Fuel Her Awesome — Mental Health, Aging, Nutrition & Healing Your Relationship With Food: gut-brain connection, emotional eating, women’s hormone health, food freedom, empowered eating

Most women don’t have a nutrition problem. They have a relationship problem — with food, with their bodies, and with themselves. And until someone addresses that, no meal plan is going to stick.

Welcome to Fuel Her Awesome — the podcast where mental health and nutrition finally meet. I’m Jess Brown, registered dietitian, certified eating disorder consultant, certified sports dietitian and your guide to understanding why you eat the way you do — and how to change it without shame, restriction, or starting over.

Each episode goes beyond the food to explore the root causes most providers miss: the gut-brain connection driving your mood, the stress hormones shaping your cravings, the nutrient gaps nobody tested for — and what you can actually do about it. Science-backed, judgment-free, and built for the woman who is done treating symptoms and ready to heal the root.

This isn’t another wellness podcast. It’s the one that finally connects the dots.

    Subscribe for weekly episodes on:

→ The gut-brain axis and how your microbiome affects your mental health

→ How cortisol, blood sugar, and stress hormones drive your eating behavior

→ The nutrient depletions linked to depression, anxiety, and ADHD that nobody tested for

→ What your body is actually communicating — and how to listen

→ Science that’s real, actionable, and completely judgment-free

You’re not broken. You’re just missing the full picture. Let’s build it together.

39 || Perfectionism and All-or-Nothing Thinking Got You Stuck? How to Break Free and Crush Your Goals! Interview with Dr. Erica Castleberry, clinical Psychologist Aug 23, 2021
    Show notes

Perfectionism and all-or-nothing have you stuck in a state of paralysis??

Ladies today's episode is EVERYTHING! I am sitting down with clinical psychologist, therapist, and a personal friend of mine, Dr. Erica Castleberry. We are diving into an awesome conversation and about some of the major obstacles that present when it comes to healing our relationships with our bodies and moving towards healthy exercise:

    PERFECTIONISM AND ALL-OR-NOTHING THINKING.

Shame and all-or-nothing thinking are traps that we all too often find ourselves in. Dr. Castleberry goes over the difference between shame and guilt, where they may stem from, and strategies to overcome the shame cycle. We also dive into all or nothing thinking and the paralysis or perfectionism burnout that comes with it. And of course we tie it all back to how you choose your meals and move your body.

Today's episode will no doubt help you identify where you might be stuck and give you some insight on how to get out and start (sustainably) crushing your goals.

    Cheers sisters and happy thinking,

    Jess

37 || From Eating Disorder to Awesome: CEO and activist, Julie Allen's story of trauma to triumph and how she is actively fighting diet culture. Aug 09, 2021
    Show notes

From Eating Disorder to Awesome: Julie Allen's story of trauma, triumph, and how she came to be founder and CEO of an organizaion fighting diet culture and making women everywhere feel beautiful.

Julie Allen, an author and eating disorder awareness activist, is the CEO of Mary Rose NW Boutique and founder of the Mary Rose Foundation. Julie started Mary Rose NW Boutique because she recognized the need for a clothing shop that focused on body acceptance, self-love, and helping all bodies feel beautiful and confident in their clothes. With a portion of the proceeds going to the Mary Rose Foundation, the boutique won “Best Online Boutique in Oregon” in 2020. The three pillars of her boutique include sustainability, inclusion, and social justice. With a bachelor’s in psychology and a background in physical therapy, Julie truly understands how the mind affects the body and vice versa. She struggled with anorexia and bulimia for 15 years and as a result, made it her mission to empower people to love and embrace themselves wholeheartedly. The Mary Rose Foundation is a non-profit designed to help people who are struggling with the financial burden of eating disorder treatment and works on the prevention side as well with their educational outreach programs. Julie's message is simply one of strength, courage, self-compassion, and most of all, hope. In her downtime, she enjoys lifting weights, going for walks, unplugging, and focusing on her family.

To find out more about donating to the Mary Rose Foundation click here or follow her on Instagram.

36 || It took her 36 years to start living in her body. Pascale Duroseau's journey from binge eating disorder and body hate to health and body love. Aug 02, 2021
    Show notes

Nothing is more powerful than a testimony of triumph.

I am so grateful for today's episode featuring a childhood friend. The Pascale I knew in elementary school was fun loving, hilarious, and a ray of light. Over the years, our culture eclipsed so much of her beauty... telling her she wasn't enough. Living in a large, black body comes with many challenges in our thin, white body-obsessed culture. Pascale spent over 20 years struggling with binge eating disorder and feeling detached from her body because she believed something was wrong with it.

In today's episode we are getting a first hand glimpse at Pascale's journey, how she found herself at rock bottom, and then fought to overcome binge eating disorder. She made her way back to that beautiful, bright, elementary girl's spirit and learned to love herself again!

Be sure to connect with Pascale on IG @pascalegabrielle and let her know how amazing she is! I hope her story of triumph inspires yours.

    Cheers and happy eating,
