Achieve Your Goals Jan 18, 2013
    Show notes

Busy Mom’s Survival Guide Podcast Episode 037.
Many people regularly set goals. Yet they are often frustrated when they don’t reach them. It is important to set goals the right way as well as doing some work (after setting your goal) to help yourself successfully achieve them. During this podcast episode, I talk about some of my current goals, how many of them I have, and what I do to make sure that I achieve them.

    Podcast room

    Listener Questions

Charlene: What tools do you use to note that the goal is completed?

    Laurel: Homeschool goals?

Abigail: What do you do to motivate you to continue towards a goal when it gets hard?

Kara: How do you teach goal setting to your children?

Rebecca: How do you know how high to set the bar? I am doing some goal setting myself, but I don’t want to set a goal that I can’t achieve… but I don’t want to set the bar too low because then there will not be a challenge.

    Resources Mentioned

Here is a link to the episode about my control journal that I reference in this podcast.

What about you? Are you good or bad about meeting the goals you’ve set for yourself? I’d love to hear what your goals are and how you’re going to make sure that they’re not just dreams, but something you can successfully accomplish.

Being Prepared To Leave Jan 11, 2013
    Show notes

Busy Mom’s Survival Guide Podcast Episode 036.
Jim and I recently made a trip without the children to attend the New Media Expo in Las Vegas. During this podcast episode we discuss our trip, some of the things we learned, and the great time we had with the friends we’ve made.

    NMX

We also talk about what it is like to leave all of our children and the things we do to prepare to leave. This trip we made sure that our will was updated and that all of our information was accessible if it was needed.

Do you have things prepared in case you leave and don’t return? It’s not something we like to think about, but it’s something we need to take care of regardless. Please share if you’re prepared and I’d love to hear what you do with your important paperwork. I’m trying to figure out where to store mine and whether or not I should just get a safety deposit box.

Here is a link to the podcast episode about setting up a control journal that I reference.

Thanks for listening! Please join me next week as I discuss achieving your goals.

Stay in the Moment Jan 05, 2013
    Show notes

Busy Mom’s Survival Guide Podcast Episode 035.
In today’s world it is so easy to concentrate on what we need to do, that we lose sight of what we are currently doing. When this happens, we tend to let time go by and life happen and we don’t enjoy today.

During this podcast episode I talk about why it is important that we not find our joy in checking items off our to-do list. Instead we need to stay in the moment and enjoy the actual living of our to-do lists.

Thanks for listening! Join me next week as I talk about being prepared to leave.

The Rewards of Occasional Spontaneity Dec 28, 2012
    Show notes

Busy Mom’s Survival Guide Podcast Episode 034.
I find that the best way to (joyfully) survive being a busy Mom is to be very organized with my life, my family, my homeschool, and my business. But I don’t ever want our lives to be boring and routine. So I always make a point to occasionally be spontaneous.

    church pyramid-001

I’ve decided there are five reasons it is important to allow some spontaneity into my life.

    1. It keeps things fun and makes me happy.
    2. It keeps the children guessing.
    3. It changes the tone of the day.
    4. It takes advantage of opportunities that arise.
    5. It builds memories.

During this podcast episode I discuss these reasons as well as share some of the ways that I’m spontaneous. Emery also joins me and shares his feelings about spontaneity in our family.

Do you ever make time for spontaneity? I’d love to hear about any spontaneous things you’ve done with your family and what the results were. I’m always looking for new ideas!

Sometimes It’s Best To Say “No” Dec 20, 2012
    Show notes

Busy Mom’s Survival Guide Podcast Episode 033.
Busy moms always have plenty to do. And yet, it seems like we’re always asked to do more. Sometimes it’s people outside of our family who are doing the asking. Sometimes it’s our spouses or our children. But quite often, it’s ourselves who are doing the asking. We hold ourselves up to certain expectations and find ourselves unable to let anyone (including ourselves) down and so we say yes and do things that we shouldn’t be doing.

    The Doctors

I’ve learned how important it is to say “no”. It is important for me and it is important for my children. Because when you say “no”, it frees you up to say “yes” to other things.

But just because it is important, that doesn’t make it easy. During this podcast episode I discuss the fact that I have learned to say “no” even to some important things in my life. Indigo joins me and we discuss some fun family things and how she feels about Mom telling her “no”.

For me, I have the most difficulty when I have to say no to my Goat Milk Stuff customers. I find myself wanting to give them everything they ask for. I’d love to hear in what situations you most struggle with saying “no”.

Busy Mom’s Survival Guide Episode 028
Keeping a family of ten and Goat Milk Stuff running smoothly requires a lot of organization. One of the things that I rely upon to help keep me organized is my Central Notebook or Control Journal. It contains everything I need in a central location.

    Organization

During this podcast episode, I discuss in detail how my control journal is organized, in the hope that something I do can help you to organize your life better. I talk about how I use all the following sections:

    1. Goals/Tasks
    2. Calendar
    3. House Chores
    4. Shopping
    5. Holidays
    6. Contact & Reference Info
    7. Special Stuff
Do you struggle with organization? or does it come naturally to you?
