16 Siders Kids: Can Any Of Them Come Back From This? Jul 16, 2026
    Show notes

The youngest Siders child is eighteen months old. The oldest spent eighteen years inside that house. Between those two ages sits the most uncomfortable question in this entire case: where is the line — the age past which what was taken from a child can't fully be given back? Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins live to answer it honestly, without the comforting version.

Scott walks through what recovery actually looks like for children whose brains developed in total isolation. Some can't speak. Some can't read. All sixteen are now learning that the only reality they ever knew was a crime scene. She explains why the rescue — the moment the public celebrates and moves on from — is the single most destabilizing event of these children's lives, and what has to happen next for it to become a beginning instead of a second loss.

The Turpin case hangs over everything. Thirteen children, national sympathy, donated millions — and several of them homeless or back in harmful placements within a few years. Scott lays out what went wrong there, what determines which children rebuild, and which of the sixteen Siders kids have the best and worst odds.

16 Siders Kids: How Do Three Generations Build THIS Together? Jul 16, 2026
    Show notes

Gary Siders Sr. is seventy-three. His wife Christina is sixty-seven. Their son is thirty-six. His wife is thirty-three. Four adults across two generations, all charged with the same sixteen felony counts, all allegedly participating in the same arrangement: sixteen children in one room, no school, no doctors, no outside world. Whatever happened in that house wasn't one person's pathology. It was a family project.

Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins live to work through how a multigenerational family system organizes itself around something this dark — who sets the rules, who enforces them, who complies, and how the arrangement survives for nearly two decades without a single member breaking ranks. The house wasn't chaos. It was maintained. And maintenance requires agreement.

Scott also takes on the Elizabeth question directly: a woman married into this family at fifteen, pregnant since possibly age thirteen, isolated from everyone she knew for fifteen years. Where does her responsibility begin — and where does the family system's control over her end? The AG's word for this case — intrafamilial — hangs over the entire conversation.

16 Siders Kids: Twenty People Lived There And NOBODY Saw Them? Jul 16, 2026
    Show notes

Twenty human beings generate footprints. Trash. Grocery volume. Water usage. Noise through thin walls. Movement past windows. Twenty people in a five-room house next to railroad tracks produce evidence of themselves constantly, involuntarily, every hour of every day. And the official story out of Hamden, Ohio, is that for years, nobody registered any of it.

Tony and Robin go live on the claim at the center of the Siders case. They walk through every touchpoint this family had with the outside world — the DoorDash routes, the Dollar General runs, the utility meters somebody read, the mail somebody delivered, the taxes somebody processed — and ask the audience directly: how many of these touchpoints would it have taken in your neighborhood before someone said something?

The live format puts the town's defenders and critics in the same chat. Some will say a family determined to hide can hide anywhere. Others will say seven hundred people don't miss twenty. The conversation doesn't let either side off easy — because the answer determines whether the next sixteen kids get found by a neighbor or by another accident.

16 Siders Kids: A Senator Is Already Walking Back WHAT? Jul 16, 2026
    Show notes

In 2023, Ohio's legislature stripped its homeschool oversight down to a notification — no proof of curriculum, no demonstration of qualifications, nothing but a form. In 2026, deputies found sixteen children who had never seen a classroom, some of whom can't read, one of whom can't write her own name at eighteen. And before a single indictment has come down, a senator who voted for the rollback is already telling reporters the law might need "revisiting." Tony and Robin go live on what that speed-run reversal actually signals.

Politicians don't walk back votes because of introspection. They walk them back because someone showed them their exposure. The live conversation reads the early tells across every institution in this case — the hospital systems reviewing eighteen years of delivery records, the state agencies auditing what benefits went where, the county offices checking what reports were or weren't filed as the family bounced between jurisdictions.

The audience gets the watchlist: the carefully lawyered statement, the "commitment to reviewing our processes," the timeline released on a Friday afternoon. When those start appearing, the chat will know exactly which agency blinked first — and why.

16 Siders Kids: Who Deserves The Most Blame For All Of This? Jul 16, 2026
    Show notes

Four adults are charged. But the blame in the Siders case doesn't stop at four — it spreads through a town that noticed and stayed silent, agencies that documented and never acted, a court that signed the license that started it, and a legislature that dismantled the one safeguard that might have caught it. Tony and Robin go live with the full conversation and put the question straight to the audience: rank the blame.

Everything is on the board. Hamden's unanimous alibi and the details that shred it. The store clerk who remembered everything for reporters and reported nothing to authorities. The hospitals with sixteen unflagged deliveries and one unexamined tragedy. The senator sprinting from his own homeschool vote. The county-line file resets that gave the family a clean slate with every move. The million-dollar cleanup bill for a failure that prevention money never got the chance to stop. And the free pass every bystander held for eighteen years and never had to justify.

The live chat drives the final segment — blame rankings, the Dollar General honesty test, and the charges-lawsuits-laws bet — because on this case, the audience's split verdict is the most honest polling Ohio is going to get.

16 Siders Kids: Does Your Silence Deserve A Free Pass? Jul 15, 2026
    Show notes

Right now, in Ohio and almost everywhere else, you can watch a child deteriorate in front of you for years — notice everything, suspect everything — and owe nothing. No call. No report. No consequence. Good Samaritan laws protect you if you step up; nothing touches you if you don't. Tony and Robin go live on whether that free pass survives the Siders case.

