In this edition of the Business Mentor Podcast, Jay talks to one of the best out there, the man who’s made it his mission to conquer the biggest obstacles in his path and never look back.

With several multi-million dollar ventures in his portfolio of incredible successes, and thriving on a determination to push himself through any challenge, who better to mentor you in business than this week’s guest, the peerless Mr Rafael Badziag.

It’s an incredible conversation that covers everything from the importance of your team, and how to level-up through them, to the three types of people in the world today, and how to make sure that you have a chance of being in the top-tier...

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Everyone in business is out to succeed. What sets you apart is the drive you have, and the team that you build. It’s in the way you enhance and inspire the people who are making it happen alongside you.
    • The ones who truly succeed are the ones who are not looking to emulate their competitors, but surpass them. It’s better to have a billionaire mind than a millionaire mind.
    • Rafael’s companies have seen huge revenue boosts and game-changing improvements from simply adopting more effective means of communication between the team and clients, a technique he learned from the billionaires he studied and aided.
    • Not everyone can be a billionaire, because not everyone is willing to pay the price in order to do so. There is always a price to pay for success.
    • Being happy and being successful in business are two different goals. It’s difficult to strike the work-life balance if you’re out be a billionaire. You have to sacrifice too much.
    • Many people cannot see the vast gulf between a millionaire and a billionaire. For someone earning £500k a year, you can become a millionaire in two years. That same person would need to have been born at the same time as Jesus Christ in order to become a billionaire.
    • If you set your sights on becoming a billionaire, then you are not aiming to earn billions of dollars. You are aiming to add billions of dollars of value to yourself or the product you are presenting.
    • Rafael divides the world into three categories:
      • Drifters - those who let themselves be taken by the current, and who never over-achieve.
      • Millionaires - the basic, standard level of those who succeed. It’s surprisingly easy, and normal, to be a millionaire.
      • Billionaires - Those who excel. Those who adjust their mindset and realise that in order to truly overachieve, they need to add value.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘I was a millionaire, but it didn’t feel like success’

‘I’d rather have a billionaire mind than a millionaire mind'

‘Billionaires are operating on the back of decades at the highest level of performance’

‘If you want to be happy in life, then this isn;t the right way to go’

’This is the difference in velocity of how fast you build value’

    ABOUT THE GUEST

Rafael Badziag is a Germany based global entrepreneur, top TED speaker, best-selling author and angel investor. He is a valued expert in psychology of entrepreneurship, specializing in self-made billionaires and was featured on NBC, ABC, CBS, BBC and FOX networks as well as in Forbes, CNBC, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and other leading national newspapers and TV networks in over 30 countries around the world.

In the late nineties he built his first multi-million dollar business Raddiscount.de pioneering e-commerce in Europe. It was the first bike online-shop in Germany, which he developed into an established business in the German speaking market. He then expanded his ventures into an array of internet-based services and assets in several countries.

His passion is learning his limits and crossing them as well as learning the limitations of the people around him and helping them to overcome those.

Rafael is founder of the NoLimits project, where he fights against the limitations of his body, mind and soul. You may find him sprinting on a treacherous mountain trail, running a 111 km ultra race across the Sahara Desert, or dancing a tango on the floor of a fancy Milonga. On his English blog, NoLimits.co, he describes his extreme experiences and inspires others to follow his example, to also undertake challenges and to reach seemingly unachievable goals. The motto of this project is given by T.S. Eliot’s words: “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” The mission here is to inspire the readers to live their lives fully with passion and zeal, to make them leave their limits behind them, so they can rise above the boundaries of mediocrity and experience their full potential, exceptional success and deep satisfaction in their lives.

His expeditions and remarkable journeys have taken him several times around the world, from the ice desert of Antarctica through the hottest deserts on the planet to the Peaks of the Seven Summits. He has visited all seven continents.

Rafael has given some of the most popular TED talks in history that have been watched over 3 million times.

