Book Review: 'Why Does He Do That? Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men' Mar 29, 2025

The first installment in the "Low Pressure Book Club Series" is a review of 'Why Does He Do That?' by Lundy Bancroft. Packed with helpful lists of warning signs, debunked excuses, and key signs of abuse, this book was written to provide insight into the minds of men who don't respect their partners. Throughout, I work to explain unacceptable behaviors by comparing them to similar ones displayed by men on Bravo. The author relies on his 30+ years of counseling men to identify contributing factors and presents a path to change that relies solely on the angry man reaching a point where that anger no longer serves him.

Unfortunately, this review begins by discussing recently shared allegations by several women that say Lundy weaponized that same extensive counseling experience to prey upon their vulnerabilities. As a result, a book that presents a thesis that abusers are made, not born, now serves as a helpful guide in more ways than its author intended.

Recap: RHOBH Finale Part 1, S14E17 - A Caribbean Send Off Mar 27, 2025

This extended finale required a two-part recap. We pick up on Sutton's trial at sea and shift into birthday dinner gear for Erika and Dorit. Sutton's delayed appearance, and hesitance to join, is a topic of conversation as Jennifer Tilly tries in vain to help her friend navigate a situation that neither feel like she can win. Garcelle finally approaches Kyle about not sticking up for Sutton, but her choice to teach Sutton a lesson by also not standing up for her on the boat leaves that critique falling flat. Meanwhile, Dorit and Erika continue to be the two off-base friends nodding and telling each other "exactly" as Boz works to connect with Sutton while appearing to lean further and further into clique territory. Kathy's all out of F's to give this episode, giving me the giggles and starting a new ice bag accessory trend.

The purpose of this new spin-off pod is to look back at the week and review the most horrifying and cringe-worthy political moves and blunders from America’s Broligarchy era. Much of it is serious but some of it is absolute idiocy, either way, the hope is that you walk away knowing more about current political events after listening. There's never a dull day in the Broligarchy but the past week was one for the history books. Between the move to begin dismantling the Department of Education after selling Tesla's on the White House lawn, to seeing prestigious law firms acquiesce, then hearing about for-profit detention center horror stories, listening to a leaked audio that's allegedly of the VP, and then learning about an unbelievably massive security breach via cell phone, all while a once-bold billionaire does his best Ruprecht character work, it's been a doozy.

The trip to Saint Lucia kicks off with a confrontational dinner, followed by a confrontational catamaran ride. The close friendship between Garcelle and Sutton is tested throughout as Garcelle bristles seeing Sutton defend Kyle and ultimately decides to let Sutton stand alone when fielding critiques. Jennifer Tilly and Kathy continue to bring levity even if it's questionable whether Kathy knows who Jennifer is. Erika makes a point of airing both new and old grievances towards Sutton throughout the episode and Boze finally gets the chance to observe Dorit in action.

Boze has her new man over for dinner with her daughter, Sutton and Garcelle discuss the ongoing rift with Dorit, Erika continues to make off-base comparisons and showcase her rental decor, Kathy shows us she keeps her hair extensions in plastic sandwich bags, Jennifer Tilly calls out the clique-is behavior of the group, and Dorit does the worst Sutton voice I've ever heard.

From learning more about promo videos, hype articles, and pettiness, to staying focused about what does and does not matter for trial, this dive addresses an amalgamation of distractions and conundrums. Ultimately, my opinion is that each party has been their own worst enemy by undercutting their own assertions and losing the thing they both want more than any amount of money - public trust. The trial next year will be a circus but I hope those who can see through all the current noise will then be able to see through any courtroom spin.
