    Gutting the Sacred Cow

Gutting the Sacred Cow invites guests to argue why some of the most financially successful, beloved or acclaimed films are trash or overrated. But here's the twist, the film must meet 1 of these criteria: widely beloved, financial success, or critically acclaimed. Standup comedians Kevin Gootee and Kevin Israel love films and they love arguing about them.. But will they agree with their guests arguments or feed them into a wood chipper?

We give a platform with those who have unpopular opinions to be bold enough to voice them. What are some films that have faced scrutiny: Back to the Future, Goodfellas, Shawshank Redemption, the Dark Knight, Toy Story, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the Matrix, and Die Hard. Can the guests persuade us or do we rip them a new one?

Give us a listen and we'll easily prove that we belong on any top movie podcast list. We throw plenty of fun segments in the mix: 5 fun facts, our readers have us ask our guests questions they'd like answered in "Ask a Gutter", critics 5 and 1 star reviews and our FAVORITE segment, reading Amazon 5 and 1 star reviews.; You'll never go down a more fun rabbit hole than hearing crazy people asking for refunds while submitting their personal info for payment.

We also give you movie and TV recommendations in our bonus segment aptly titled, "What Did We Watch" So if you want spirited movie debate and wonder what the hell is wrong with some people who hate some of these treasured films or if you secretly agree these beloved movies are awful, this podcast is for you.

Juliette Miranda CLOSES THE BOOK on The NeverEnding Story episode 203 GTSC podcast Sep 13, 2023
    Show notes

The most Gen-X fantasy/fairy tale film finally meets its executioner and her name is Juliette Miranda. The NeverEnding Story sucked in kids to live through a book that had a horse drawn in mud, a wolf who liked children a little too much, a dad who drank raw eggs and orange juice, and a furry llama that did nothing except fly. Joining host Kevin Gootee is king of New Orleans snark, David the Producer. Does Wolfgang Pedersen deserve to have a pedophile wolf eat him for creating this film?

Juliette, David the Producer, and KG also discuss which films have made them tear up as kids or as adults. Also, the trio fire out their favorite fantasy and Pixar movies. What other 80s fantasy films do you like? And what films STILL make you tear up or get sad as an adult?

Let's also see if Chat GPT can FINALLY write better jokes than Kevin Gootee. But most importantly, let's see if Juliette can Gut...the..sacred...cow!

    Show notes

It took 3.5 years and over 200 episodes and we FINALLY got someone sacking up to attack a Woody Allan film. Britty Migs wants an explanation how nebbishy and not so handsome Woody Allan is able to be a TWO TIME divorcee AND land Diane Keaton in Annie Hall. Inspired by Alvie, Woody Allen's character, the crew decides what names you would NEVER call out in the throes of passion. Also, how creepy is Paul Simon in this film? Does the breaking of the 4th wall work in this film? Would Shelley Duvall go for real life Woody Allan? And does this rewatch justify it winning best picture over Star Wars? Let's see if Brittany can convince all the hoidy toidy film and movie nerds that Annie Hall doesn't hold up and why Match Point, Blue Jasmine, Midnight in Paris, Hannah and Her Sisters are all better than this?

Jackie Kashian SHOOTS The Godfather At The Tollbooth episode 199 GTSC podcast Aug 15, 2023
    Show notes

No mincing words here. Jackie Kashian is metaphorically strapping on a suicide vest and attacking arguably, the greatest film ever made. The Godfather is not only beloved, financially successful, and acclaimed; it's probably most people's opinion of the best movie. She explains why Michael Corleone, Vito Corleone, Sonny, Tom Hagen, Kay, Fredo is just a complete waste of time and easily the most wrongfully overrated film. She acquiesces that Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando, Talia Shire, and John Cazale were great performances but the storyline should sleep with the fish.

Joining Kevin Gootee to hear this Don Quixote-esque quest to poke holes in the Godfather is super friend to the show, Dave Quist, of the Blockbuster Mentality podcast. You know you're DYING to hear if Jackie can a good enough case why this film should garroted in the back of the car.

The gang also listens to a story of Jackie's dad not telling his 2nd wife he had 8 kids. And Jackie tops that tale with a story of her 2 DWIs. KG and DQ also breakdown the rise and fall of R rated comedies like Porky's and Animal House. Want to know what films Jackie finds to be a perfect 10 since she hates the Godfather? We get her favorite top films as well.