The book “Ready, Set, Go!” that he has co-authored with Brian Tracy, the world’s greatest business teacher and personal performance trainer, and some other top experts became an Amazon bestseller in multiple categories and has earned Rafael the Quilly Award.

Recently, Rafael has been traveling the world and meeting the world’s most successful entrepreneurs, all of them self-made billionaires, from various regions, industries, cultures, religions and age groups. He managed to open the most inaccessible doors and got access to some of the wealthiest people on the planet. By conducting face-to-face interviews with them he was able to obtain first hand information on their methods and mindsets. He reveals their success secrets in his book “The Billion Dollar Secret” and the corresponding YouTube channel. The book reached #1 Amazon Best Seller status in several countries including USA, UK, Canada, Brasil and Germany and became a global best seller.

Some people call him The Napoleon Hill of the 21st Century, others – The Billionaire Magnet.

His writing and business activities have a truly global scope.

Rafael is a member of the National Association of Experts, Writers & Speakers. He was recently inducted into the National Academy of Best-Selling Authors. He is a valued contributor to CNBC, Business Insider and Entrepreneur.com

    ABOUT THE HOST

Jay Dhillon is a serial entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist based in the UK with a proven track record of growing businesses from start-up to success- and helping others do the same. From humble beginnings, Jay grew his first business from 0-500 employees and three locations, racking up sales of over £30 million – all without any investment other than a small amount of savings. The business went on to acquire major clients such as Landrover, Jaguar, Toyota and New Look, to name a few.

Its huge success inevitably brought about outside interest, and at the age of 33, Jay eventually sold the company to a London investment firm in Doyen Resources. Today, Jay owns several businesses in different sectors and helps entrepreneurs achieve success.

A calling to give back and help others led to Jay being chosen for the highly-coveted role as a Prince’s Trust mentor, where his achievements were marked by a personal invitation to Buckingham Palace to meet Prince Charles.

After helping several young entrepreneurs to success as a mentor for the Trust, Jay’s burning desire to bring his wisdom and knowledge to a wider audience ultimately triggered the concept of The Business Mentor Podcast.

Jay feels that anyone can achieve success in business with the right advice and mentoring and is now sharing his knowledge with his growing audience via his podcast.

In the UK alone, 95% of business fail within the first five years, and Jay’s aim is to reduce that number.

Backed with the hard-earned knowledge and experience from his time in business, The Business Mentor Podcast will share Jay’s personal business lessons as well those of other successful entrepreneur guests who share their wisdom and secrets on the show.

If you’re looking for a mentor or looking to get a mentor then this episode will help you out as Jay explains how to find a suitable mentor for you, whether a mentor is for you and how you can decide whether a mentor’s for you or not.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Find a mentor that’s already been there and done it. Someone who has already learned and experience the lessons. 10 years’ experience is a good amount of experience within business for a mentor.
    • A mentor needs to have a good energy and enthusiasm about them so if you’re looking to become a mentor, you can have all of the experience but you need to have a good energy about you.
    • Are the mentors that you’re looking at specialised in the right area of business that you need? Do their experiences and lessons have any relevance to what you’re trying to do with your business?
    • Your mentor should have a great understanding, patience and want to with you so that you enjoy them mentoring you and you understand what they’re saying well.
    • Don’t have a mentor that just tells you ‘yes’ because that’s not how you’re going to improve. You need someone who’s going to tell you honestly what’s good and bad so you can learn from them.
    • You’ve got to have a great skillset in order to be a mentor. It’s all about learning the skills in order to be an effective mentor.

    BEST MOMENTS

    ’Do they break it down’

    ‘It’s really important they’re honest’

    ‘Do your diligence’

In the brand New Studio for the 'Business Mentor Podcast' Jay talks once again to Neville Wright, self-made millionaire, mentor and motivational speaker, about his story to date. Much has happened in the past year, including the sale of his business.