The live conversation runs the argument both directions with the chat weighing in. One side: attaching legal duty to ordinary citizens turns neighborhoods into informant networks, punishes people for judgment calls, and buries hotlines in noise. The other side: sixteen children spent eighteen years surrounded by people who noticed — the store clerk with years of detailed memories, the town that saw the family everywhere — and every one of them was legally entitled to do nothing, so they did.

The Dollar General scenario goes to the audience directly: same line, same family, same off-looking kids, month after month. Real answer — do you call? The gap between what the chat says and what the research says people actually do becomes the whole point of the night.

Guthrie, Reiner, Heuermann: What Everyone Missed Live Jul 15, 2026
    Show notes

This episode of Hidden Killers Live does something a little different: instead of one deep dive, the team moves through three cases back to back, Nancy Guthrie, Nick Reiner, and Rex Heuermann, and takes listener questions on all three.

Robin Drake, Todd Michaels, and Lisa Hale start with Nancy Guthrie, six months missing from her Arizona home, and answer listener questions about the note her family received and what it might mean. From there, the conversation moves to Nick Reiner, accused of murdering his parents hours after a fight at a party that other guests noticed and did nothing about, including a personal story from Lisa about watching her own son go through a mental health crisis. The episode closes on Rex Heuermann, already sentenced to three life sentences plus a hundred years, and the unlicensed therapist who worked closely with his family while hiding who she really was.

Across all three cases, the hosts keep landing on the same theme: someone had a piece of information, a gut feeling, or a front-row seat to a warning sign, and it didn't reach the people who needed it in time. The team also fields tough listener questions about law enforcement's role in cases like these, the real barriers to getting people help before a crisis, and what "closure" actually looks like for families years into an unresolved case.

Three cases, one live conversation, and a lot of questions the team doesn't pretend to have easy answers for.

Did Rex Heuermann's Therapist Break THIS Rule? Jul 14, 2026
    Show notes

Rex Heuermann is behind bars for eight murders, but Hidden Killers Live spent this episode on a question listeners keep sending in: what was really going on with the therapist working closely with his family?

Robin Drake, Todd Michaels, and Lisa Hale take listener questions directly on this one, starting with reports that the therapist wasn't licensed, and that she appeared on a Peacock special discussing details tied to her clients. The hosts talk through whether that could open the door to an appeal, and share what the attorneys they've consulted on the case had to say about it. They also dig into a specific detail that's been bothering the team: reports that the therapist guided Heuermann's wife toward living in the remodeled bedroom connected to the murders.

Listeners also push the hosts on a harder question sent in by a viewer named Karen, about whether law enforcement bears some responsibility for how long it took to catch Heuermann, given that his victims weren't taken seriously for years because of the work they did. The team draws parallels to other cases involving marginalized victims and talks through the real, systemic pressures investigators face when they're juggling far more cases than they can properly staff.

The hosts close out the hour on what's still unresolved: one victim still known only as Jane Doe, families who believe more victims exist, and Heuermann's agreement to sit down with the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit from inside Clinton Correctional. The team is honest about one thing: closure for every family affected by this case may never fully arrive.

Did Anyone See THIS Coming From Nick Reiner? Jul 14, 2026
    Show notes

Rob and Michele Reiner were killed in their own home nine months ago, and Hidden Killers Live spent this episode answering the questions listeners can't let go of, starting with the one that stings the most: did anyone see this coming from their son, Nick?
Robin Drake, Todd Michaels, and Lisa Hale take listener questions directly, starting with reports that Nick and his father fought at a holiday party hours before the killings, with other guests noticing his behavior and going home anyway. The hosts talk through what it means when a pattern gets normalized inside a family and a friend group, and Lisa shares a personal story about watching her own son go through a frightening, medication-related mental health crisis, and how hard it is to stay firm with someone you love when you're afraid of where firmness might lead.
The team also fields listener questions about the insanity defense already being floated publicly, why the legal bar for it is so difficult to clear, and why Nick's documented history of addiction and reported mental health struggles may not be enough on their own to meet that standard. There's a real conversation about domestic violence hotlines, the concept of a "loving critic," and what it might have taken for someone at that party to say something out loud instead of going home.
Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to murdering both of his parents. With a preliminary hearing now set for September and a defense team that's already changed once, the hosts talk through what comes next, and why cases like this rarely move at the pace people expect.

Did Nancy Guthrie's Captor Really Write THIS? Jul 14, 2026
    Show notes

Nancy Guthrie has been gone for six months, and Hidden Killers Live goes straight at the question the audience keeps asking: what does that ransom note actually say, and why won't the FBI just say it outright?
She vanished from her own home in the middle of the night. Blood was found on her porch. A masked man showed up on her doorbell camera hours earlier. Her family has received multiple notes claiming responsibility, and investigators have quietly ruled some out while refusing to rule out at least one other — the one that reportedly expresses something no family wants to read.
Live hosts Robin Drake, Todd Michaels, and Lisa Hale take listener questions directly on this one, including what it's actually like for Savannah Guthrie to keep showing up to a national broadcast every single day while privately grieving a mother she hasn't been able to bury. They also tackle a question a listener sent in about her own elderly mother living alone, and turn it into a real conversation about the early warning signs families miss before it's too late.
The team also unpacks the FBI's decision to keep pursuing this as a kidnapping-for-ransom case even with blood at the scene, what that classification actually changes on the ground, and why federal and local law enforcement don't always move as one unit no matter what television has trained people to expect.
Six months in, this is the closest anyone has come to explaining what that note really means.
