Playing with Hall of Famers, the USWNT Blame Game, and How CFB Conference Realignment Affects Other Athletes + Boat Dock, Baseball & Jake Paul Fights Aug 07, 2023
    Show notes

Happy ‘Knuck If You Buck’ Monday! Gojo and his Dad, Mike Golic Sr, shortly recap the viral video floating around featuring a sweet home brawl on a boat dock in Alabama before tackling…

(04:30) - Highlights from last weekend’s Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement. Golic says he teared up listening to this year’s class talk about their journeys and the support system that helped make them Hall of Famers. (08:20) Gojo talks about feeling the difference of playing with future Hall of Famers, like Zack Martin, and asks his Dad to share stories of his time playing with Reggie White and the Philadelphia Eagles: “It’s things you notice in practice, not the game.”

(12:04) - Gojo and Golic react to the USWNT losing to Sweden in penalty kicks at the end of regulation. After experiencing the earliest exit the US Women’s National Team has had in World Cup History, Gojo asks who is to blame. (14:27) “We had the best team in the World, and now we don’t” Golic sites the rest of the world catching up to our USWNT and Megan Rapinoe criticism. (16:15) Gojo argues everyone taking shots at the USWNT now is the same problem the US Men’s Basketball Team experienced, casual fans are used to the United States dominating on the World stage, and now we’re not.

(19:42) - Unfortunately for west coast football fans, Gojo and Golic react to more PAC-12 teams have announced their plans to leave for another conference: Oregon and Washington agree to join the BIG10 while Utah, Arizona, and Arizona St plan to join Colorado by joining the BIG-12. Golic reminds everyone how important the PAC-12 has been to collegiate athletics: listing their National Championships and Heisman Trophy winners. (24:40) “College Football is going to be fine” Golic explains how conference realignment negatively affects student-athletes who aren’t on the football team. (32: 30) Gojo says the part that sucks the most is decisions are being made by greedy people who are not collegiate athletes.

(40:23) - This, That, and the Third: Guardians’ Jose Ramirez and White Sox’s Tim Anderson exchange haymakers, Jake Paul defeats another aged MMA fighter in a boxing ring, and an Eastern Michigan player gives his scholarship to a deserving teammate.

Hall of Fame Game Recap: DeMarcus Ware’s Anthem, Aaron Rodgers’ Impact & Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s NFL introduction + Fast Food Power Rankings and CFP Contenders Aug 04, 2023
    Show notes

Issa Friday. LFG. Gojo and his Dad, Mike Golic Sr, feel great after a night of football, stories, and Aaron Rodger anecdotes during the NFL’s Preseason Hall of Fame Game. The guys touch on some of their favorite moments from the broadcast where the Jets faced off against the Browns. (02:10) Moments like Zach Thomas’ tears and a fictional world where Gojo made the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And then…

(05:41) - 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee DeMarcus Ware surprised the masses by singing the National Anthem before kickoff. Gojo is shocked that he even has to defend Ware’s performance calling his vocal performance the top moment of the evening. (08:25) Golic gives the soon-to-be Hall of Famer a low B but bumps the grade after hearing Ware talk about why he decided to sing in front of the world.

(12:05) - Gojo and Golic talk about the young players that stuck out to them during the HoF Game! Gojo says Kellen Mond should be looking over his shoulder after Dorian Thompson-Robinson earned himself some more reps at practice after an impressive 4th Quarter performance. Golic points out that DTR was playing against lower competition but gives him credit for how comfortable he looked. Then the guys talk about the New York Jets and how Aaron Rodgers needs Mekhi Becton and that offensive line to improve this season.

(19:43) - Gojo introduces the Tungsten Arm O’Doyle Stat of the day brought to you by another Shohei Ohtani feat muted by another Angels loss.

(22:48) - The Golics take a deeper look into the PAC-12 meeting to sign a Grant of Rights for a streaming deal that has PAC-12 universities announcing their departure from the conference.

(27:50) - Sticking with college football, ESPN writer Bill Connelly wrote his annual “Ifs List” mapping out potential championship matchups which led Gojo to consider USC’s title chances with a Heisman trophy winner at QB. The guys also discuss Alabama’s potential QB issues and Nick Saban’s era of terror coming to an end.

