EP285: The Most Game-Changing Addition to the Salon Since the Hairdryer, Introducing YUV May 05, 2023
Show notes A podcast episode sponsored by YUV

The most game-changing addition to the salon since the hairdryer, introducing YUV.

    Big claim, eh?

Well in this latest episode of our brand new four part collaborative podcast series with YUV, I’m excited to be invited to discuss a revolutionary new colour system for the hair industry thats never been seen before.

I’m to be joined by Marketing Manager for YUV, Rachel Lee, and Zoey Olechnowicz who serves as Senior Colour Educator at YUV, where we’ll be exploring what YUV is and what it can offer salons and freelancers, including how the YUV colour lab can dispense millions of colour shade tones and how it looks and works. We’ll also discuss the range of colours that YUV can create, and why the hair industry needs a system like YUV.

One of the most exciting aspects of YUV is its sustainable closed loop system, which we’ll delve into and explain how it works. We’ll also explore how many colour canisters a salon needs to hold using yuv and the colour ingredients used in YUV.

We’ll also dive into the performance of the products, and how YUV eliminates the need for shade charts by allowing you to create your own custom colour shade palettes.

Another key benefit of YUV is its ability to remove colour wastage, and we’ll hear from Rachel and Zoey on how this will be achieved. And what about the cost of YUV and what you get for your investment? We cover that, too!

This is a big listen! Enjoy!

EP283: No More Fear to Scalp Bleaching with Sarah Keane, aka SLK Bleach Expert Apr 24, 2023
Show notes In this episode of the HTCI podcast, I’m thrilled to have Sarah Keane, aka SLK Bleach Expert, join us to discuss all things scalp bleaching.

As the only UK-based educator whose sole focus is scalp bleaching, Sarah is a wealth of knowledge on the topic. In our conversation, we explore the common fears and myths surrounding scalp bleaching, the lack of education on the topic for many hairdressers, and Sarah’s own journey to becoming a scalp bleach specialist.

Sarah emphasises the importance of knowledge and education in overcoming the fear associated with scalp bleaching. “Once you have the knowledge behind why you would do it a specific way/how to assess suitability, etc., the skill will naturally improve, lessening the fear,” she explains. Building confidence with the service is crucial, and the more knowledge hairdressers have, the better their understanding, leading to better results.

Sarah’s approach to teaching has helped hairdressers with over 20 years of experience who had never done a scalp bleach before. Now, they are building up a return clientele.

As Sarah likes to say, “practice means progress.”With the right knowledge and practice, stylists can improve their scalp bleaching skills and provide excellent service to their clients. The results that Sarah’s students achieve are a true testament to this. It’s a fascinating conversation that any hairdresser looking to expand their knowledge on scalp bleaching won’t want to miss.

Its a perfect listen for all hair colourists! Let’s dive in!

EP281: Mentoring and Growing Freelancers – The New Way of Working with Ricky Walters Apr 11, 2023
    Show notes

In todays episode we’re exploring a brand new way of working that’s taking the best of both employment and freelance work and blending them together. Sounds interesting, right? Let’s dive in!

For this episode, we have brought back onto the show Ricky Walters, founder of the head turning SALON64 in Soho.

Ricky is never afraid of breaking from tradition and coming up with original ideas. Something he is continually doing at SALON64. He is passionate about finding ways to combine the benefits of full-time employment and freelance work, and he believes that mentoring and growing is an essential part of making it work.

For years, the only option was to become an employed assistant, hoping to grow into an employed hairdresser while building a client base. But now, some hairdressers are taking an innovative approach and pursuing freelance work instead. By doing something different, they can work on their own terms and explore new creative avenues, while building their reputation.

But Ricky is to reveal in our conversation on why freelancers are discovering they’re not quite as ‘free’ as they had first thought. Also he shares on when meeting and speaking with the freelance community he learned one of the main struggles and something they felt missing as a freelancer is a lack of a mentor. They were crying out for a mentorship style of working to motivate, inspire and drive results.

Thats why SALON64 has created a brand new role by taking all the benefits of being employed, and the benefits of being freelance and blending them into the next age and the future of hairdressing. A future of providing mentoring and growing individuals.

So, if you’re looking for a new way of working that offers the best of both worlds, why not consider this brand new way of working? And remember, mentoring and growing is an essential part of making it work. Enjoy!

EP278: What’s Holding You Back? Fear of Not Being Good Enough!? Mar 20, 2023
Show notes You think you’re not good enough! Is this what’s holding you back from doing something new? If that rings true for you, then we have similar traits.

Back in 2014 my love for podcasts began. It was listening to these podcasts that put the seed of thought into me head on producing my very own podcast? Craziness, I can’t do this! Fear and self-doubt was to hold me back from creating a podcast. I’m not good enough! I don’t have the right skills… blah blah blah!

It took me another three years of researching that finally give me the confidence to pluck up the courage and launch the podcast show that you hear today.

On March 18th 2017 the How To Cut It in the Hairdressing Industry podcast was recorded and published. It’s fair to say it’s proably one of the best decisions I have ever made. Thats why we must fight our way through them fears thats holding us back from change. A change that could light up your life and help you reach them dream goals of yours.

Today, I’ll share that story that finally led me to no longer holding back on something that was way outside my comfort zone. I will also reveal how the forthcoming launch of a new project has returned them same old fears of mine. I’m again asking myself, “Am I good enough”!?

If your struggling with them same fears thats holding you back in your hairdressing and barbering career, listen in on this episode. You are going to hear how the soon to launch PLATFORM from How To Cut It is going to help you ‘grow beyond’ in your hairdressing and barbering careers.

    Howtocutter’s, let’s go to it!
