Celtics PRIDE: Jaylen the flamethrower, Tatum lacks force, Payton Pritchard is GOOD, and other reactions from the past week Jan 05, 2021
    Show notes

The Celtics Pride team had so many reactions this week they had to record them in two parts. Part 1 - After squeezing out a win against the Pistons on Sunday, Adam, Josh, and Mike needed a cathartic conversation to discuss their frustration with Tatum (despite the game winner and `12 assists), express their amazement at Jaylen's play against the Grizzlies and Pistons, and wonder what the heck is going on with the team's effort, and Stevens' lineup decisions. Mike breaks out some depressing stats on Jayson Tatum's performance operating in the ISO, the team wonders whether Payton Pritchard is the Celtics 3rd best offensive player, reflects on their initial impressions of Tristan Thompson, and Adam wonders when Aaron Nesmith will have the opportunity to get regular minutes to learn what to do on the court. Part 2 - Adam, Josh, and Mike are back at it immediately following the Celtics emphatic win against the Raptors. Did their feelings about Tatum change? Is Payton Pritchard destined for the Hall of Fame? Will we (finally) be free of the two big starting lineup? And... is it too early to be worried about Aaron Nesmith? Celtics PRIDE: Jason Tatum's progress with shot selection, Brad's masterful player development and media motivation, Payton Pritchard in the rotation and more. Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode of Celtics PRIDE, Josh Motenko, Mike Minkoff and Adam Motenko discuss the Celtics first three games of the 2020-2021 NBA Season including the win against the Bucks on Jason Tatum's bank shot three at the buzzer, the blowout loss to Brooklyn and the loss to Indiana on another last second three attempt by Tatum. The guys compare Jason Tatum's development and clutch shots to Paul Pierce in his early prime and explore why Brad Stevens chose not to design a play at the end of either game. They pointed out how this choice might be very intentional on Brad Stevens' part for the purpose of player development and may be connected to his increasingly striking public comments. The PRIDE team takes an initial temperature of other important developments in the early season such as Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart's play, the "twin tower" starting five with Theis and Thompson. They also gush over Payton Pritchard, talk about why Aaron Nesmith isn't in the rotation and Coach Josh theorizes on the legality of the pick and seal play that has been a staple of the Celtics' offense for years and occasionally gets called for a foul. Celtics PRIDE: An education on smudging with Durwood Vanderhoop, and a look ahead to this week's games Dec 22, 2020
    Show notes

After Friday's episode Adam, Josh, and Mike (mostly Mike) were called out by Durwood Vanderhoop (@1durwood on Twitter), a member of the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe, for the way we discussed Kyrie's use of sage to perform a traditional smudging practice prior to the Celtics-Nets preseason game. So, we apologized. And we were appreciative when Durwood agreed to join us to discuss. Durwood shares the significance of sage burning and smudging in his life and his reaction to seeing a bona fide NBA superstar like Kyrie Irving embracing and representing his own Native American heritage. We also discuss the inherent reactivity Celtics fans have to anything Kyrie does, how that contributed to culturally insensitive and uninformed backlash among Celtics fans and media, and briefly reflect on other examples of non-Western cultures imprinting and positively impacting basketball (here's looking at you Doc!) We round out the episode by taking a look ahead to this week's upcoming games against a revamped Milwaukee Bucks squad and the same Brooklyn Nets that just walloped the C's in the preseason. Adam and Mike predict doom-and-gloom for the opening week, while Josh tries to keep perspective. Just another day on Celtics PRIDE (@celticspridepod). Learn more about your ad choices. CelticsPod: Timelord vs Theis, and Rookies showing more than first thought Dec 21, 2020
    Show notes

Both Timelord and Theis enter this season with questions looming over their contracts at the end of the season, do the Celtics see value in keeping both around long-term? Or is this an audition to remain on the roster beyond this season? Adam and Brenden debate who should stay, or if there's value in the diversity both of these players bring. Then the guys look at the additional skillsets both Aaron Nesmith and Payton Pritchard displayed in pre-season that show's these young guys may provide the Celtics more than we first thought. Adam Motenko, Josh Motenko and Mike Minkoff, give initial impressions of the Celtics play so far and what it may or may not indicate for the regular season. The guys talk about Kyrie burning sage in the Garden, Payton Pritchard and Aaron Nesmith's role on the team, poor shooting from the stars and poor playmaking from Brown and Smart. Mike overreacts to what he's seeing on the court while Adam and Josh remind everyone that it's just preseason. "We're fine! Everything is fine!" - Josh Motenko Learn more about your ad choices.