(35:28) - VSIN’s Matt Youmans did a fast food Top 50 Power Rankings for 2023. It’s beautiful, and his Top 5 Fast Food spots sparked a debate about Gojo and Golic’s favorite fast food places. Fast food chicken fingers, tacos, and cheeseburgers are all covered. Honestly, not enough fry talk.

(41:30) - This, That, and the Third: Diana Taurasi becomes the WNBA’s first 10,000-point player, Titans RT Jamarco Jones gets cut after fighting in camp, and a Somali runner placing dead last in the 100M gets someone suspended for nepotism.

Jared Carrabis on why the Angels should've traded Shohei Ohtani, the aggressive Astros and Mets fandom misery + NFL’s 2023 Hall of Fame Inductees & Preseason Game Preview Aug 03, 2023
    Show notes

FOOTBALL IS BACK!!! GoJo and his Dad celebrate the return of NFL Football even if it’s really bad football at this year’s Hall of Fame Preseason Game in Canton, Ohio…

(01:17) - Golic relives his first NFL action at the 1985 Hall of Fame Game in Canton before (07:30) Gojo shouts out the 2023 HoF Inductees calling them “the guys I grew up watching.”

(09:00) - Gojo and Golic preview tonight’s game as the Cleveland Browns “host” the New York Jets led by Zach Wilson.

(12:25) - After reports of FSU’s plans to leave the ACC, Gojo explains why he feels bad for conferences like the PAC-12 and how surprising it is that Colorado, started this domino effect. (22:05) - The Tribal Chief of Baseball, Jared Carrabis joins the show to talk about how big of a mistake it was for the LA Angels not to trade Shohei Ohtani before the trade deadline, how difficult it must be being a Mets fan, and how the Houston Astros were the only team to make aggressive moves to play baseball in October.

(34:40) - This, That, and the Third: LSU starts a new injury report as a gambling workaround, Taylor Swift gives her staff tour bonuses, and an 8-year-old boy gets bit by a spider to become Spider-Man.

Wilder Wednesdays — Charlotte on Nathaniel Hackett addressing Sean Payton in metaphors, Carli Lloyd’s USWNT criticism, poor PAC-12 & Iowa St Gambling Accusations Aug 02, 2023
    Show notes

HAPPY HUMP DAY! Gojo, Golic, and Charlotte start today off with…

(02:20) - What Gojo is hoping is the last installment of the Sean Payton, Nathaniel Hackett saga after hearing the Jets OC responds to the Broncos head coach using the infamous ‘glass house’ metaphor. Charlotte says she loves the prolonged drama and coach speak while Golic thinks Hackett was right saying Payton “broke code” slandering him publicly but was surprised Hackett said as much as he did. Gojo says Nathaniel Hackett went to make sure Sean Payton feels as bad as he should for criticizing him.

(12:54) - After Former USWNT star Carli Lloyd doubles down on her criticism of the current USWNT, Charlotte tells us how she feels about the National Team’s World Cup struggles: “It’s too early to say this team’s not passionate or not trying.” Ms. Wilder says she wasn’t a fan of Carli Lloyd making the current USWNT team’s lack of success about her. (18:30) After hearing Golic speak on talking heads wanting to see athletes sad after bad performances, Gojo reminds us that the US didn’t lose and do have something to celebrate.

(20:30) - Gojo, Charlotte, and Golic react to reports that the PAC-12 has reached a TV streaming deal with Apple that would require a subscription-based revenue model. “This conference is done being a Power 5.” Golic uses grade school door-to-door magazine subscription drives as an analogy to describe how bad this deal would be for the conference. (26:20) Charlotte reminds us that the name of the game is exposure for CFB and streaming services may not deliver enough eyes to the PAC-12.

(33:00) - The gang shares their thoughts on Iowa State’s gambling accusations that suggest their starting QB, Hunter Dekkers, has been gambling on his team consistently. With so little money being placed on each bet, Gojo and Golic are confused at the decision-making of not only the QB who’s putting his eligibility in jeopardy but also his parents for allegedly helping.

(41:15) - This, That, and the Third: Justin Verlander traded back to the Astros as the Mets implode, a debate over how many five-year-olds it’d take to tackle Derrick Henry and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Guesthouse on AirBnB sparks the question: which celebrity’s guesthouse would you want to spend one night in?

