Celtics Beat Nuggets, Robert Williams and Aaron Nesmith Shine, Trade Ideas Feb 17, 2021
    Show notes

The Celtics emphasized ball movement for most of their win against the Nuggets, where they led throughout and closed defensively in the second half. Strong minutes from Aaron Nesmith and Robert Williams off the bench with JaysonTatum built double-digit leads, and Jaylen Brown played masterfully into the fourth on the way to 27 points. Kemba Walker "is on a good two-game streak," Stevens said. "I thought we handled their runs well and stayed the course throughout the whole game ... the ball was popping ... we rewarded guys for running ... and cutting more than we have in the last few weeks." Nikola Jokic "was a lot," but Boston made it hard on him on his way to 43 points.

Devin Booker, Suns Dominate Celtics Defense as Kemba Struggles Again Feb 08, 2021
    Show notes

Brad Stevens’ reliable options shrunk and rotations expanded deeper into this road trip. Starting three bigs turned into 30 Carsen Edwards minutes against the Clippers. Grant Williams emerged deep off the bench to close a game Daniel Theis and Tristan Thompson started against the Warriors.

Stevens goes off feel as much as numbers. What he sees in practice and short stints during games matters. “Garbage time” is as valuable as other sequences, and he’s seen Edwards improve since he returned from COVID-19 to play in scrimmages with Tatum and Boston’s coaches at Auerbach Center to get back in shape after their three-week layoffs. Edwards played so well in them that the Celtics pulled him and made him a shoo-in for minutes in recent weeks.

Edwards scored 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting in Boston’s upset over the Clippers, so on Sunday he started for the first time in the NBA. It didn’t last long.

Devin Booker looked for the small guards on five straight possessions and the Suns scored on each. Phoenix started the night hitting 8-of-10 within the restricted area as a struggling C’s defense got peppered by the Suns’ perimeter players with jumpers and finishes inside. Mikal Bridges started 4-of-5, Booker hit 5-of-8 in the first half and dished five assists to teammates. He finished with 18 points and a critical shot with 43 seconds left that halted Boston’s comeback to within three points in the final minute. Phoenix won 100-91.

Nick Gelso, Josue Pavon, Jimmy Toscano and Bobby Manning talked about the Celtics loss and Brad Stevens as Boston fell to 12-10.

Payton Pritchard shined in his return from knee injury, while Carsen Edwards helped keep Boston alive when Kawhi Leonard and company pushed ahead by 16 points early. Edwards scored 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting. #Celtics #BostonCeltics #Clippers

Kings Beat Celtics, Tristan Thompson Is Back and Harrison Barnes for TPE? Feb 04, 2021
    Show notes

Jeff Teague struggled in his chance to breakout as the lead point guard of the Celtics with Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart and Payton Pritchard out. Teague shot 1-of-6 and De'Aaron Fox walked through him like a turnstile in the fourth quarter. The other options were slim, but Grant Williams and Teague struggle as part of the closing Boston lineup that gave up the lead to Sacramento on big shots by Tyrese Haliburton, Fox and three point play by Richaun Holmes when Daniel Theis slid to help Teague on

Tristan Thompson added 17 points and 10 rebounds in his best game with the Celtics, while potential TPE target Harrison Barnes poured 24 points on Boston.

Celtics beat Warriors, Kemba Walker up and down, Grant Williams is back Feb 03, 2021
    Show notes

The Celtics received 19 points and a strong closing effort from Kemba Walker through mid-game struggles as his non-linear return from his knee injury continues with flashes of his former greatness next to brutal struggles at the rim and shooting slumps. His effort proved critical in countering Steph Curry's 35 points on a night where Boston melted down defensively in the opening minutes before clamping down late. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown shined, but ball movement and offensive rhythm looked like a problem in the first night without Marcus Smart due to his injury. Did a win over the Warriors impress you?

John Zannis and Bobby Manning debate. The Celtics beat the Warriors 111-107 to begin their seven game west coast trip without Marcus Smart, with Payton Pritchard possibly back tomorrow.

Spurs Beat the Celtics, Marcus Smart misses final second shot Jan 28, 2021
    Show notes

Hours after Marcus Smart proclaimed he'll continue to shoot as he always has, he received an open corner three to tie the game for the Celtics against the Spurs and missed. He finished 6-of-15 as the Boston starters reunited from last playoffs struggled to find cohesion as Daniel Theis struggled with fouls and Kemba Walker shot poorly throughout. No stretch resonated worse than allowing Spurs to make 10 straight baskets, including on two botched in-bounds passes before halftime on a 27-9 run.
