5 Considerations for Setting Up Your Herbal Practice Feb 20, 2021
    Show notes

Setting up a clinical practice is daunting and requires direction, support, and confidence. When first starting out in clinical practice, there are many factors to consider; from herbalism and the law, overheads, clinical skills, forms, and policies, to preparing your own extracts, formulating for clients, and managing your dispensary.

Join Erika Galentin MNIMH, RH (AHG) and Brooke Sackenheim of Sovereignty Herbs for an exploration of the many facets of modern clinical herbal practice and details that you might want to consider in setting up your own herbal clinic including:

Why having good clinical forms is the cornerstone of a solid clinical practice and what types of forms you should have ready to go.

The importance of considering 'the business' of clinical practice including consultation options and setting fees, professional and liability insurance, the free clinical model, and accounting.

Professional practicalities and ethical considerations including Scope of Practice, Herbalism & the law, Privacy and Confidentiality, & Non-discrimination policies.

Marketing considerations including being familiar with what you can and cannot say in print, on your website, to the media, and on social media and how this helps to build a trustworthy brand.

What you need to be thinking about in regards to getting herbs and supplements to your clients including managing a clean and compliant dispensary.

Erika and Brooke also cover information about Sovereignty Herbs' new program, Spring into Herbal Practice: An Online Intensive for Landing the Leap from Student to Practitioner, as well as opportunities for formal mentorship with Erika Galentin. REPLAY | How to Forage Healing Foods & Herbal Medicine with Rosalee de la Forêt and Emily Han Jan 11, 2021
    Show notes

    ROOTED MEDICINE CIRCLE

As herbs have become increasingly popular, the true heart of herbal medicine is at risk...

Today there's a lot of emphasis on what herbs are "good for." Take turmeric for inflammation! Dandelion root for the liver!

But when we reduce plants to a simple equation of "take xyz herb for xyz problem," the soul of herbal medicine is erased.

Herbalism isn't about throwing back dropperfuls of a tincture. It's about transforming your life by becoming deeply rooted in the natural world, its seasonal rhythms, and your place within it.

That's why we're excited to share Rooted Medicine Circle, a new course from my friends Rosalee de la Forêt and Emily Han. (You might know them as the best-selling authors of Wild Remedies and Alchemy of Herbs.)

Rooted Medicine Circle guides you in how to make powerful herbal medicines while also strengthening your relationship with nature.

Instead of buying supplements off the shelf, you'll be working directly with the plants to create herbal medicines uniquely suited to your preferences.

As you learn core medicine making skills, you'll fill your home apothecary with effective remedies and nourishing foods, like locally sourced bitters for digestion; salves and ointments to nourish your skin; and potent tinctures, teas, syrups, and more.

Rooted Medicine Circle opens just once a year, and it's now open for enrollment.

    Check it out here.

On the Rooted Medicine Circle enrollment page, Rosalee and Emily also included an extensive sample from the course! It's a tutorial on making teas and decoctions and includes a reference chart to show you how to make teas with over 100 common plants. Even if this course isn't right for you right now, you'll get a lot out of this sample lesson!

Click here to check out the course and get your sample lesson.

    Class Description

More than half of American adults suffer from acid reflux and heartburn each year, and acid-reducing proton-pump inhibitor drugs are the third most prescribed class of drugs in the nation. Yes these medications do not address the root cause of disease and come with serious long-term side effects. One approach does not fit all! Let's delve into the different types and causes of acid reflux and heartburn, how herbal and holistic practitioners can assess clients during the intake, and different approaches to addressing heartburn and reflux customized to the client's patterns including SIBO, low acidity, poor signaling, sphincter issues, and gastric inflammation. We'll focus primarily on herbal and dietary approaches. We'll also cover the pros and cons of potential classes of herbs including mucilaginous herbs, vulneraries, astringents, antimicrobials, carminatives, bitters, sours/vinegar, and pungent herbs. Tips for supporting clients as they wean off PPIs will be included. Download the slides at https://wintergreenbotanicals.com/gerd/