Aaron Rodgers claps back at Sean Payton, Jim Irsay insults Jonathan Taylor, USWNT Survive & Advance, Notre Dame resigns w/ Under Armour and Coin Boys 4 Lyfe Aug 01, 2023
    Show notes

Gojo and his Dad, Mike Golic Sr, are back from The Joel Cornette Foundation Charity Golf Outing in Cincinnati, Ohio (01:50) where Gojo was on a team with a former collegiate golfer and still didn’t place in the scramble. After chatting about the humbling experience of 'athleting' with superior athletes, the Golics recap…

(05:55) - USWNT surviving Group Play after tying with Portugal early this morning. Gojo admits he slept through this World Cup match, but Golic witnessed US chances to advance saved by a pole early in stoppage time: “Portugal was the better team on the pitch … they have not looked like the number one team in the world.”

(12:01) - Gojo and Golic respond to the comments from Aaron Rodgers as he defends his friend and coach Nathaniel Hackett after Sean Payton slandered him late last week. Gojo says “Rodgers got it right here” from a leadership standpoint, especially starting over with a new franchise. Although Hackett is scheduled to speak later today, Golic said we should expect him to add fuel to this fire. (16:30) Gojo explains the amount of pressure Nathaniel Hackett is under: “The blame will end up on him, not Rodgers if things go south in New York.”

(19:39) - The guys react to reports that Colts running back Johnathan Taylor met with owner Jim Irsay requesting a from Indianapolis. To which the infamous Colts owner said: “no” and then was quoted saying things that Golic says: “You shouldn’t say out loud.” With rookie QB Anthony Richardson expected to play, Gojo mentions that this is a bad year for Irsay to alienate his running back going into the season. (27:00) Both Gojo and Golic agree that Jim Irsay’s “no one’s going to miss us” comments were right, but Irsay insulted Taylor.

(33:53) - Gojo asks his Dad, is this the end of the PAC-12?

(40:29) - This, That, and the Third: Notre Dame resigns with Under Armour, Damar Hamlin has his first full padded practice, and Coin Boys live and die by the coin.

Joe Burrow’s Calf Injury, Golic hates Sean Payton slandering Nathaniel Hackett & the Jets, PJ Fleck: Head Coach or Cult Leader, and Shohei Ohtani’s Doubleheader Jul 28, 2023
    Show notes

HAPPY FRI-YAY! Gojo and his Dad, Mike Golic Sr, are concerned for Cincinnati Bengals fans today after …

(00:40) - Joe Burrow suffered a non-contact calf strain during practice on Thursday and was carted off the field. Golic says injuries are unavoidable in football, it’s just a question of how bad it is. The 9-year NFL vet talks about the year he and his Philadelphia Eagles thought they were Super Bowl bound until their starting QB, Randall Cunningham blew out his knee in Week 1.

(03:09) - The Miami Dolphins take a big blow on the injury front after DB Jalen Ramsey suffered a knee injury that requires surgery that could keep him out 6-8 weeks. As much as that sucks for Miami, Gojo mentions Cincinnati fans should be more concerned because it hits differently when a franchise QB is injured. (06:40) Golic remembers the first year of free agency in the NFL when his season with the Dolphins was ruined after future HoFer Dan Marino went down: “We went from the best record in football to missing the playoffs.” The Golics wrap on Joe Burrow talking about the long-lasting impact of soft tissue injuries.

(12:05) - Gojo and Golic react to Sean Payton ripping Nathaniel Hackett and the former Broncos staff for how they handled Russell Wilson’s first year in Denver. Golic says he “HATES this stuff!” He goes on to say there must be a reason behind Sean Payton slandering a fellow member of the NFL coach fraternity. (16:09) Gojo on the other hand says genuine, public beef between NFL coaches is hard to find so he is enjoying every second of it.

(19:42) - In that same Sean Payton interview, the Broncos Head Coach takes jabs at the New York Jets and how they’ve promoted Aaron Rodgers’ arrival. With Hackett now serving as the current OC for the Jets, Gojo hopes to see this storyline make an appearance on this season of Hard Knocks. (22:30) Golic explains why bulletin board material doesn’t mean a damn thing after kickoff in Week 5 when the Jets face off against the Broncos.

