska’s defense, including their strong tackling.

After a quick timeout it’s time for predictions. First the oddly specific and then on to picks to click and game scores.

Did everyone pick Nebraska this week?
