Leadership: Are You a Goose Or a Buffalo? Mar 29, 2023

In leadership, are you a goose or a buffalo?

The American Buffalo gathers in a herd and is solely dependent upon one leader. Wherever the leader goes, the herd will follow. Without the leader’s instructions and directions, they cannot function either as a group or individually. The herd’s entire destiny and survival are determined by one.

Goose, on the other hand, not only flies in a fascinating, high-precision formation. But every single bird within the group knows exactly where they’re headed. They are also ready to take over the leadership position at any given moment.

The ultimate level of leadership is producing other leaders. Where if you were removed from the situation/company/anything then other leaders would be able to step in and people would continue to grow and prosper.

The 3 levels of leadership are as follows:

1. Leading yourself

2. Leading others

3. Empowering and raising OTHER leaders

The best leaders raise leaders than go even bigger than them! All the best mentors in the world want to see a mentee surpass them.

So what we can all work to do is become that level 3 leader and raise other leaders in the world, including our own children!

True Leadership: Authenticity & Vulnerability Mar 15, 2023

The BEST leaders in the world are both authentic and vulnerable. Today Wade interviews Sandy on her starting her business and how authenticity and vulnerability played a role in that.

Authenticity may be the most refreshing thing in the world. Don't you love and respect someone who is just so authentically them where they know exactly who they are on the inside and that is who they are on the outside? We are attracted to that as a species. On the other hand, people who are inauthentic to who they are, are very obvious to spot and we don't respect it as a human species.

Vulnerability, on the surface may seem like weakness, but really it is true strength.

Authenticity and vulnerability are two important qualities for effective leadership. Authenticity means being true to oneself and one's values, while vulnerability means being open and honest about one's weaknesses and shortcomings. Leaders who exhibit these traits are able to build trust and rapport with their teams, and create a culture of openness and transparency.

Authenticity is essential for leaders to gain the respect and trust of their team. It involves being honest about one's strengths and weaknesses, and being consistent in one's behavior and decision-making. When leaders are authentic, they are able to communicate their vision and values clearly, and inspire their team to work towards a common goal. Authentic leaders are also able to foster a culture of accountability, where team members take responsibility for their actions and hold themselves and others accountable for their results.

Vulnerability is another important quality for leaders. It involves being open and honest about one's emotions, fears, and doubts. When leaders are vulnerable, they show that they are human and relatable, and they create a culture of empathy and understanding. Vulnerability also helps leaders to build trust with their team members, as they demonstrate that they are willing to be transparent and honest, even when it is difficult.

In conclusion, authenticity and vulnerability are essential qualities for effective leadership. Leaders who exhibit these traits are able to build trust and rapport with their team, and create a culture of openness and transparency. By being authentic and vulnerable, leaders can inspire their team to work towards a common goal, foster a culture of accountability, and create a workplace where people feel valued and supported.

Get Smart With Your Money February Feb 01, 2023

In February we are getting SMART with our money. We are getting aligned as a couple on our personal finances, and we're excited about it. It's something we've been honestly avoiding for some time.

Let me know if this resonates with you...for some reason we do not enjoy diving into our personal finances. We love investing, we love making money, we love spending money, but historically we haven't loved being aware of all our spending and being mindful of where all our money goes.

So this month we're getting smart with our money. A few things we're doing:

1) We watched a Netflix documentary called Get Smart With Our Money. Highly recommend watching it.

2) We are doing weekly Family Finance Friday meetings every Friday morning to get aligned on our finances, track our weekly spending and see how we're progressing towards our financial goals.

3) We're doing a SMART SPEND February. Not a no spend, which felt low vibe for us, but a smart spend. Meaning we will pay for our living expenses, the necessities, food, rent, etc. Beyond that we'll have a discretionary account for the week, say $250 to spend on things that aren't needed like going out to dinner. That number should be relative to you and your family.

4) We're working on our money mindset to become NEUTRAL with money. Not to desire it, need it, seek it, be scared of it, feel anxious about it, but know that its a means of exchange, we can go make it, we can spend it, invest it, do whatever with it.
