    Horror Movie Survival Guide

Horror Movie Survival Guide is a weekly podcast where two long time chums (and unlikely gorehounds) watch and talk about horror films from a survival point of view. We ask the question – how can *we* end up as the final girl? Join Julia Marchese and Teri Gamble as we take a deep dive into everything from OG horror to newly released films (but preferably classics on VHS). We’ll talk about obscure details that no one else notices, spin off into alternate casting universes, crush on some foxy, dodgy fellows (and creepy uncles), and arm ourselves with the knowledge necessary to become The Final Girl!

HMSG Interview with Bradford Nordeen! - "Blood Diner" Dec 07, 2020
    Show notes

We love how horror brings people together and bonds us through shared experiences and ideas - so we jumped at the chance to interview friend of the podcast BRADFORD NORDEEN about his new book Because Horror.
His new new book, Because Horror, with co-author Johnny Ray Huston, is a collection of 13 essays (incl. one poem) that mixes critical writing and memoir to explore horror movies and how they haunt memory. Bringing the glee of fandom into cinema scholarship, Because Horror promiscuously sways through titles like Messiah of Evil, Pulse, Mandy, Dante’s Cove and Scre4m, with prose that spreads sticky like louche gore over the history of a genre and its mutating sites of broadcast.
We took a deep dive discussing the topic of one of Bradford's essays - the film BLOOD DINER (1987)! What a romp this one is - if you haven't watched it yet - please do & then listen in on the conversation!

Vampires vs. the Bronx follows a group of young friends as they fight to save their neighborhood from gentrification...and vampires. Filled with lore and head nods to so many genre flicks that have come before it this was a fun romp.

Audition "Everybody in Japan is lonely" Nov 23, 2020
    Show notes

Takashi Miike's insane 1999 film AUDITION builds slow, but ramps up to a fever pitch of WTF insanity, living up to its cult classic status as one of the most messed up horror films of all time. Not for the faint of heart, but a beautifully made film.

    We hope you enjoy Audition!

Cemetery Man (Dellamorte Dellamore) "He's only eating me" Oct 26, 2020
    Show notes

To celebrate Halloween, we chose this cult classic, which stars Rupert Everett as the laconic nightwatchman of a cemetery where the dead are returning to life, but it's no big deal. Just part of the job. Part hell yeah, part what the fuck, and part ewww, this movie covers all the horror bases and has fun doing it!

We hope you enjoy Cemetery Man!

    Knife + Heart "Homocidal" Oct 12, 2020
    Show notes

This super stylish film takes place in the gay porno scene in Paris in 1979 when an unexpectedly kinky killer is on the loose and looking for young, handsome victims. Unpredictable, artsy and sexy, this film gets bonus points for being centered around actual *film* as well!
