NBA Playoffs: Boston Celtics vs ATL Hawks - Game 6: Full Length Player/Coach Interviews Apr 29, 2016
    Show notes

The Atlanta Hawks blew away the Boston Celtics to close out the 6 game series with a 104-92 win. The Hawks had another massive run in in the third quarter that gave them enough cushion to withstand the Celtics' big fourth quarter comeback from a comfortable distance.

BOSTON – With health out the window and shooting nowhere to be found, the Celtics needed to outwork and outsmart the Hawks for 48 minutes in Game 6. They didn’t come close.

The Celtics suffered a slow death in the Hawks’ vice grip as their season ended with another blowout loss.

No matter who Stevens threw out there with Isaiah Thomas, the Hawks swarmed and suffocated each possession during the middle quarters.

Al Horford was perfect in every which way, shooting 7-for-8 from the field and finished with 15 points and a +25 differential in 25 minutes. Every second Horford was on the floor, the Hawks’ advantage grew.

The Hawks had yet another third quarter blitzkrieg, scoring 39 points after starting the half with a 14-5 run. Every time the Celtics fought back, the Hawks raced the lead back up to 20.

The Hawks’ lead ballooned to 28 in the early fourth quarter after a Dennis Schroder cutting layup. But Jae Crowder responded with a three on the other end and kickstarted a 22-6 run until he fouled out. With three minutes left.

But with such a big deficit, they needed to be perfect. The Hawks kept getting to open weak side shooters, but couldn’t close it out somehow. The Hawks’ phenomenal execution never waned, but the shots that gave them the lead were no longer falling.

It all ended when Isaiah Thomas hit a floating finger roll to make it a 10 point game. The Hawks responded with a stampeding fast break that ended with a Paul Millsap three-point play to put it to bed. The Hawks began fouling intentionally as the Celtics wasted away at the free throw line.

Despite Tyler Zeller's surprise contributions on both ends during the fourth quarter comeback, the massive gulf between the two teams did not leave wiggle room for any misses or fouls. The Celtics got close to single-digits, but committed an unfortunate foul or missed a crucial shot whenever the door looked ajar.

What was an even matchup at the outset of the series could never be fair game with Avery Bradley and Kelly Olynyk unavailable – or in Olynyk’s case unusable – while Jae Crowder played hurt and Jared Sullinger played in cement shoes.

Yet it was the Celtics’ struggles to withstand the Hawk’s tidal wave runs that did them in. The Celtics were an unstoppable force trying to pick apart the Hawks' well-lubricated machine. But with bodies down and inferior skill, the Celtics will have to return next year with a better army built around Thomas.

NBA Playoffs: Boston Celtics vs ATL Hawks - Game 3: Full Length Player/Coach Interviews Apr 23, 2016
    Show notes

Isaiah Thomas capitalized on the floor stretching from new starter Jonas Jerebko as the Celtics blew out the Hawks early, survived their third quarter run and put them away for the 11-103 win.

BOSTON - Brad Stevens finally unleashed the Swedish Larry Bird Friday and was rewarded with sweet Jonas glory.

Jerebko scored 11 points, tied a game-high with 12 rebounds and dished out 4 assists to help lead the Celtics to a vital 111-103 Game 3 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

With Jerebko and Turner in the starting lineup, the Celtics offense was rejuvenated. Turner scored 16 points with seven assists while running the offense for most of the night. They constantly posted him up on a smaller guard and whipped the ball to an open shooter as the Hawks collapsed.

Isaiah Thomas scored a career-high 42 points while being the center of attention to some rough play and a pair of flagrant fouls. There were four flagrant foul reviews in Game 3, with one being overturned.

The Celtics had a massive run in the first quarter and led 37-20 at the quarter break. But the Hawks ramped up their defense in the second before stomping out the Celtics' 17-point third quarter lead.

But Isaiah Thomas had an answer for the Hawks, as he continued to get to the line whenever the Celtics needed to stop the Hawks' momentum. It culminated with Thomas sniping a dagger from 30-feet out in an unsuspecting Jeff Teague's grill...READ FULL REPORT

042: Boston Celtics vs Miami Heat: Full Length Player/Coach Interviews Apr 14, 2016
    Show notes

The Boston Celtics pulled off an NBA-season high 26-point stunning comeback as their 40-10 run in the second half buried the Heat, yet clinched the 3 seed for Miami. The Celtics won 98-88 and will see the Atlanta Hawks in the first round.

BOSTON - The Celtics went back to the locker room after a Jae Crowder layup cut the Heat's halftime lead to 24. Crowder immediately responded out of the half with a three.

When Joe Johnson answered back with one of his own, it looked like the Celtics were in for a long, submissive end to their regular season.

Johnson would score the Heat's next basket, eight minutes later. It ended the Celtics 20-0 run, but couldn't stop the incoming tide. The Celtics run peaked at 40-10 before the Heat woke up and battled to the end 98-88 Boston victory.

The Celtics outscored the Heat 25-5 in the third quarter, which was the second time this season in the NBA that a team beat their opponent by at least 20 points in a quarter while holding them to 5 points or less.

"Oh wow. Second time in the NBA? That's impressive. That's impressive," Crowder told CLNS Radio upon the news.

On the night that the team gathered legends like Bill Russell, Bill Walton, Kevin McHale and more to honor the '66, '76 and '86, Stevens couldn't believe the team's effort in the first half.

"We were all embarrassed by the start," Stevens said. "We respect them more than anyone could."

So when Stevens brought the team back into the locker room, they had a frank conversation about how the next half, and really the next month would look.

"I didn't say anything otherworldly," he said. "We just sat there and talked in this tenor and said who do you want to be. There's guys in this building that hung banners.

"Who do you want to be? How do you want to look at yourselves? This was a collective thing. It had nothing to do with me. This had to do with who these guys have been all season. We got away from it on Monday and a little bit today."

The Celtics played came into the locker room fuming. With tensions exploding, Stevens' calm presence set the team back on track.

"Brad came in cool, calm and collected, took a seat in the middle of the locker room and just explained to us a little scenario he had gone through," Crowder said. "He said this time, we need to make a choice: Come together or we won't. I think it definitely showed in the second half."

"Brad sat down in the chair and he talked real quiet," Isaiah Thomas said. "You could tell he was upset, but he was basically like, ‘Figure it out. You guys are playing real selfish, not just offensively, but the defensive scheme is real selfish.'

"Everybody is hugging their guy and we need to play as one and get ourselves together and get ourselves out of whatever funk we’re in basically, and we did that," Thomas continued. "We kept looking at each other telling ourselves we’re gonna win this game, we’re gonna make a comeback and..READ FULL REPORT