Neville joins Jay today for a wise, warm and witty conversation about the highs and lows in his recent business dealings, and the wisdom he’s gained along the way, all delivered in Neville’s uniquely appealing style.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Opportunities come in all shapes and sizes. You need to remember to keep your eyes open and look for them whenever you can.
    • Security doesn’t come from merely owning a property, or having money. Security is a state of mind. It’s the feeling of safety that you achieve through believing in yourself and what you can do.
    • Don’t ever take advantage of people. It should always be a win-win situation for both of you. We’re all trying to do the best we can.
    • One of the most common mistakes people make when their business is doing well, is that they fail to look to the future to see how they will fare. In the blink of an eye, your business model can be replaced or obsolete, so judge each offer well, and make sure your future is secure.
    • Neville was shown the folly of regret by his own father, whose business ventures resulted in remorse, when he turned down many lucrative offers in favour of treading the same, familiar path. Life could well have been very different if he had taken the opportunities as they’d arisen.
    • Burn your bridges - Having a trade to “fall back on” isn’t a good thing. If anything, it stops you from taking too many chances. Putting yourself out there completely forces you to think creatively.
    • Patience and humility are most definitely the virtues that saw Neville and Kiddicare thrive. Doors were slammed in their face at the outset, but by remaining polite, professional and tenacious, they achieved their greatest success.
    • Each day of your business’s operation is an opportunity for change. If it doesn’t change, even in an incremental way, from one day to the next, then you’re stagnating.
    • Your core values must always remain at the heart of your business. In Neville’s case, the main tenet was to always ensure that he and his wife were working together. When this value was threatened, he drew back.
    • Neville has used his dyslexia as a tool to drive him forward. When people put you down, it can be used as a positive, as it forces you to be more creative in terms of equalling your playing field

    BEST MOMENTS

    • ’ I like to keep it real’
    • ‘Use every minute of the day’
    • ’Together we were stronger’
    • ’I will never say “I should have”'
    • ‘You emulate the people you admire’
    • ‘You have to innovate'

Battle Ready or Business Savvy? Feb 07, 2020
    Show notes

Jay has a great philosophy about how to get things done when you face any challenging situation in business. The flight and fight mode of thinking is a powerful tool that Jay shares with his mentees and it has proven successful across many different challenges.

During the day as entrepreneurs, you are constantly thinking and it is these thought processes that put you in either flight or fight mode.

Fight mode is not positive and will not enable you to find the solution you need to move forward but if you get yourself into flight mode you are being business savvy and will be able to think creatively, find a solution and move forward.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • In any situation, you have to make a conscious choice about whether you respond in a fight or flight mode.
    • Fight mode is when you are tense – looking at problems, thinking that the world is against me. It’s my fault, their fault you don’t take responsibility
    • Flight mode is when you frame your thinking in a more positive way – e.g. If the client hasn’t paid, why haven’t they paid there must be a reason, can we sort out a payment plan.
    • If you are in fight mode you are personally getting angry and are not thinking forward to a possible solution
    • If you are in fight mode you are not going to get to the problem and you cannot solve a problem unless you can think creatively about it.
    • If something negative happens you have to get into flight mode to be able to work on it and solve the problem so that you can move forward.
    • In business, you are going to get challenges every day and so you need to be thinking about flight mode every day so that you are in the right frame of mind to solve the problems
    • If something big happens it’s even more important that you get into flight mode so that you can think creatively to find a solution.
    • If you have a situation – remember to ask yourself how will it best serve me if I go into fight mode? - blaming myself and blaming others?
    • Choosing to go into flight mode means looking at the opportunities and what changes and steps you can take to make this better, and get through it successfully.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘When you look back you will see it was not as big as it seemed when you were facing it initially’

‘At the time it seems massive but if you keep working through it and keep doing things, things will change’

‘All creative thinking comes when you are in flight mode’

9 Million Followers & 3 Billion Views – Top Tips From Social Media Entrepreneur Luca Gallone Jan 24, 2020
    Show notes

Jay is chatting with Luca Gallone, global celebrity magician who has 2 million followers on Instagram, and 5 ½ million followers on TikTok.