(28:20) - The Golics respond to allegations out of Minnesota calling Head Coach PJ Fleck a “cult leader.” Gojo says everything he’s read from this report feels like 90% of college football programs. Golic thinks this is a result of a football program mirroring the personality of their head coach.

(40:16) - This, That, and the Third: Shohei Ohtani pitches a shutout then hits two home runs in a doubleheader, Joey Votto has a beautiful rant aimed at Mad Dog, and Golic Sr picks 3 of his most prized possessions.

    Show notes

From their hotel in New York City, Gojo and his Dad, Mike Golic Sr, recap last night’s evening where Golic small-talked with Peyton Manning and Roger Goodell while Gojo and Stugotz ate snacks.

(03:40) - Gojo talks about seeing the NFL’s Commissioner as he finished up at the urinals in the Men’s restroom. This promotes a conversation about bathroom buddies: “It’s one of the things I miss most about playing college football.”

(05:50) - The guys react to the USWNT tying on the World Cup stage last night after Lindsey Horan saves the USA from a loss with a header in the 2nd half. Our hero Horan scores her goal after an altercation with her FC teammate. (10:30) Golic says USWNT has plenty to celebrate after facing the toughest opinion on their schedule.

(12:10) - After Aaron Rodgers reworks his deal with the Jets to take $35M, GoJo and Golic talk about QBs taking less to help their team build winning rosters.

(14:30) - Staying in New York City, RB Free Agent Dalvin Cook reportedly visited NYC today to meet with the Jets. Golic says they can’t let Cook out of the building without signing him.

(16:30) - GoJo reacts to Colorado’s plans to leave the PAC-12 for the BIG 12 after a new TV deal wasn’t finalized. The duo discusses the impact of Deion Sanders taking his Buffalo boys out of the PAC-12.

(20:00) - 2x Super Bowl Champion and Former Notre Dame great Justin Tuck joins the show with Stugotz for a God Bless Football LIVE show. Stugotz talks about why he became a Jets fan and asks Justin Tuck if he and other Long Island natives can have their moment in the sun now that their franchise has a real QB. (22:00) Justin Tuck talks about the in-city rivalry between his New York Giants and the New York Jets before speaking on his hate for the Cowboys: “I don’t like people from Dallas.” (28:10) Tuck talks about why he’s thankful Isaiah Foskey broke his sack record at Notre Dame and (34:40) Stugotz plays a game of “Tuck Yeah or Tuck No” where Justin touches on peeing in pools, slapping the play like a champion sign, and whose the better QB: Peyton or Eli.

(40:32) - This, That, and the Third: Shoei Ohtani off the trading block after Angels playoff push, UFO Whistleblower’s testimony, and Travis Kelce shooting his shot at Taylor Swift.

Wilder Wednesdays — Charlotte on Jaylen Brown’s Supermax deal in Boston, Messi’s storybook start in Miami, Herbert & NFL’s big money contracts, and her new show ‘Oddball’ Jul 26, 2023
    Show notes

LIVE from New York, Gojo is joined by Charlotte Wilder in her city to complain about the issues with coastal elite living. Then…

(02:20) - Our good friend Charlotte Wilder introduces her new daily basketball show ‘Oddball’ with Amin Elhassan on DraftKings Network. Charlotte calls her new home for takes: “the weirdest basketball show you’ve probably ever seen.” (05:15) After launching their new show during Summer League in Las Vegas, Charlotte tells how ‘The Sphere’ ignited her love for large vessels.

(07:20) - Charlotte explains why she’s trepidatious about the Celtics signing Jaylen Brown to a 5-yr extension worth up to $303.7M but feels inspired that Boston is attempting to let Brown and Tatum lead them to a championship. (12:02) Gojo talks about how championships have spoiled Boston fans.

(13:45) - After another amazing showing for Messi, Gojo asks Charlotte if the Argentine striker can sustain this level of play for Inter Miami. “He is the savior,” Charlotte says Messi changes every environment he finds himself in before Gojo slanders Miami in the nicest way possible.

(19:39) - Gojo is sad for running backs as players at other positions see huge paydays around the NFL. Charlotte says it’s inhumane that RBs like Saquon carry the bulk of his team’s offense and sees a merge of the team’s earnings. (22:22) Gojo explains how the game's evolution led us to this point with running backs. But he thinks a couple of rookie running back contracts paying off for their team could change things in the future.

