Basic Instinct (1992) feat. The Queer Quadrant Oct 05, 2022
    Show notes

Check under the bed for ice picks because we're tackling Paul Verhoeven and Joe Eszterhas' notorious 1992 Erotic Thriller/neo-noir, Basic Instinct. Along for trips to the gay bar and the beach house are Brooke Solomon and Jordan Gustafson from The Queer Quadrant podcast, who provide a very welcome bisexual perspective in a film accused of biphobia and misogyny.

Plus: our obsession with the sequel Risk Addiction, ties to The Silence of the Lambs and Cruising, cocaine and cum, Catherine (and Sharon Stone) as a queer icon, a stacked cast of male character actors, and why you can't wear a sweater to the gay bar!

A Chucky Extravaganza! feat. Don Mancini Sep 28, 2022
    Show notes

Sorry, Jack...Chucky's back! With the second season of Chucky premiering on SyFy next week, we thought we'd take a look back at the franchise that spawned the successful television series. And who better to walk us through memory lane than the creator of the franchise himself: Don Mancini!

Join us as we do a deep dive into the franchise with Mancini (specifically the entries from Bride of Chucky and onward), covering all manner of topics like, oh, we don't know, turning one of the biggest horror franchises into a super queer empowerment story?

We discuss things like "too much Jennifer Tilly" (what?!), the return of Glen/Glenda (and why they've been absent from the franchise for almost 20 years), retcons, Britney Spears, Katherine Heigl and how Hannibal paved the way for the Chucky series. Not watching Chucky? Chucky says "move your ass" and hop to it!

    Show notes

Our Micro Queers short this month is Crush (2018), written and directed by Heather Harris (click here to view the 14-minute-long short). The short sees former writer Greyson Michaelson (Kat Fairaway) being contacted by the Suicide Survivors Association to write a speech and she uses the opportunity to move beyond her painful past. However as she becomes consumed by her writing, she discovers a new, darker side to her girlfriend (Paige Herschell) and, ultimately, herself.

Suspiria (2018) feat. Ari Drew Sep 21, 2022
    Show notes

Prepare your red rope costume and spread open that chest vagina because we're heading to divided Berlin in 1977 to discuss Luca Guadagnino's remake of Dario Argento's classic horror film Suspiria! Joining us for the conversation is Trace's better half Ari Drew, who is cashing in his annual guest spot ticket!

Join us as we go all in on the film's disastrous release strategy before providing a crash course on the film's historical context that absolutely enriches the dense and layered text. Then we'll offer up a plethora of different interpretations of the film's themes and plot developments.

Plus: our thoughts on Argento's original film, juicy matriarchs with baby arms, Volk, Tilda's triple threat and...lots of Disney connections (specifically Hercules and Sleeping Beauty)???

The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program: Night at Howling House Sep 15, 2022
    Show notes

Here's a taster of the latest series from The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program entitled "Night at Howling House." The pod hails from our guest Cat Blackard (recently heard on 'The Lighthouse').

If you like what you hear, check out https://cthulhumystery.com/ or listen anywhere you get podcasts.

    Here's the description:

The lazy days of summer are at an end and school is about to begin... but for five Arkham youths, reading, writing, and 'rithmetic is the least of their worries. They're spending the night in a notorious abandoned house and local legends say no one has ever lived to tell the tale.

Of course, no sane schoolkid would dare to trespass in Howling House, but twelve-year-old Tenderfoot, Tommy "Woods" Northwood, his precocious kid sister Chelsea, and a forlorn little boy known only as "Dirt" don't have a choice. Roger Simmons, the neighborhood bully, and his protégé, Joey Davenport, have the leverage and pugilistic prowess to make a very convincing argument.

Will they survive to see the sunrise, or is there something sinister waiting for them in that decrepit domicile?
