Celtics PRIDE: Heading Into Game 2 vs Milwaukee May 03, 2022
    Show notes

Celtics PRIDE: Heading Into Game 2 vs Milwaukee Josh and Mike are without Adam Motenko on this episode of the Celtics Pride Podcast heading into game 2 vs the Milwaukee Bucks. After a difficult game 1 in the series, Mike and Josh give their analysis on what went wrong and how to regroup. They compare the Bucks stifling defense to our own, and the Bucks overall play to the Brooklyn Nets. MIke shares why he believes Kevin Durant was looking at Jayson Tatum the way Tatum must be looking at Giannis right now. Then Josh doubles down on the Bucks defensive acumen by explaining how they made it difficult for the Celtics to simply get the ball over half court. The Pride Guys continue to undress the mess of the past few days since game 1 by going through each narrative, theory and take they’ve heard from national and local media in a round of their new game, “How Much Weight” where they ask “how much weight does that theory hold?” They address the injuries, the turnovers, the lack of shooting, and the poor play by certain individuals, and whether any one person in particular should be blamed. They get metaphysical, but only for a few moments, in response to some side chatter from Steve Nash and Raja Bell regarding how teams who cut corners and cheat the game are looked down upon by the basketball gods. When the Celtics revert back to their “old ways” of undisciplined habits, are they cheating the game, or just getting “punked” as Ime Udoka once called it? Josh then ends the episode by providing some historical perspective on Marcus Smart’s Defensive Player Of The Year Award. He reveals how rare it is for a guy his size to win it - we all remember that the only other point guard to win the award was Gary Payton, but who were the other two 6’4” guards to win the award? It’s a defensive themed podcast as we celebrate the Celtics Bucks series bringing back the old 1990’s Eastern Conference physical NBA games, with Jrue Holiday and Marcus Smart headlining the event. Shout out to all the 6’4 and under DPOY guards, and to those yet to come. Tune in to get your Celtics fix. Celtics PRIDE: Break out the Shamrock-Studded Brooms Apr 26, 2022
    Show notes

Adam and Mike provide instant reaction to the Celtics’ exciting and gratifying sweep of the Brooklyn Nets on Monday evening. They begin by simply relishing in the victory and offer some playful mocking of those (*cough* Adam *cough*) who thought the Celtics should try to avoid the Nets in the playoffs. But then, it’s time to give credit where credit’s due - starting with kudos to Jayson Tatum who ‘leveled up’ and put himself in the conversation as truly one of the absolute best players in the league. In fact, it left Mike and Adam wondering whether there’s ANYBODY in the league they’d pick ahead of JT if they were starting a franchise from scratch. What would your list be? The guys then spread the love around – from praising Grant Williams’ incredible defense on KD (and excellent shooting), to Marcus Smart’s great playmaking, to Al Horford’s lethal outside shooting. And, Mike states his case for why people need to stop acting surprised by Daniel Theis being pretty good… and expresses his annoyance at National Media expressing shock at Marcus Smart thriving as a point guard. The Celtics Pride guys ever-so-briefly delight in beating Kyrie Irving’s new team, before happily shifting their focus towards what’s to come – a likely 2nd round series with the Milwaukee Bucks. Adam and Mike can’t help but feel bullish about the C’s chances based on their performance in this series, and they start thinking of some of the match-ups and strategic considerations (who defends Giannis? Is Rob back in the starting lineup? Just how long might noted Celtics-killer Khris Middleton be sidelined?) Finally, Adam tests just how closely Mike was monitoring the C’s box scores by tossing some first round series trivia Mike’s way – Who led the team in 3P%? Who had the most assists per game? Did Tatum average over or under 9 FT per game? Tune in to get your Celtics fix. Celtics PRIDE: Marcus Smart Wins DPOY and Celtics vs Nets Game 1 Review Apr 19, 2022
    Show notes

The Celtics PRIDE guys break down the Celtics Game 1 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on the day Marcus Smart is awarded the Defensive Player of the Year. They dissect all the memorable moments of the game, all the turning points and big plays for the Celtics. Player by player the guys analyze the play of each key member of the Celtics. Is Al Horford the perfect “connector” for this team? What is Tatum’s motivation in this series? How did Jayson show his continued mental maturity in his on-court play? What can we expect from Jaylen Brown in this series? Is Grant Williams truly ready for this, and will rise to the occasion? Coach Josh questions the referees in this game, and keys on their involvement as something that could make or break the Celtics’ #1 advantage - their #1 defense. Then the guys speculate potential adjustments the Nets might make in this series, including personnel decisions and on-court X’s and O’s, before questioning how the Celtics might adjust. The Celtics Pride crew then celebrates Marcus Smart’s big award as the best defender in the game. They share how this decision by the voters demonstrates how the game has changed, and might continue to prefer perimeter players in the future, as well as give the exact tally of DPOY votes, to show the margin of victory by Smart. Lastly, the guys give their brief comments on Kyrie Irving’s inability to show composure with his interactions with Boston fans. Tune in to get your Celtics fix.
