Stay ConnectedGen X, This is Why is a podcast that re-examines the sometimes bizarre and often scarring media from our shared childhood. Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal enemies, are your hosts. Our first stop is Walnut Grove as we take a fresh look at our favorite frontier family (as if we can name another), the Ingalls. There is some seriously weird sh*t in this show that answers a lot of questions…

A "lady speaker" comes to Walnut Grove, upsetting all of the men, especially Nels whose wife is still not falling into line. Charles, acting as the town's moral compass, does the absolute wrong thing and drives Caroline away. Willie's balls cause a lot of problems, and Percival believes women should have rights, just not the right to eat. We discuss the Oscar's slap and wonder aloud why anyone would get married.

We pick up with Adam studying for the LSATs and being just a real d*ck to everyone, including Mary. When he travels to Minneapolis to take the exam, he meets an all-too-convenient rich benefactor who saves him time and time again from himself. He goes into fever mode and narrowly escapes another ice bath. Meanwhile, Mary 1.0 shows up in Walnut Grove and Nels is a garbage human.

Jessica Chastain plays the iconic preacher's wife, Tammy Faye Bakker, in this 2021 biopic. We, like most people in the country, remembered Tammy Faye as much more complicit in her husband's crimes than she actually was, when in reality she was kind of cool. We demand a network find a way to give us Tammy's Teens, Yoko Ono makes an appearance, and we rage against religion...a lot.

Adam and Hester Sue can’t mind their own business and end up almost getting killed after they rummage through Garvey’s stuff. This accident results in Adam regaining his sight and absolutely losing his mind. He runs around a meadow in slow motion, takes up croquet, and quits teaching to avoid grading a stack of papers. Mary is beside herself and reverts to Mary 2.0. Meanwhile, Jennie takes a trip to Pizza Hut and Amye rages against Florida.

Manly and Charles have a race to the bottom as they disagree on the fastest route to Sleepy Eye. Both men attempt to cheat, and we spend way too much time talking about Manly’s load. Mary finally gets invited to dinner, and Jennie got robbed. We also discuss Love Is Blind and Don Balluck.

Amye sits down with Pamela Bob, writer, actor, and director of the award-winning short comedy series, Livin' on a Prairie.
"We are introduced to Pamela, a woman in her late 30s, socially awkward, misunderstood and stuck in a world that is going on without her. Her only escape to solace, safety, nurturing and love is also the same crutch that prevents her from connecting to the rest of the world: Little House on the Prairie. She is an uber fan of the un-coolest TV show of the 1970s-early 1980s, and yet its simple messages of community, family and unconditional love is her drug of choice. This is a show about being in recovery and rejoining life. "

Manly morphs into a giant man-baby when Laura has to spend time trying to build a career. After several fights, Laura finds evidence he's cheating and goes bananas-attacking people in the street. Little Joe, I mean Charles, tries desperately to install a window pane. We visit Amye's laundry corner, which is as exciting as it sounds, and we fondly remember the Fonz in his leather jacket water skiing with some sharks.

Garvey and his son head to a new town to start over and try to forget that Mary killed their beloved Alice. Things take a left turn when some brokedown mall cop shows up and tries to offer some extra security. Some hooligans are terrorizing the town, and everyone has gun fever. What could go wrong? Amye shows up with an index card, Jennie is flipping her pages, and we contemplate living at work.

Laura and Manly hit a rough patch as his impulse purchase of a dirt field comes back to haunt him. Harve is an absolute monster who spends weeks telling Eliza Jane how great she is-only to marry someone else and disappear. For some reason, Mary and Adam’s anniversary brings the whole town together and in the grossest miscarriage of justice ever, Laura Ingalls and Almanzo Wilder, the classic lovers, get a quickie wedding ceremony in a blind school by a broke-down preacher. Oh, and Jennie can’t even see Carrie anymore. So something positive comes out of all of this.

Manly buys the farm. In other news, Eliza Jane is a 12-year-old forty-something whose diary rivals that of Lady Chatterly's, Laura gets a bomb teaching job that she immediately has to reject or she's not allowed to be married, and Nellie has some big news! Could Axl Rose have replaced Dean Butler as Manly? Jennie comes for weathermen, and there are four things worse than sharing a room with Carrie.
