    EP277: Sophia Hilton – A New Work Life Balance Mar 13, 2023
Show notes Today Im sharing a podcast that I recorded live at the Common Counter, London in 2022 with the one and only, Sophia Hilton.

This is an honest and open conversation with Sophia. It leaves no stone unturned. Sophia is to reveal her own personal challenges that she has encountered in both life and business in recent times. It was a period that she described as a ‘wild time’!

Sophia is now taking these experiences to help other people from all industries, sectors and businesses. And she is sharing many of these valuable learnings in this episode.

The newly crowned ‘International Hairdressing Influencer of the Year’, Sophia has just finished her sell out UK & Ireland events tour. In April she is set to launch ‘Leadership For a New Life’ online course, and has recently launched her Not Another Business podcast. She has done all of this whilst continuing to lead her Not Another Salon and educational businesses, creating social content and keeping to her ambassador role commitments. Whats fascinating though, Sophia’s being doing all of this by structuring it around what she calls her 421 system.

In the second half of this podcast, Sophia is to reveal her thoughts on understanding the generation gap and the changing culture in the industry. You need to stick around to hear this!

The openness, advice and strategies we discuss today are invaluable for all of us. You won’t want to miss this fantastic episode with one of the biggest names in the world of hairdressing, so tune in and enjoy Howtocutters!

EP275: Why Conor James Doyle is on a Mission to Change Education in the Hair Industry Feb 28, 2023
Show notes Championing a new era of hairdressing and the education that allows this, it’s fair to say that todays guest Conor James Doyle is on a mission to do just that!

Conor is back on the show for one heck of a chat. Its a chat that kicks-off learning about his metaphoric rise to becoming one of the industries top content creators with his six-figure following, right through to using his platform to research and open conversations on the neurodiverse needs within the industry, and how education has to change to fulfil these needs.

We go deep in to all of this, and lots more!

We get to hear how during lockdown, Conor lost all his business and he turned to his social media following and embraced real conversations. This brought an opportunity to make people laugh, creating connections of light in a time of darkness. But he also reveals why social media has become a love hate relationship for him.

Dismantling the toxic narrative around hairdressing has become the ethos of Conor’s education and business today. Respect for the industry’s heritage combined with a determination to make fundamental changes for the future, Conor James Doyle is at the core of driving these changes.

If you’re curious to know what this all means, listen in on this episode to fully understand! Enjoy!

EP274: Meet Dr.Syed, the Master Chemist whose ethos is The Science of Hair and Scalp Care Feb 20, 2023
Show notes A podcast episode sponsored by Uberliss.

Today I am honoured to be speaking with Dr. Syed, the Master Chemist whose mission is to develop the World’s most advanced formulas for hair by using the most cutting-edge methods available in the sciences.

Dr. Syed founded Avlon Industries, Inc. in 1984. His winning strategy for formulating Avlon brands is to use ingredients that have a positive effect upon hair and skin. With the drive and personality to fight for the best formula possible, Dr. Syed’s mindset is to accomplish something which hasn’t been accomplished before. That leads us nicely into the Uberliss Bond System.

A patented bonding system suitable for all hair types, I want to get behind the Uberliss Bond System in this podcast conversation. Like what makes Uberliss different from other bond treatments, and what are the big benefits the Uberliss Bond System brings to our clients and salon businesses.

As a world authority in the textured hair sector and next year Avlon will celebrate 40 years as a company, we now see Uberliss, a patented bonding system entering into the bond market. So I’m keen to also find out from Dr. Syed on why enter the bond market and introduce a brand for all hair types?

With an abiding affinity for chemistry, Dr. Syed personally supervises every project undertaken by Avlon’s Research & Development Center. Equal to his regard for chemistry, is the respect he holds for the professional hairstylist. Always positive towards ideas and opinion of stylists, Dr. Syed is to deliver a hair science masterclass the will keep you locked in.

From Nano lipids such as Phytosterols and Ceramides to the Patented Uberliss Bond sub-micron technology, this is required listening for every hair professional serious about the hair and scalp care of their clients. Press play!

EP272: Making a Difference through Business – The Voice of a CEO Feb 06, 2023
Show notes A podcast episode sponsored by Denman Professional

Having company CEO’s on the How To Cut It podcast are important! Hearing the human side of a company and what they stand for, allows us to connect with them on a much deeper level. People like to engage with other people, not companies!

In our new collaborative podcast series for 2023 with Denman Professional, I’m sitting down for a conversation with the brands CEO, Kevin McNamee. In this conversation we get an inside look to the iconic Denman brand to understand how it operates, and why it’s viewed as a truly caring company.

A British and family-owned business, Denman haves a really robust Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR) strategy. Its uplifting to hear how a company is taking such a positive approach to its CSR, so I had to record a podcast episode to learn all about this. We learn stuff like the many projects Denman are supporting and how they are actively seeking a ‘root to branch’ approach to hairdressing.

Later in to the podcast we also get an exclusive on the Denman Stage Star 2023 competition. Be sure to stick around for this!

It matters that the professional tools that you both use and recommend to your clients comes from a company thats stands for the right values. A company that takes an interest in wider social issues, rather than just those that impact their profit margins. Sharing these values can only be a positive thing for us all. Enjoy!

EP270: Why be a Young Salon Owner! with Luke Hawkins Jan 16, 2023
Show notes Are you a young hairdresser who one day dreams of being a salon owner? If you answer yes to this question, then this podcast has your name on it. Our conversation today is with 24 year old salon owner and educator Luke Hawkins and he’s giving us an insight into what life looks like as a young salon owner.

For many hairdressers being a salon owner can be their ultimate career goal. But is it all that it’s cracked up to be?

Theres no denying it is difficult out there right now for salon owners. Staff shortages, cost of living crisis, high rents just to name a few of the growing challenges salon owners face in 2023! All of these on the back of pandemic and lockdowns that left many salons fighting for their sheer survival . So why do so many still want to be a salon owner?

Thats one of the first questions I want to ask Luke in todays episode. Luke will reveal his experiences, including how his salon had to cope with the pandemic lockdown during it’s very early days of opening.

As we go deeper into the podcast we also get to hear why Luke is happy to describe himself as a non-award winning hairdresser. He has some big opinions on this that you may or may not agree with. And being an educator too, specialising in teaching commercial haircuts, I just had to learn more on why the hair industry needs more educators like Luke. Its a conversation I know you’ll enjoy!

Let’s go to it Howtocutters’! Hit Play!
