Expect That Worship Requires A Sacrifice

Genesis 22:5-6

Hebrews 13:15

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.(NLT)

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose.”

Romans 12:1

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship.

Expect God Can Get Outside The Box

Genesis 22:5

…Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther.

We will worship there, and then we will come right back.”

Hebrews 11:17-19

It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, 18 even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” 19 Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again…(NLT)

Expect There Will Be Some Tests

Genesis 22:1-3
Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God
called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” 2 “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” (NLT)

Genesis 22:2
“Take your son, your only son-yes, Isaac, whom you love so much…

THIS IS THE FATHER TEST!

Genesis 22:16-18
…Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that 17 I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants…Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. 18 And…all the nations of the earth will be blessed…”(NLT)

God is not testing you to torture you. God is testing you to teach you.

Expect Limited Communication During The Test

Genesis 22:2-3
…Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you. 3 ”The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. (NLT)

The Teacher Never Talks During The Test!

THIS WAS A TRUST TEST!

Faith does not demand an explanation. Faith rests in the promise!

Expect It Will Take Some Time

On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw
the place in the distance.

THIS WAS A TIMED TEST

It takes time to be excellent!

Model Purity

1 Thessalonians 4:1-8
Finally,… we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. 2 For you remember what we taught you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. 3 God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. 4 Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor— 5 not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways… 7 God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. 8 Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God….(NLT)

The lazy person claims, “There’s a lion out there! If I go outside, I

Organized people are just too lazy to look for things!

“Why make your bed when you are just going to get in again.”

When you get excited about cancelled plans.

2 Thessalonians 3:6-15
…stay away from all believers who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they received from us…. 14 Take note of those who refuse to obey what we say in this letter. Stay away from them so they will be ashamed. 15 Don’t think of them as enemies, but warn them as you would a brother or sister.(NLT)

1 Thessalonians 4:1
…Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business…

2 Thessalonians 3:11 Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business… 1 Tim. 5:13 And if they are on the list, they will learn to be lazy and will spend their time gossiping from house to house, meddling in other people’s business and talking about things they shouldn’t.(NLT)

If we don’t align ourselves properly, we will drift away.

Ephesians 5:15-16
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.

Intentionality is the opposite of drift.

Philippians 3:13
No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

People don’t drift from God because of bad intentions, it’s because of no intentions.
