HS 341 - FBF – Our Dying Planet with Marine Ecologist Peter Sale Sep 01, 2017
    Show notes

This week's Flash Back Friday takes us to Episode 68 from January 2012.

As we embark on the mysterious journey through 2012, many things remain uncertain in our lives, i.e. the economy, employment, our political future. But one thing is certain – our planet needs some TLC. Join Jason Hartman as he interviews Peter Sale, author of Our Dying Planet, concerning the fragile ecosystem we live in and how we can successfully change the future for our children and grandchildren with a change in attitude. Peter says our planet does not have to die. We can avert the looming disaster if we act soon. Peter talks about many of today's pressing environmental issues, including biodiversity loss, population growth, deforestation, fossil fuels, and climate change. Peter discusses how some ecosystems, such as the coral reefs, are extremely close to extinction through human irresponsibility. He also talks about new diseases and new species of pests, unrest and strife throughout the world, and the growing economic problems surrounding the resources the world population depends upon for survival. He states that the solutions to all of these problems are economically feasible, but people must have a change of heart and take action now.

Peter Sale is a marine ecologist, with a Masters from the University of Toronto and also educated at the University of Hawaii. Peter has seen firsthand the destruction of the coral reefs. His work is focused primarily on reef fish ecology and on management of the coral reefs. He has conducted research in Hawaii, Australia, the Caribbean, and the Middle East, as well as many reefs in between. He has successfully developed and guided projects in international development and sustainable coastal marine management in the Caribbean and Indo-Pacific. Peter has been a faculty member at University of Sydney, Australia, University of New Hampshire, and University of Windsor, Canada. He is currently the Assistant Director of the Institute for Water, Environment and Health at the United Nations University, based in Hamilton, Ontario. In Peter's book, Our Dying Planet, he makes the argument that the complex and very serious problem of our global environmental crisis can be solved, has to be solved, and must be solved soon.

HS 340 - Bitcoin, Blockchain, and the Sharing Economy with Andrew Baker Aug 31, 2017
    Show notes

Jason welcomes income property investor Andrew Baker back to the show to chat about historical data, the future and all things financial. Capitalism is the economic driver in the US and it affords Americans with freedoms and abundances rarely available in other nations. It has allowed the sharing economy to blossom, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin to exist and the blockchain algorithm to reinvent financial transactions. But, the government is vying to control the money supply. As history shows us again and again, investors should never bet against the Fed and should invest in the most historically proven asset class, the single family home.

    Key Takeaways:

[03:55] The human brain is a cognitive miser.

[07:18] Examples of why good RV ratios are essential when buying income properties.

[16:10] The US truly is a land of abundance and we should appreciate our standard of living.

[20:51] Jason plays a Mark Steyn clip from his book After America.

[25:06] Jason comments on the clips reference to the European lifestyle as compared to a US lifestyle.

[33:01] The 'Thought Police' include companies such as Google, Airbnb, Facebook and big media outlets.

[37:44] The sharing economy is taking all the unused resources and putting them to work.

[43:44] Governments and central banks will never give up control of international money supply.

[47:17] Geography is less important than it has ever been in at any other time in human history.

    Show notes

Today's Flash Back Friday takes us back to Episode 77 from February 2012.

Astrologer Linda Schurman feels 2012 is going to be a rough year for all people around the world due to physical and psychological conditions and events, based on a number of configurations. Join Jason Hartman as he interviews Linda, editor and publisher of Soothesayer newsletter and author of What Next? A Survival Guide to the 21st Century, about her predictions for the year and beyond. Linda discusses government overreach with the National Defense Authorization Act, SOPA, and PIPA, our outrageous national debt that is owed to so many countries around the world, the involvement of major financial institutions in governments worldwide, such as Goldman Sachs, the systematic retraction of our constitutional rights, current and upcoming unemployment figures, the demise of the dollar, and a lengthy depression. She also touches on climatic extremes and an increase in earthquakes and volcanic activity around the world, as well as the possibility for a real water crisis. For more details, listen at: www.HolisticSurvival.com. Jason and Linda also talk about the distinct differences in commodity investments, such as precious metals and real estate versus derivatives and hedge funds, the inevitable encroachment of inflation with the printing presses running overtime, spewing out more and more worthless bills, and the effect of the government's reaction to our economic crisis. Linda feels that the states will begin taking over legal matters, reinstating state rights.

Linda expresses concern about the U.S. involvement with Iran, feeling it is a very dangerous situation. She feels that the Occupy Wall Street Movement will become more cohesive and perhaps form a third political party. She discusses the real possibility for multitudes of emergencies, whether water shortages, earthquakes, glacial melting and the rise of oceans, and advises people to be prepared. But she also feels there will be breakthroughs in energy sources and health during this tumultuous time. Linda's book, What Next? calls for action by humanity to stop the insanity of corruption, greed, war, and waste and misuse of resources and human life.