(29:20) - While talking about Justin Herbert’s $262.5M contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers, Charlotte and Mike take a deeper look at the money elite QBs are making around the league (33:35) before talking about Patrick Mahomes’ money and the payday the reigning Super Bowl MVP deserves.

Marshall Newhouse on Saquon Barkley's 1-yr deal with the Giants, NFL Conditioning Tests, Chris Jones' Leverage and Sleeper NFL teams + an update on Bronny James Jul 25, 2023
    Show notes

Gojo is joined by his Dad, Mike Golic Sr, to talk about…

(00:30) - Saquon Barkley agrees to the New York Giants' terms for a one-year deal worth up to $11 million. Gojo talks about how the contract is not a win for the Giants’ RB or other NFL running backs: “The world is not going to get better for Saquon on the other side of this.” Golic explains why he’s surprised by the Saquon signing: “he gets $11M, but this is a win for the New York Giants.” (08:35) Gojo talks about how this deal impacts Josh Jacobs and what the Raiders do with their star running back.

(12:05) - With Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs in mind, the Golics discuss potential trade possibilities for NFL teams, like the Buffalo Bills, who think they are a running back away from making a playoff run. Gojo talks about how Josh McDaniels needs to do everything he can to make the Raiders work this season.

(19:40) - As training camps begin this week, Golic remembers his war stories with NFL conditioning tests: “I was stunned by how dum the test was … something that has nothing to do with football.”

(24:43) - Super Bowl Champ, Marshall Newhouse joins the show! After being forced to relive his conditioning test days, (27:16) Marshall tells us what he’d say to Saquon Barkley if he was in the New York Giants’ lockerroom: “Bro that sucks, I’m sorry…” Marshall shares his thoughts on the future of the running back position, the leverage Chris Jones has during his holdout with the Chiefs and his experience NFL with holdouts. (35:28) Marshall leaves us explaining why the Atlanta Falcons and the Detroit Lions are his two Sleeper Teams this NFL season.

(39:18) - This, That, and the Third: An update on Bronny James who suffered cardiac arrest during practice at USC, Kylian Mbappe’s BILLION dollar offer, and FAMU’s punishment after locker room rap video goes viral.

Barbie is for Grown Folks in SEC Country, NFL Running Back Discourse, USWNT dominate, and Washington Football Team fans celebrate new ownership Jul 24, 2023
    Show notes

BOUNCING BACK FROM VACAY! Gojo and his Dad, Mike Golic Sr, work off the rust from last week’s vacation and prepare to be baptized by football season content. After discussing the bad food and beers consumed in Tahoe Gojo and Golic tackle…

(05:18) - The possibility of Dallas Cowboys Guard, future Pro Football HoFer, IRL friend, and former Notre Dame teammate Zack Martin sitting out training camp in Oxnard hoping for a new contract with the Cowboys. If Martin does sit out, he’d be joining KC Chiefs star DT Chris Jones who’s holding out for a new deal.

(09:04) - “How did you like 'Barbie' the movie?” Gojo and Golic review Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in “Barbie,” the biggest box office film of 2023. Gojo says the film is funny, existential, and most definitely for grown folks while his Dad says people need to enjoy the film and stop obsessing over the politics. (12:05) Gojo talks about Barbie's chokehold on SEC country, and apparently, Chris Nolan’s Oppenheimer was v horny.

(16:20) - Speaking of weekend watches: The USWNT take care of business against Vietnam on their quest to win back-to-back-to-back World Cup Trophies. Gojo explains why he thinks World Cup soccer is the most fun sporting event to watch in a bar.

(19:40) - Gojo and Golic discuss the problem running backs are having to seek their value in today’s NFL market after star RBs had a Zoom meeting last weekend to find solutions. The Golics touch on fully guaranteed contracts and the history of injuries sustained for RBs after getting max money. (26:05) Gojo talks about how the game has shifted away from running backs, and Golic explains why other NFL players feel bad for RBs but won’t be taking a pay cut in their honor.

(39:18) - This, That, and the Third: Washington Commanders fans await wholesale changes under new ownership, Draymond Green and Jordan Poole saga continue with Poole’s Dad’s tweets, and Michael Phelps’ last standing individual World Record was broken.