He has built an audience by putting out incredible content and over the last year has had around 3 billion views for his mind-blowing videos.

When so many people see your content, you start seeing other opportunities and after one of his videos went viral he was invited to appear on the Ellen show, the biggest talk show in America which has led to more opportunities globally.

Luca and Jay focus on the way different social media platforms can be used to build a following and Luca has some great advice on how to create viral content.

You don’t have to know exactly how your audience will build, start creating content and if you believe in your vision things will start coming to you.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • My way of growing has mostly been based on creating viral content that is shared with millions of views this then brings followers from the content itself.
    • It was a case of trying lots of different things, then working to make sure everything was the best it could be.
    • At all times you need to be thinking about how your content can work for different audiences on different platforms.
    • If you commit fully and work hard things will work out.
    • Even if you don’t have a huge following you can create a bit of celebrity status and become a celebrity in your niche.
    • Instagram is in a transition phase, all platforms ‘age up’ and young people don’t want to be on Instagram if their grandad is on it so they are moving over to TikTok.
    • If you want to grow your followers make sure your video is fitted for the platform it is posted on.
    • Look at the trends, TikTok is built on trends and the power of these trends is enormous.

    Luca Gallone website

    ABOUT THE HOST

Jay Dhillon is a serial entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist based in the UK with a proven track record of growing businesses from start-up to success- and helping others do the same. From humble beginnings, Jay grew his first business from 0 to 500 employees and three locations, racking up sales of over £30 million – all without any investment other than a small amount of savings.

A calling to give back and help others led to Jay being chosen for the highly coveted role as a Prince’s Trust mentor, where his achievements were marked by a personal invitation to Buckingham Palace to meet Prince Charles.

How to Gain Clients by Building Your Reputation Jan 17, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode Jay explains the importance of reputation and how it can have such a big impact on your business, including the number of clients you get. He also discusses how you can use the same methods as him to increase the number of clients you have.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Reputation is probably one of the biggest things you’ll do in your business model.
    • Someone can have 100 positive reviews but we’re naturally attracted to the negative ones. 9 times out of 10 people will focus on the negative rather than the positive.
    • Always encourage reviews with everyone because if you don’t and you get 1 negative review then that will really affect you.
    • You could send an email or text message to all of your clients asking to give you a review.
    • Build a good foundation by building up your reviews, this is huge in America too. When people Google your business you need to have good reviews in order for people to click on your business.
    • Work on your reputation and then your marketing.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Reputation is based on the reviews of your business’.

‘For every bad review you nee at least 25 good ones.’

    ‘Catch the bed reviews too’

How to Know Your Worth And Overcome Self Doubt Dec 27, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode, Jay recaps on why being a bull in your market is so important and how it can help you to find your worth. Also covered in this episode is how you can find your worth if you're feeling self doubt.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • If you've put the time and effort into knowing your field then you should be able to charge for your knowledge in that.
    • Ask yourself the question of whether you've got the put the work in, got the knowledge and got the story and if you have then you should be confident in your worth.
    • As you build it's important to know your worth. No one else will know this other than you.
    • You've got to know that you're very good at what you do. If you don't think that you're not worth your story and you 'fake it until you make it' then it's likely it's not going to feel right charging people for your knowledge.
    • If you're not confident in your worth then find out if you're lacking in knowledge or experience then you're like to have a battle with yourself.
    • Once you know your value then don't doubt yourself or let your mind wonder, don't sabotage your self by doubting your worth.
    • Don't rely on 1 or 2 clients, talk to lot of people.

    BEST MOMENTS

'You've got to get yourself back onto it'

    'Be confident in your worth'

    'Know your value'
