Fuel Her Awesome — Mental Health, Aging, Nutrition & Healing Your Relationship With Food: gut-brain connection, emotional eating, women’s hormone health, food freedom, empowered eating

Most women don’t have a nutrition problem. They have a relationship problem — with food, with their bodies, and with themselves. And until someone addresses that, no meal plan is going to stick.

Welcome to Fuel Her Awesome — the podcast where mental health and nutrition finally meet. I’m Jess Brown, registered dietitian, certified eating disorder consultant, certified sports dietitian and your guide to understanding why you eat the way you do — and how to change it without shame, restriction, or starting over.

Each episode goes beyond the food to explore the root causes most providers miss: the gut-brain connection driving your mood, the stress hormones shaping your cravings, the nutrient gaps nobody tested for — and what you can actually do about it. Science-backed, judgment-free, and built for the woman who is done treating symptoms and ready to heal the root.

This isn’t another wellness podcast. It’s the one that finally connects the dots.

    Subscribe for weekly episodes on:

→ The gut-brain axis and how your microbiome affects your mental health

→ How cortisol, blood sugar, and stress hormones drive your eating behavior

→ The nutrient depletions linked to depression, anxiety, and ADHD that nobody tested for

→ What your body is actually communicating — and how to listen

→ Science that’s real, actionable, and completely judgment-free

You’re not broken. You’re just missing the full picture. Let’s build it together.

Do THIS 1 Thing to Move From Surviving to Thriving This Holiday Season || Holiday Health Survival Guide Episode #2 Dec 15, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to episode number 2 of the Holiday Survival Guide! Today is all about movement.

How we can engage in productive movement that's not just productive in the health sense..but productive in the mental health sense. How can we participate in movement that alleviates some of the stress we might we feel over this holiday season? Letting go of some of the rules and rigidity that we place around exercise can open up the door to use movement as tool to increase your productivity, mental health, and deal with the stresses of this holiday season!

During the holidays, we tend to have one of two approaches towards movement, either we get in this all or nothing space, where we have all these rules around it and if we can't do it exactly how we want it...then we just don’t do it! Or we do the opposite, we cling so tightly to the rigidity and rules that it overshadows our values and cuts into time we would have normally spent celebrating the holidays. This episode is all about finding a balance to it all, one step at a time!

    Cheers, and happy eating!

Why Being Thinner Isn‘t Your Ticket To Health. Interview with Model Turned Registered Dietitian, Paula Doebrich Dec 06, 2021
    Show notes

    I love a powerful testimony.

On today's episode I am talking with Paula Deoebrich from Happea Nutrition, a private nutrition practice in New York City. Before starting her journey towards becoming a dietitian, she worked as a model all around the world. This experience allowed her to live in many places around the globe, but with that also came a lot of pressure to look a certain way. Up until her early twenties, she was a chronic dieter and always looking for the hottest diet-trends. Today, these experiences give her insight to better support others as she helps clients avoid the misery she went through. She believes, because she lived it, that being healthy does not mean shrinking yourself and true health is only possible when you enjoy your lifestyle.

To connect with Paula find her on insta @happea_nutrition or check out her website.

Cheers and happy (guilt free) eating!

MOTIVATION MAKEOVER: Two Ways To Overcome Resistance To Change And Take Your Success To The Next Level Nov 29, 2021
    Show notes

When you set a goal- it means you have to make a change.

To grow, we must move past what is comfortable.

    Anyone else get stuck here?

Normally, we resist change because we sense an impending loss of control and uncertainty about the "what ifs" of the future. These "what ifs" can be positive, or negative. Typically, our mind gravitates toward the negative scenarios as a built in protective system. This fear is real. They even have a name for the fear of change: Metathesiophobia.

In today's episode Kim Payne, LPCC, and now monthly regular on the Fuel Her Awesome Podcast, is diving into why we resist change and how to overcome this resistance. To learn more about working with Kim reach out to her at kimpaynetherapy@gmail.com.

This episode is all about the rise of the resistance!*

    Cheers, and happy thinking,

Is Intuitive Eating Eating Whatever You Want? 3 Steps To Move Toward Empowered Eating Without Overindulging. Nov 10, 2021
    Show notes

    Meet Jane.

Jane has been an avid dieter for years. Weight watchers, keto, macros, myfitnesspal… you name it she has done it! Jane is also a superwoman: mom, successful career woman, and leader. I met Jane after she came to the realization that she wanted to lose weight, but didn’t have the energy and/or time to put into it like she used to. She would try and then other priorities would take precedence. She tried and “failed” more times that she wanted to admit. Jane came to me because she didn’t have the energy to fight with food and her body anymore, and at the same time she wanted to take care of her body because health and being present for her family was super important to her.

So how did Jane make peace with food? How did Jane let go of her good and bad food list without going crazy and eating ALL. THE. THINGS?!

In today’s episode I am walking you though 3 steps to move toward empowered and intuitive eating without over indulging. It is the perfect time to start making peace with food as we officially enter holiday season.

So excited to be in your ear today. Cheers, and happy eating!

Welcome to the Fuel Her Awesome Podcast with Jessika Brown, MS, RD, CEDRD, CSSD Nov 09, 2021
    Show notes

Hey Awesome! Yeah, you! I know... You're ready to stop falling into diet culture traps and finally put together a realistic plan on how to boost your energy and find food freedom! You feel stuck because you can’t quite kick the chocolate habit. The whole body love thing isn’t quite getting the job done… Or maybe you’re at an impasse because you push it in the gym but can’t quite figure out how and what to eat? How many times have you googled “best diet” and found that the latest trend failed you?

Hey girl, I’m Jess, registered dietitian, wife, mama, and total science and nutrition research junkie. I too used to be stuck in this cycle of insecurity and never feeling like my body was good enough. Then I’ld try to fix it with food only to be right back where I started. I did some hard work, found food freedom, but was confused on how to get healthy and fit without falling back into diet culture crazy. I wished someone would have taught me the difference between discipline and obsession! I wanted to be the healthiest version of myself by balancing healthy eating with food freedom! Like how do I actually eat healthy, get fit, AND have donuts with my kids?

It wasn’t until I figured out this awesome balance of disciple and permission. The art of intentional eating with sprinkles of flexibility. The Empowered Eating Model was born. Here on the show we nix diet culture, while creating values-based health goals, we reconnect with how our body responds to food through biofeedback, and figure out a plan to get healthy and fit without sacrificing the most meaningful moments of life! Sustainability doesn't mean never eating your favorite foods again. #pizzaislife

We are here to finally feel not just comfortable, but confident in our body! I am so excited to fuel your awesome with empowered eating.

Are you ready to take your inner awesome to the next level? Grab a cup of coffee or lace up your running shoes, it's GO time, girl!

    Cheers, and happy eating,

    Jess
