Fragmented to Whole: Life Lessons from 12 Step Recovery

Tired of feeling fragmented and overwhelmed? Fragmented to Whole: Life Lessons from 12-Step Recovery is your guide to creating a life of wholeness, authenticity, and healthy boundaries. Join Barb Nangle, a boundaries  coach and speaker, as she shares raw and honest insights from her own journey and the principles of 12-step recovery. Discover how to set boundaries without guilt or shame, overcome people-pleasing tendencies, manage your emotions effectively, cultivate a stronger sense of self, and build healthier relationships. Barb’s approach is raw, honest, and sometimes a little bit (okay, a lot) sweary.

Barb doesn’t speak for or endorse any particular 12 step program of recovery. Though she’s a huge fan of 12 step recovery, and a member of two 12 step fellowships, she cannot speak for them. If you’re ready for real talk and practical tools for transformation, tune in! To learn more about Barb, go to https://higherpowercc.com/

You Don't Have to Believe Your Thoughts! | Episode 82 Nov 09, 2020

You don't have to believe the thoughts running through your head! This pertains to thoughts about yourself (like "I'm not enough") as well as thoughts about others and the world. If you're not choosing your thoughts *on purpose,* especially if they're negative - think again! You don't have to believe a thought just because it's in your head (even though it sounds like your voice!).

Something Came Up vs. Something Happened | Episode 81 Nov 02, 2020
    Show notes

When someone doesn't show up when expected, we might be tempted to think, "something happened!" This usually has a negative connotation, like they were in an accident. However, when we think, "something came up" it's neutral and not likely to send is into a tailspin of negativity and anxiety. You can purposely choose this "thought work" to bring you more peace and serenity.

Many of us come into recovery believing we're "terminally unique" or that we're "uniquely flawed." What we learn is that we're NOT terminally unique, and that there are many are many others like us. You are not alone, there are many others like you, and you DO belong.

The ability to believe in new possibilities is at the heart of our ability to change. Gaining a new perspective on our lives and our problems opens us up to new possibilities. The way we think about things is often the source of our difficulties, rather than the situations themselves. If you'd like to change things in your life, this episode will give you ideas for how to get new perspectives that lead to new possibilities.

Check out the “Feelings, Not Fixing” bundle of curated content.

This bundle is for people who struggle with emotional discomfort—especially those who avoid their own feelings or feel responsible for fixing others'. If you've been told you're too sensitive, or you learned to disconnect from your emotions to survive, this bundle helps you come back to yourself. It’s especially powerful for people-pleasers, over-givers, and anyone raised in a family where emotions were minimized or punished.

    Send us Fan Mail

If you are truly committed to changing your ways, this episode is for you! The process of changing our lives is what 12 step recovery is all about. In this episode, you'll learn a way of becoming "entirely ready" (not just "somewhat ready") to change your life. I'll walk you through a process to think through what you've been doing that's been creating drama in your life. We'll go through what these things have been doing FOR you and TO you, then what changed behavior would look like. This will help us overcome the obstacle thoughts our brain generates to block us from changing.

    Privacy vs Secrecy | Episode 74 Sep 15, 2020
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, I clear up the distinction between what's private and what's secret. Private matters have to do with setting healthy boundaries. Secrets have to do with hiding our shame. I use the example of personal finances to illustrate the difference between privacy and secrecy. This distinction is hard for people with unhealthy boundaries to understand. So if the distinction is difficult for you, you might need to work on your boundaries (and I can help!).

    Understanding Natural Consequences | Episode 73 Sep 07, 2020
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

The natural consequences of negative behavior are typically negative. However, many people buffer, block or filter the consequences of other's behavior by enabling them. Enabling is when we fix, solve, or make the consequences for someone's behavior go away. This episode will give you an understanding what natural consequences are, how they work and how to allow them.
