    Rebecca (1940) Oct 14, 2020
    Show notes

Last night, we dreamt we went to Manderley again, but today we're actually going there! We're going to be discussing lesbian housekeepers and spousal abuse in Alfred Hitchcock's only Best Picture-winning film: Rebecca!

Join us as we discuss all the drama behind the tense relationship between Hitch and producer David O. Selznick before looking at how the Hays Code affected the film (bye bye, Maxim the Murderer!). Plus, a queer reading of the villainous housekeeper Mrs. Danvers and how she may be a reflection of Rebecca author Daphne du Maurier's internalized homophobia.

Also, why does Maxim suck so much? How does Rebecca, a character we never see, make such a huge impression? And is Mrs Danvers actually a tragic figure?

    Micro Queers: Tonight, It's You (2016) Oct 09, 2020
    Show notes

It's time for another outing of Micro Queers! This week we're discussing Dominic Haxton's short Tonight, It's You (click the link to view the 17-minute-long short), which is a bad hook-up story between two men set in the Mid-West that has inspired polarizing reactions from audiences.

Click the link to watch Tonight, It's Me, Haxton's 2014 short with frequent collaborator Jake Robbins, which is considered a spiritual predecessor.

The Final Girls (2015) feat. Jenn Adams Oct 07, 2020
    Show notes

This week on the podcast, we're escaping into the movies (literally) to revisit queer screenwriters M.A. Fortin & Joshua John Miller's meta horror comedy The Final Girls. Joining us at Camp Bloodbath is Jenn Adams, co-host of Psycho Analysis Podcast and The Losers Club Podcast, who has a deep appreciation for the film's emotional beats.

We spend plenty of time unpacking this comfort horror film, particularly the mother/daughter relationship between Malin Akerman and Trace's fave, Taissa Farmiga, and Vicki (Nina Dobrev)'s redemptive arc.

Plus: disagreements over Adam Devine and Thomas Middleditch's humor, getting sidetracked talking about everyone's filmography and the apex of Joe's inability to pronounce names correctly.

    Show notes

We're back with another outing of Micro Queers, and this week we're discussing Dean Puckett's short The Sermon (click the link to view the 10-minute-long short), which is a folk horror tale about young woman’s secret that rocks an isolated church community.

The Vampire Lovers (1970) feat. Mary Beth McAndrews Sep 30, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's episode, we're making our first foray into Hammer Horror with a journey to 19th century Styria in Roy Ward Baker's The Vampire Lovers. Joining us for the discussion is Scarred for Life co-host Mary Beth McAndrews, who brings her own passion for vampires to the episode.

After a brief crash course on Hammer Horror, we'll laud the performances of Ingrid Pitt as the thrice-named anti-heroic vampire Marcilla/Carmilla/Mircalla, marvel at the unusual vampire lore (shrouds?!), and lament the lack of any interesting male characters (though that is undoubtedly the point).

Plus, Mary Beth leads us in a frank discussion of bisexuality and the vampire sub-genre's relationship to it, which isn't too shocking considering this film is sexy af.

Showgirls (1995) feat. Nay Bever Sep 23, 2020
    Show notes

This week on the pod, we're celebrating the 25th anniversary of (decidedly NOT a horror film) Showgirls. Along for the road trip to Vegas is Attack of the Queerwolf co-host Nay Bever, who delivers both laughs and insightful commentary.

This probably isn't the episode you're expecting: sure we poke fun at the film's ridiculous elements, but we spend most of our time discussing the film's many terrible men, analyze the success of the film's satire, question who the film's intended audience is and deconstruct the implications of the controversial rape scene.

It's not all serious though. Expect talk of titties, diva worship of both Gershon and Berkley and a laugh or two about the stage production of Goddess.
