About Harvey's guest:

Tom Santopietro is the author of five books: “The Sound of Music Story”, “The Godfather Effect: Changing Hollywood, America, and Me”, “Sinatra in Hollywood”, “Considering Doris Day” and “The Importance of Being Barbra”. A frequent media commentator in programs ranging from the PBS documentary The Italian Americans to the Jimmy van Heusen biography Swingin' With Frank & Bing, Tom conducts monthly interviews for Barnes and Noble and lectures on classic films. Over the past thirty years he has managed more than two dozen Broadway shows.

He’s here to discuss his fascinating book entitled, “Sinatra in Hollywood: The Film Career of a Screen Icon”, which not only celebrates the screen legacy of this iconic star, but also delves into his tumultuous marriages, his political involvement, and those persistent rumours of mafia connections. Although we usually think of Sinatra as a recording and concert artist, the fact is that he made 61 feature films, and was a tremendously gifted actor.

Show notes

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Joe Jones, Author of , “The Tragic Life of a Black L.A. Cop: Truth For Change”

About Harvey's guest:

former LAPD law enforcement peace officer and author Joe Jones. Jones gives us a look into his life as an Adolescent Kid in the Hood until Today, as a Retired Officer, family man, community figure, businessman, and mentor. The Many Racially Charged Incidents will leave you hungry for the next, As Jones gives you play-by-play from a Black Policing Perspective. His Painful Career Experiences are provided for the World to Decide if there is a problem within the Culture of Policing.

It took Jones 20 years to write this book. The Emotional Pain and Nightmares of being an Officer would not allow him to endure the Reflection needed consistently. He was finally able to complete it after many killings of innocent Blacks at the hands of Law Enforcement, as well as the recent obvious Racial Disparage of Equal Justice in America witnessed by the World with the Insurrection of the U.S. Senate Building by Trump supporters. The Book Burned his consciousness again and he was able to finish.

This book is the BIBLE of the Crippling Circumstances a Black Police Officer can experience during a Law Enforcement Career. The Author through honest testimony has chronically depicted his life as a young man, through the Academy, and 8 1/2 years as an LAPD Officer before succumbing to PTSD caused by multiple tragedies, conspiracies, and Injustice during his career and years after as a Retired Officer. He is revealing his truth to hopefully once and for all get the conversation continued to Reform Police Departments across the Nation.

Harvey Brownstone Interviews Tim Malachosky, Mae West’s Personal Assistant Sep 27, 2021

Show notes

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Tim Malachosky, Mae West’s Personal Assistant

About Harvey's guest:

Today’s guest has the distinction of having been the personal assistant for one of the greatest legendary stage and screen goddesses of all time: Mae West, for the last decade of her life. Although she died in 1980 at the age of 87 after a career that spanned 7 decades, Mae West is still one of the most innovative and controversial entertainers in the history of show business, because she was always way ahead of her time. She wrote and starred in her own plays, including the 1926 Broadway show “Sex”, that landed her in jail on charges of corrupting the morals of young people. In blockbuster movies such as “She Done Him Wrong”, “Klondike Annie”, and “My Little Chickadee”, she was known for her breezy sexual independence, and her lighthearted naughty double entendres. She was an industry powerhouse, and the second highest-paid actor in Hollywood back in the 1930s. She was also an early supporter of the feminist movement and the gay rights movement. As Mae West famously said, “When I’m good, I’m very good; but when I’m bad, I’m better.” And no one KNEW her better, than our guest, Tim Malachosky.

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Saumya Roy, Author of “Castaway Mountain: Love and Loss Among the Wastepickers of Mumbai”

About Harvey's guest:

Saumya Roy is a journalist and activist based in Mumbai. She has written for Forbes India magazine, Mint newspaper, Outlook magazine, wsj.com, thewire.in and Bloomberg News among others. In 2010 she co- founded Vandana Foundation to support the livelihoods of Mumbai’s poorest micro entrepreneurs by giving small, low interest loans.

Her book is entitled, “Castaway Mountain: Love and Loss Among the Wastepickers of Mumbai”, and it opens our eyes to a little known community of over a thousand people living on the outskirts of Mumbai, India at the edge of the massive Deonar garbage mountains. These people, living in small shacks and tents, are trash pickers. They make their living by foraging through this massive dump filled with torn rags, plastic, broken glass, crushed cans, and even toxic waste, looking for anything they can sell, so they can live another day. This non-fiction book is a deeply moving love story with unforgettable characters, set against the backdrop of this real-life harrowing world in India, of excruciating poverty and squalor in the shadow of enormous wealth.

She has received fellowships from the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center, Blue Mountain Center, Carey Institute for Global Good and Sangam House to write this book. She attended a conference on environmental humanities at KTH, Stockholm in 2017 to share her research, and contributed a chapter to Dharavi: The Cities Within/ (HarperCollins, 2013), an anthology of essays on Asia’s largest slum.

Roy was a fellow of the National Foundation of India in 2012, and has Masters Degrees in Journalism from Northwestern University and Mumbai’s Sophia College, where she teaches magazine writing.
