    About Harvey's guest:

Today’s special guest, Christine Ebersole, is a beloved, highly acclaimed singer, actress and recording artist whose spectacular body of work has conquered every medium: the stage, movies, television and the recording studio.

She’s starred in numerous Broadway shows, including “Oklahoma”, “Camelot”, “Dinner at Eight”, “Steel Magnolias”, “Blithe Spirit” – and she won Tony awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performances in “42nd Street” and “Grey Gardens”, for which she also won the Drama Critics Award and the Obie Award. On the big screen, you’ve seen her in many hit movies including “Tootsie”, “Amadeus”, “Dead Again”, “True Crime”, “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Licorice Pizza”.

And if all of that weren’t enough, she has the magnificent, crystal clear, perfect pitch voice of an angel. She’s performed in concert on tour in her show, “Big Noise From Winnetka”, and at the most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Cinegrill, Feinstein’s, Birdland and Café Carlyle. And NOW, she’s released her highly anticipated brand new album “After the Ball”, featuring classic songs by some of the greatest songwriters including Jerome Kern, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, and even Joni Mitchell, with original arrangements by Broadway veteran Lawrence Yurman.

Harvey Brownstone Interviews P.P. Arnold, Renowned R&B, Soul Singer, Author, “Soul Survivor” Dec 20, 2022
    Show notes

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with P.P. Arnold, Renowned R&B, Soul Singer, Author, “Soul Survivor”

    About Harvey's guest:

Today’s special guest, P.P. Arnold, is a phenomenal soul singer whose lifetime of show-stopping performances, in the recording studio and on the stage, have made her a legend.

She began singing in church as a child, and at the age of four, she became lead soloist. At the age of 17, with virtually NO show business experience, armed with only a spectacular voice and remarkable stage presence, she was hired by Ike and Tina Turner to sing and dance with them as an “Ikette” in the “Ike and Tina Turner Review”. While on tour in the UK with the Rolling Stones in 1966, she developed a close relationship with Mick Jagger, who persuaded her to stay in England, and record as a solo artist.

She was the first female artist to sign with Immediate Records. With hit songs including “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright”, “The First Cut is the Deepest”, “The Time Has Come”, “If You Think You’re Groovy”, and everybody’s favourite, “Angel of the Morning”, she became known as “The First Lady of Immediate Records”, and England’s undisputed Queen of Soul.

She’s had a rich, amazing five-decade career working with everyone from Mick Jagger to Rod Stewart, Roy Orbison, Eric Clapton, Barry Gibb, Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters, Paul Weller, John Cougar Mellencamp and so many more.

She sang on the original “Jesus Christ Superstar” album. She starred in the original London production of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s groundbreaking show, “Starlight Express”. And yes, that is her voice singing with Andy Gibb on the beautiful duet, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”. And if you’re a Peter Gabriel fan, you can thank OUR GUEST for making his songs “Sledgehammer” and “Big Time”, so memorable. And the same can be said of her duet with Roger Waters on the legendary song, “Perfect Sense”.

Earlier this year she released her highly anticipated memoir entitled, “Soul Survivor”, which is an intensely personal, brutally honest, compelling - and at times shocking - account of her turbulent, but always passionate life. And she’s just released her very first Christmas single, “It Won’t Be Christmas Without You”, which has that soulful 60’s vibe and is already becoming an instant classic.

Harvey Brownstone Interviews Larry Carlton, Multi-Grammy Award Winning Guitarist Dec 17, 2022
    Show notes

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Larry Carlton, Multi-Grammy Award Winning Guitarist

    About Harvey's guest:

Today’s special guest, Larry Carlton, is a legendary, 4-time Grammy award winning guitarist whose brilliant musicianship can be heard on thousands of recordings, and on over 100 gold records recorded by the greatest stars of all time, including Barbra Streisand, Peggy Lee, Sammy Davis Jr., Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Olivia Newton-John, Dolly Parton, and dozens more.

His list of milestones in a career spanning over 50 years is staggering. For over 3 decades, before transitioning completely to a solo artist, he was one of the most sought-after studio musicians in the recording industry, because he’s equally adept on the electric and acoustic guitar, in every musical genre including pop, jazz, rock, R&B, blues, soul and country. He’s renowned for his unmistakable and often-imitated "sweet" sound, created on his famous Gibson ES-335 electric guitar.

He created his trademark volume pedal technique, prominently featured in his recordings with Joni Mitchell, and with the legendary jazz/rock group “The Crusaders”, with whom he toured until 1976, and performed on 13 of their albums. He was a member of the iconic jazz band, “Four Play”, and recorded 8 albums with them. His performance on the "Theme from Hill Street Blues" won him a Grammy award. And he co-wrote the theme for the hit TV sitcom “Who’s the Boss”, and the movie soundtrack for “Against All Odds”.

His guitar work on Steely Dan's classic song, "Kid Charlemagne", was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the greatest guitar licks of all time. His solo career has been hugely successful, with over 30 albums and 14 video concerts produced so far. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences voted him their most valuable player for 3 consecutive years, and then he was given their highest honour; he was named “player emeritus”.

    Show notes

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Diane Ladd, Legendary Actress, Starring in “Isle of Hope”

    About Harvey's guest:

Today’s special guest, Diane Ladd, is a legendary actress whose monumental body of work includes some of the most critically acclaimed and beloved movies and TV shows ever made.

She’s been nominated for 3 Academy Awards for her performances in “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”, “Wild at Heart” and “Rambling Rose”, in which she and her daughter, Laura Dern, made show business history as the first mother/daughter duo to earn Oscar nominations for the same film. She’s won dozens of international awards including The British Academy Award, the Golden Globe Award, the Independent Spirit Film Award, the Susan B. Anthony Award, and the Palme d’or Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

She’s been nominated for 3 Emmy Awards for her performances in “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman”, “Grace Under Fire” and “Touched by an Angel”. In addition to her Oscar-nominated roles, some of her most iconic movie performances can be seen in “Chinatown”, “A Kiss Before Dying”, “Christmas Vacation”, “The Cemetery Club”, “Mrs. Munck, which she also wrote and directed, “Ghosts of Mississippi”, “Primary Colors”, “Joy”, and one of my all-time favourites, “The Last Full Measure”, directed by Todd Robinson who appeared on our show last year.

And, in addition to the 3 TV shows I already mentioned, for which she earned Emmy nominations, she’s delivered some of her most memorable television performances in dozens of shows including “Chesapeake Shores”, “Kingdom Hospital”, and “Enlightened”, once again co-starring the wonderful Laura Dern. She’s written 2 bestselling books entitled, “Spiraling Through the School of Life: A Mental, Physical and Spiritual Discovery”, and “A Bad Afternoon for a Piece of Cake”, which won the 2014 Tennessee Williams Literary Award.

And I’m very excited that she’s here to talk about her newest film, entitled, “Isle of Hope”, an unforgettably poignant and moving film about a mother-daughter relationship that takes a dramatic twist when the mother has a life threatening stroke and wakes up thinking she’s living 15 years in the past.

Our guest’s performance as Carmen Crawford, the mother in this film, is generating enormous Oscar buzz throughout the industry. And that’s no surprise to anyone. After all, the renowned film critic Richard Corless of Time Magazine said it best, when he wrote that this woman is one of the top ten actresses not only in America, but the whole world.
