HMSG Interview with Chris Regan of Paintball Massacre! Apr 10, 2021

Show notes

We were thrilled to chat with friend of the podcast Chris Regan about his new film PAINTBALL MASSACRE (2020). It's perfect that life would imitate art in this case as the premise for the film is a reunion of old school friends - as Chris met your hosts Julia and Teri while students at the University of East Anglia years ago! We are grateful it was just for a chat about his film and book projects and not a massacre!

We hope you enjoy this conversation and be sure to check out the film and then give our episode on Paintball Massacre a listen here!

Horrors of Malformed Men - "Have I Gone Insane."

A father's pursuit for revenge fuels the ultimate family betrayal in HORRORS OF MALFORMED MEN (1969). We follow the son as he tries to uncover his identity through a series of wrong turns, graveyards, and a creepy island that would only rival Dr. Moreau's.

Written and directed by Teruo Ishii this is classic art house Japanese horror that felt very reminiscent of another favorite director of ours - Jodorowsky.

We hope you enjoy this fresh episode!

Paintball Massacre - "It was just school."

We love any excuse to take a trip over the pond to jolly old England...it's even better to go on that journey with friends...as long as there isn't a real life old school chum maybe out on the loose trying to kill you all. PAINTBALL MASSACRE (2020) follows a group of old friends as they meet up for a school reunion with the promise of a fun game of paintball to culminate the festivities. What could go wrong...?

Kudos to our friend Chris Regan the writer of this horror comedy flick! Lookout for our interview with him talking about the genesis of this project and the pivotal influence of the FAST & FURIOUS franchise on this film!

Josh Stafford is co-owner and geek-in-chief of the Mayfair Theatre in Ottawa, a classic single-screen independent cinema that opened in 1932. He co-hosts the popular weekly Mayfair Theatre Podcast, which passed 300 episodes at the end of 2020.

He is also the writer of Zomkeys, which has 3 issues of self contained stories published from Winter Star Comics. He had a story (co-written by Howard Wong) published in Hogtown Horror, and a story included in the digital anthology Strange Romance. He also wrote the DC Super Hero Girls episode titled #FlashForwardFlashBack. Current comic book projects includes the story Red Giant in the anthology Flip, Volume 2, and the five issue horror miniseries Damned Cursed Children (co-written by Howard Wong), published by Source Point Press.

Josh chose a fantastic Canadian horror flick, that neither Julia or Teri had seen, called Ginger Snaps (2000). It's the coming of age story of two death-obsessed sisters who have to deal with more than just puberty...when one of the sisters, the red-headed one aptly named Ginger, gets bitten by a werewolf. Will she snap or can the sisters survive!?

We are thrilled to have Josh on our show, and are proud to help shout out his wonderful theater, comics and podcast!
